Fitting on tiles is possible. Increase the anchoring length of the dowels by the thickness of the tiles.

Floor condition, floor clearance

The door opening and floor of the building must be prepared before fitting the sliding door.
After fitting the concrete floors, the slab edges may lift (curling). This does not constitute grounds for a complaint regarding the sliding door. In correctly fitted sliding doors, the floor clearance can change such that proper function is no longer guaranteed.
The floor of the sliding door FST-90 OD must not be flammable (class A1 according to EN 13501-1). On both sides of the door leaf surface, the fireproof area must be at least 150 mm.
With FST-30 OD, parquet or carpet flooring of class CFL-S1 according to EN 13501-1 can be used. With smoke-tight doors, the floor must be seamless. Carpet flooring is not permitted. Permissible floor clearance:

  • Fire door 15 mm ± 7 mm
  • Smoke-tight door 15 mm + 5 mm / – 7 mm

Doors with smoke protection function require a seamless floor or a stainless steel floor rail (not included in the standard delivery).

Higher fitting position for fire sliding doors

A higher fitting position means a one-sided downward offset of over 500 mm, e.g. in an installation shaft or offset hall levels. In this case, the door leaf edge must be at least 200 mm away from this offset. You have to fit a smoke-tight seal on 4 sides.

Door guiding variants (Figure 1a / 1c)
  • Normal guiding (A):
The weight box with closing weight is located on the inlet side. The weight box is combined with the guiding profile.

  • Normal and flush guiding with diverted closing weight (B), (C), (D):
The weight box with closing weight is located at the end of the track in the parking area. The cable is diverted.

Track fitting variants (Figure 2/5/6)
  • Wall fitting
For wall fitting, fit the track to the wall via support brackets.

  • Direct fitting to the ceiling
For ceiling fitting, fit the track right to the ceiling.

  • Suspended ceiling fitting
For suspended ceiling fitting, fit the track on the ceiling via a suspension bracket.

  • Fitting to the ceiling with a false lintel:
If there is no lintel in the opening area on-site, you can fit a cladded shaped tube construction to the ceiling (false lintel).

Fixing the door frame

ATTENTION
Fastening elements
High dynamic forces occur when the sliding door is opened and closed. Strong deformation may result in case of a fire.
▶ Fastening elements must be able to reliably absorb forces.
Fixing of the track, guiding profile, weight box and labyrinth profile is dependent on the construction subsurface.

  • Only use fasteners from Table 2 .5 or fasteners with similar properties.
Plastic dowels with Fischer FUR 10 steel screw or equivalent. Steel anchor MKT B 10 / 15 or equivalent. Heavy-duty anchor MKT SZ-S steel or equivalent. Anchoring bolt HUS3-H or similar.

  • Bolt the product through the wall using M 10 threaded rods and counterplates.

  • Use suitable fixing material for the construction subsurface when fitting the recess flaps.

Go through the work steps in order.

Suspending and joining the door elements

ATTENTION
Incorrect fitting of the door elements
Incorrect fitting of the door elements can lead to them being bent.
▶ Position the door elements vertically during fitting (see Figure 7 .3).
▶ Make sure that the door elements are firmly connected.
▶ Only tighten the tensioning nuts moderately (Figure 7 .9).

NOTE:
To prevent fires and increased temperatures from impairing the room partition, close the gaps between wall-side profiles and uneven wall surfaces.

  • Gaps ≤ 5 mm:
    – Have to be sealed with silicone / acrylic for version Sa and S200.

  • Gaps > 5 – 20 mm: (not uniform over the entire profile length)
    – Backfill with mineral wool of building materials class  A1.

Non-paintable parts

The following parts must not be painted:

  • Track / rollers
  • Electric magnet
  • Hydraulic track control
  • Travel limit damper
  • Floor buffer / roller
  • Cable and return pulleys
  • Toothed belt
  • Door closers
  • Lever handle / recessed lever handle / folding ring
Door lock (optional)

Optionally, the sliding door can be equipped with a curved bolt lock or a hook catch lock. The locks are already fitted at the factory. The lock plate height can be set in the guiding profile.

ATTENTION
Damage to the curved bolt lock
Due to closing the sliding door with the bolt extended.
▶ Do not lock the open sliding door.
▶ First adjust the closing speed of the door, then activate the lock system.

ATTENTION
Damage to the hook catch lock
Due to opening the locked sliding door.
▶ Do not open a locked sliding door.
▶ First adjust the closing speed of the door, then activate the lock system.
▶ The door leaf must not bounce back after closing.
▶ Adjust the travel limit dampers and closing speed.

Installing the hold-open device

The fitting of the hold-open device is determined by the fitting instructions and the manufacturer’s construction technique permit if applicable. Please inquire about any short-notice changes to the fitting conditions if necessary.

Installing the electric opening aid

Observe the manufacturer’s installation instructions.

Installing the optical / acoustic alarm system

Observe the manufacturer’s installation instructions.

Initial start-up

Before completing fitting, check that the sliding door is functioning properly. Check the following:

  • Track bearing surfaces may not be painted.
  • Fit the track in a horizontal position when switched off at the mains.
  • The door leaf must pass walls, lintels, and recesses without any contact.
  • The door must be able to close independently from any position.
  • The closing weight in the weight box must not make contact, block or hit the upper or lower end in any end-of-travel position of the sliding door.
  • The closing weight cable may not chafe at any point.
  • Return pulleys must be easy to move.
  • The closing speed of the door leaf must be between 0.08 m/s and 0.20 m/s. This results in a travel time of 5 –12 s/m (Figure 12).
  • Doors with smoke protection function require a seamless floor or a stainless steel floor rail (not included in the standard delivery).

