  • Always observe all relevant national regulations (e.g. occupational safety measures)

General safety warnings for power tools

  • Do not overload power tools. Only use power tools for their intended purpose. A suitable tool does the job better and, more importantly, more safely.
  • Check the on/off switch before each use. Using the tool with a damaged on/off switch hinders control of the tool and is therefore very dangerous.
  • Always remove the rechargeable battery when you
    • are adjusting the trimmer
    • storing the appliance
    • removing a blockage
    • feel unusual vibrations
    • or after contact with a foreign body (in this case, check the appliance for damage and, if necessary, have it repaired by a specialist)
  • Keep power tools out of the reach of children. Do not allow people who are unfamiliar with the appliance and/or have not read and understood these original operating instructions to use it. Power tools are very dangerous in the hands of inexperienced users.
  • Service the tool regularly and check for signs of damage, dirt, incorrect settings, wear and tear or other issues that may present a hazard. Ensure that damaged devices are repaired by a specialist before use. Poorly maintained tools often lead to accidents.
  • Use the tool and its accessories only for the specified purpose and in accordance with these original operating instructions. Also pay attention to the working conditions and the task that you plan to carry out. Improper use can lead to hazardous situations.
  • Only use accessories and attachments that are compatible with the slots on the device.
  • Never attempt to switch off safety mechanisms.
  • Switch the device off immediately if the drive becomes blocked.
  • Keep the handles and surfaces of the tool dry, clean and free of oil or lubricants. Slipping during operation leads to a loss of control and accidents.
  • Hold the tool firmly. A sudden stop of the drive transfers the kinetic energy to the tool itself. This may cause the tool to fall out of your hands – risk of injury!
  • Condensation may form when the product is brought from a cold room into a warm one (e.g. during transportation). This can damage the product! For this reason, allow the product to warm up to room temperature before using it or inserting the battery. This may take several hours.

Safety warnings for battery-powered tools

  • Only use batteries that are specifically designed for this power tool. Using other batteries might result in injury and/or fire hazards.
  • Observe the safety and handling instructions in the original operating instructions of the battery and its charging device.
  • Never leave the appliance unattended when it is connected to the battery. Remove the battery before moving away from the appliance.

Workstation safety

  • Keep your workstation clean. Keep the work area well lit. A disorganised workstation or poor lighting can cause accidents.
  • Keep children and other people away from the workstation! Distractions can cause accidents.
  • Never use the product next to or near flammable liquids or gases, air/gas mixtures (petrol vapours) or flammable solids/dust. Sparks may be generated when the product is used – risk of fire or explosion!

Specific safety instructions for hedge trimmers

  • Never hold the blade during operation. Risk of injury.
  • The blade continues to run for a short period after being switched off.
  • Never try to remove clippings from the blade or hold the material you are cutting during operation. Only remove jammed clippings when the device is switched off. Ignoring these instructions may lead to serious injuries.
  • Keep body parts away from the blade during operation.
  • Always hold the hedge trimmer by the insulated handles. The saw blade could come into contact with hidden power lines and energise the metal parts of the hedge trimmer. Danger of electric shock!
  • Do not hold or carry the appliance by these safety devices.
  • Do not cut any wet material with the appliance. Do not use it in the rain or leave it outdoors overnight.
  • Never switch the device on if there are foreign bodies in the blade.
  • Before putting the hedge trimmer down or placing it on a surface, wait until the drive has come to a complete standstill.
  • Before operation, make sure that all screw connections are tightened and that the hedge trimmer is in a safe general condition.
  • Remove any adjusting tools, e.g. spanners, before turning the appliance on. The tool could be thrown out of position when the appliance is switched on and cause injuries.
  • Always hold the hedge trimmer firmly with both hands. This enables safe and controlled operation.
  • Thoroughly check the hedge to be cut before performing any work and remove any wires, cables or any other foreign bodies.
  • Do not insert any objects into the ventilation slots. In addition, make sure that no clippings or other materials fall into the vents. This may present a fire hazard due to overheating.
  • Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Sharp cutting tools are less likely to get jammed and are easier to control.
  • Always attach the blade guard when storing or transporting the device or leaving it unattended.

Components and controls

Components and controls

  1. Cutting blade
  2. Hand protection
  3. Bow handle with safety switch
  4. Handle
  5. On/off switch
  6. Battery slot

Preparation

Always remove the battery before attempting any installation or adjustment work or changing accessories.
Inadvertent operation of the on/off switch (5) may cause injury.

Inserting/removing the battery

  • Slide the battery into the battery compartment (6) until it clicks into place.
  • To remove the battery, press the release button on the battery and pull it out of the battery slot (6).

Always remove the battery before storing the appliance or if you do not plan to use it for an extended period of time.

