LUTRON 048811 Wireless Channel Best Practices
Clear Connect
Type X channel (e.g., Sunnata devices) best practices:
For most applications, Lutron recommends using the default Clear Connect channels for Sunnata devices, specifically, channel 25 for the first Sunnata device link, and channel 11 for the second Sunnata device link. In some applications, however, there may be a need to use alternate channels. If the location for installation is heavily congested with non-Lutron Wi-Fi devices, or if the system is in close proximity to additional RadioRA 3 systems, such as in a Multiple Dwelling Unit (MDU), use of alternate channels may be needed to reduce wireless signal interference. The top four channels that Lutron recommends for Sunnata Clear Connect – Type X (CCX) devices, in most situations, are 25, 11, 24, and 20, in that order. CCX link channels must be selected prior to beginning device activation. If devices have been activated, channel adjustment may require factory reset of devices.
Clear Connect
Type A channel (e.g., shades, Pico remotes, Maestro dimmers, and seeTouch controls) best practices:
In a two processor RadioRA 3 system, having Clear Connect – Type A (CCA) devices assigned to both processors will require two different wireless channels. For these applications, the first processor added to the system will have the same default channel (0x1A 433.6) as any wireless One Way Transmitters (OWTs) will have from the factory, such as Pico wireless controls and Radio Powr Savr occupancy sensors. For the second processor on the system, wireless devices will be on a different channel, and any OWTs added to this processor will require their channels to be set manually*. Lutron recommends that any battery powered shades, such as Sivoia QS Triathlon shades, be set to a separate channel than most non-shade controls to the maximum extent possible, in order to preserve shade battery life.
See Application Note #809 (P/N 048809) “RadioRA One-Way Transmitter Frequency Changing Procedures” on www.lutron.com for full instructions.
Key Takeaways
- Each RadioRA 3 processor will have its own Clear Connect – Type X and Clear Connect – Type A channels.
- Lutron default channels should normally be used for both Clear Connect – Type X and Clear Connect – Type A devices.
- Clear Connect – Type X channels 25, 11, 24, and 20 are preferred.
- Where possible, operate battery powered shades on their own Clear Connect – Type A channel for best battery life.
- Wireless channels should not be changed after device activation.