Operation

CAUTION
Danger of injury due to door run
▶ Objects and persons, especially children, must not be in the door system’s range of motion or opening.
▶ When moving to the end-of-travel position and for doors with compensator function, use the grip handle, and not the recessed handle.
▶ For doors with compensator function, the door leaf is decoupled from the closing weight and can be moved very easily.
▶ Open the door slowly by hand.
▶ High opening speeds can cause damage to the floor buffer and the magnet support bracket.

Opening (without electric operator):
▶ Open the door leaf up to the stop / hold-open device by hand.

Hold-open device in the Door open position:
The hold-open device consists of a telescopic anchor and an electric magnet (24 V DC). The electric magnet is wired to a smoke detector.
The leaves are released by:

  • Push button
  • Smoke detector
  • Power failure

Closing (without electric operator):

ATTENTION
Exceeding the closing speed
Accelerating the closing speed may damage the closing device and the guiding profile.
▶ Do not exceed the set closing speed of the sliding door (for example by pushing manually). The steel cable will become trapped and damaged.
The correct closing of the door can then no longer be ensured. The steel cable may break.
The closing weight closes the released door leaf. The closing weight is connected to the labyrinth element via a pull cord.
▶ The closing speed of 0.08 m/s to 0.2 m/s or a travel time of 5 – 12 s/m can be set on the hydraulic track control (Figure 12).

Checking and maintenance

The owner or a person authorised by the owner is responsible for proper maintenance of the sliding door in the specified intervals.
▶ Functional parts, particularly safety components, may only be exchanged by specialists.
▶ Document maintenance. At least 1 × monthly:

  • General visual inspection of the door leaf and frame for damage / changes

  • Check the function of the fire alarm system (smoke detector), self-closing mechanism, hold-open device (electric magnet)

  • Check the seals (with the smoke-tight door version) for wear and correct position

  • Replace defective parts using original spare parts

  • Check closing speed

  • Lock plates for the locks / latches must be free of obstacles At least 1 × a year:

  • Check fixings:
    – Check the connections between the track, guiding profile, weight box and labyrinth profile to the wall
    – All fitting screws

  • Track:
    – Check for cleanliness and clean if necessary.
    – Apply a thin layer of multi-purpose grease (NLGI class 2, waterresistant, acid-free) to the track bearing surfaces.

  • Door travel properties:
    – Checking for perfect door travel
    – Check for unusual noises when opening and closing

  • Cable:
Check for wear, corrosion, chafing, creasing and wire tearing

  • Cable fastening:
Check the cable fastening on the door leaf and in the weight box

  • Cable pulleys and hydraulic track control:
    – Cable pulleys are easy to move
    – Function of the hydraulic track control

  • Floor guide roller:
Function of the floor guide roller

  • Information signs and ID plates:
Legibility of all information signs and ID plates

Fire sliding doors with wicket door
Check fastening and function:

  • Closers
  • Hinges
  • Lock

NOTE:
Shorten the maintenance intervals in case of excessive dust, dirt, moisture, chemicals, etc.
For fire sliding doors with opening aids (see Figure 16) you also have to set the closing speed of the door via the hydraulic track control in the weight box.
Set the track control on the opening aid to the minimum resistance.

Cleaning and care

Clean and oil all mechanical parts with suitable cleaning agents depending on the wear and as required, but at least 1 × a year.

ATTENTION
Unsuitable cleaning agents and incorrect cleaning
▶ Do not use any high-pressure cleaners, lyes and acids for cleaning.
▶ Do not rub hard.
▶ Never use abrasive sponges containing metal, steel wool or steel brushes, products that contain chloride, particularly hydrochloric acid products, bleach or silver polish.

Surface treatment

Galvanized surfaces
▶ Use clear water.
▶ Use warm water together with a neutral, non-abrasive cleaning agent (household detergent, pH value°7) if more heavily soiled.
When using mildly acidic, neutral or alkaline degreasing agents, immediately clean the surface with water. The residue-free removal of the degreasing agent prevents chemical damage to the zinc surface.

Removal of white rust from galvanized surfaces
▶ Remove white rust residue-free by using hard nylon brushes.
▶ Wire brushes are not suitable.
▶ Dark spots or tinting usually left after brushing adapt to the environment with time.
Contact a specialist painting company in case of repeated white rust formation.

Powder-coated surfaces
The surface of the door leaf and frame consists of a primer powder-coating based on epoxy resin and polyester.
▶ Clear water is sufficient for cleaning and care.
▶ Use warm water together with a neutral, non-abrasive cleaning agent (household detergent, pH value°7) if more heavily soiled.

Stainless steel surfaces
Conduct an initial passivation of the stainless steel door construction after completion of the construction work. Contact the supplier for further information.
When using stainless steel doors first make sure that the quality of the stainless steel is suitable for the application. Stainless steel may rust. To prevent corrosion, remove the protective film completely right after fitting, however no later than 3 months.
▶ Clean stainless steel surfaces with a damp cloth or shammy.
▶ For heavier soiling, use a common (non-ferrous) sponge.
▶ Remove fingerprints, as well as oily and greasy contamination, with a special cleaning agent (e.g. NIRO-Brillant).

Recommendations for material selection

Fire sliding doors can be optimised for their application by selecting the appropriate materials. Under certain conditions, stainless steel products may be affected by surface corrosion, pitting or crevice corrosion or stress corrosion cracking.
More information is available directly from the manufacturing factory.

Dismantling

Dismantle the door in accordance with these fitting instructions in the logically correct reverse order.

Disposal

Disassemble the sliding door into individual parts after dismantling. Recycle or dispose of the components in accordance with local official regulations.