Operation

Always observe the safety information at the beginning of these operating instructions.

Before use, check the hedge trimmer for loose connection screws, firmly fixed adjustment devices and an intact blade.

Always hold the hedge trimmer with both hands on the handle (4) and on the bow handle with the safety switch (3).

Caution – the blade (1) continues to run for a short time after the trimmer has been switched off.

  • Remove the blade guard from the blade (1).
  • Press the safety switch on the bow handle (3) and switch on the hedge trimmer with the on/off switch (5).
  • Allow the hedge trimmer to get up to speed before starting your work and do not apply a load to the trimmer as soon as it is switched on.
  • Do not overload the hedge trimmer by cutting branches that are too big or by cutting too many branches at the same time. This also protects the tool and prevents an overload.
  • Move the hedge trimmer evenly in arching movements in front of your body over the area to be cut.
  • Hold the hedge trimmer so that the blade is at an angle of approx. 15° to the cutting surface.
  • The hedge trimmer cuts on both sides, which provides a high cutting power.
  • For a straight and uniform cut, it is advisable to use a guide. This enables, for example, the height of the hedge to be marked.
  • To switch off the hedge trimmer after operation or in the event of danger, simply release the on/off switch (5) or the safety switch on the bow handle (3).
  • Replace the blade guard after operation to prevent injuries caused by the blade.

Troubleshooting

No function, the appliance does not switch on:

  • The battery is depleted. Charge the battery using the corresponding charger.
  • The battery is not correctly inserted into the battery slot (6) on the appliance.

Cutting performance is poor:

  • The blade (1) is no longer sharp and should be sharpened by a specialist.
  • The battery is flat and should be recharged.

The blade (1) does not move:

  • Switch off the hedge trimmer immediately and remove the battery.
  • Check that there are no foreign bodies jammed in the blade (1).
  • If necessary, remove the foreign objects.

The hedge is not cut cleanly or the blade frequently gets stuck or becomes hot:

  • The blade (1) is worn or damaged and should be sharpened by a specialist.
  • The blade (1) is not sufficiently lubricated. Lubricate the blade (1) with oil.

Maintenance/cleaning/storage

Before cleaning or servicing the device, switch it off and remove the battery.

Under no circumstances should you service any of the components in the interior of the product, therefore never open/dismantle it. Repair and maintenance work (including opening the product) must be done by a technician or specialist repair centre.

Do not allow water or moisture to get inside the device.

Use a slightly damp cloth to clean the product. Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents or chemicals.
Improper cleaning agents can cause discolouration on the plastic surface. Never use scouring agents, alcohol, petrol, spirits or other similar liquids to clean the product.

Wear protective gloves during maintenance and cleaning work to prevent injury from sharp edges or the blade (1)

Maintenance

  • Check the blade (1) for wear and damage before and after each use.
  • If the blade (1) no longer cuts cleanly or gets caught on the material you are cutting, have the blade sharpened by a specialist.
  • After cleaning, apply maintenance oil or spray to the blade (1). This prevents corrosion and keeps the blade (1) moving smoothly.

Cleaning

  • Always clean the product immediately after use to prevent dust and dirt from settling.
  • Keep dust and dirt off the safety mechanisms, ventilation slots and the motor housing.
  • Remove dirt and foreign bodies from the blade with a brush.
  • To clean the motor housing, use a dry or slightly damp clean and lint-free cloth.
  • Thorough cleaning keeps the product in a usable condition and prolongs its lifespan. A good craftsman is careful with his tools!

Storage

  • When storing or not using the appliance, protect the blade (1) with the blade guard.
  • Store the appliance in a clean and dry place. Avoid frost.
  • Keep the device and especially the plastic parts away from substances such as brake fluid, petroleum, oil-containing substances and penetrating oil. These substances contain chemicals that can damage or destroy the plastic parts.
  • Fertilizers and other garden chemicals contain substances that can attack metals. For this reason, do not store the device close to such substances.
  • Store the device, the original operating instructions and the accessories in the original packaging. This ensures that you will always have all the necessary information and accessories at hand.

The vibration emission value stated in this manual was obtained using a standardised EN 62841 test procedure. The result can be used to compare vibration levels of different electrical tools. It can also be used to obtain a preliminary estimate of your exposure to vibrations.
The specified value indicates the vibration level when the tool is used for its intended purpose. The actual vibration level may differ from the specified value if the tool is used for other purposes, if other tools are used, or if the tool has not been serviced properly. These factors can considerably increase your exposure.
For an accurate estimate of your exposure, account for the times when the appliance is switched off or not in use. These factors can considerably reduce your exposure.
Take additional safety measures to protect the user against the effects of vibration, e.g.: Maintenance of electric tool and insertion tools, keeping your hands warm, organisation of work processes.
