APPLICATION
Opening the pressure cooker
Push the button for removing the lid towards the centre of the pressure cooker and move the upper lid counterclockwise (1). Open the pressure cooker and remove the lid. NEVER APPLY INAPPROPRIATE FORCE WHEN OPENING THE PRESSURE COOKER.
Inspecting the valves and the lock against accidental opening Operating valve
Press on the operating valve to make sure that it springs (2). lfthe operating valve does not spring, press on it, flush it under running water and make sure that it springs.
Safety valve
Press on the safety valve to make sure that it springs (3). If the safety valve does not spring, press on it, flush it under running water and make sure that it springs.
Notice: Make sure before each use that the nut of the cover of the operating valve and safety valve is tightened well; if not, tighten the nut using e.g. a coin.
Lock against accidental opening
Make sure that the nut of the lock against accidental opening is tightened
well; if not, tighten the nut. Check that the lock against accidental opening
moves freely up and down (4); if not, flush it under running water.
INSPECT THE VALVES BEFORE EACH USE. IF THE PROBLEM CANNOT BE RESOLVED USING
THE ABOVE PROCEDURES, DO NOT USE THE PRESSURE COOKER AND CONTACT A TESCOMA
SERVICE CENTRE.
Filling the pressure cooker
NEVER COOK WITHOUT WATER IN THE PRESSURE COOKER – THE MINIMUM AMOUNT OF WATER
IS 250ML. For safety reasons, the pressure cooker must be filled to a maximum
of 2/3 vessel capacity. With food
that tends to froth or swell when heated, such as soup, legumes and rice, fill
the pressure cooker to a maximum of 1/4 vessel capacity to avoid clogging of
the valves (5).
Closing the pressure cooker
Place the lid of the pressure cooker onto the vessel so that the “pressure
cooker closed” mark on the lid is aligned with the”pressure cooker closed”
mark on the lower handle (6).
Rotate the upper part of the handle clockwise until the two handles are
aligned and the button for removing the lid moves back to the original
position (7).
NEVER APPLY INAPPROPRIATE FORCE WHEN CLOSING THE PRESSURE COOKER.
Cooking in the pressure cooker
ALWAYS USE A HOTPLATE OR BURNER OF APPROPRIATE SIZE – THE DIAMETER OF THE HOTPLATE OR FLAME MUST BE THE SAME OR SMALLER THAN THE DIAMETER OF THE BOTTOM OF THE PRESSURE COOKER; FLAME MUST NEVER EXPAND OVER THE PERIMETER OFTHE BOTTOM. USE A DISPENSER NET OR HOTPLATE WHEN COOKING ON GAS.
- Place the correctly filled and closed pressure cooker onto heat set to the highest output.
- The lock against accidental opening will slip upwards after a short while. This means that pressure has built up inside and the pressure cooker is now secured against accidental opening.
- Steam will begin to escape from below the cover of the valves after a while. This means that operating pressure has built up inside the pressure cooker (8). Now reduce the heat output of the cooker so that only a small amount of steam escapes from the pressure cooker.
NOTICE
If a large amount of steam escapes from the pressure cooker atthe beginning of
the cooking process,
the pressure cooker has not been closed correctly. Remove the pressure cooker
from heat and check
whether it is closed well. Incorrect closing is usually due to the following:
- Incorrectly set lid – repeat the closing procedure.
- Incorrectly set silicone seal – set the silicone seal so that it is properly aligned with the inner rim of the lid.
- Damaged silicone seal – replace it with a new seal. A new seal is available at the TESCOMA Retail Centres.
Ending the cooking process, steam release and opening of the pressure
cooker
ALWAYS RELEASE STEAM ONLY AFTER REMOVING THE PRESSURE COOKER FROM THE
HEAT.
- After the time required for cooking has elapsed, remove the pressure cooker from heat even if the stove has already been switched off.
- Set the pressure cooker aside for several minutes to allow the temperature and pressure inside to drop and the lock against accidental opening to slip downwards. If you wantthe temperature and pressure in the pressure cooker to drop faster, press and hold the steam release button until the lock against accidental opening slips downwards.
- The pressure cooker can be safely opened after the lock against accidental opening has slipped downwards.
Notice: Always use protective equipment such as an oven mitt when releasing steam using the button. If the lock against accidental opening does not slip downwards spontaneously after setting the pressure cooker aside for some time and releasing steam using the button, place the pressure cooker into the sink and cool the lid down with a small amount of slowly running cold water until the lock against accidental opening slips downwards. Then open the pressure cooker and clean the operating valve and the safety valve.
NEVER COOL THE PRESSURE COOKER ABRUPTLY UNDER RUNNING WATER, DO NOT LET WATER RUN ONTO THE PLASTIC PARTS AND DO NOT IMMERSE THE ENTIRE PRESSURE COOKER IN WATER.
Useful hint
Switch the heat offin advance before the end of cooking to make use of the heat retaining properties of the three-layer sandwich bottom. Thanks to the three-layer sandwich bottom, the accumulated heat energy is transferred into the pressure cooker even after the heat has been switched off, which helps economise on energy in cooking. The vessel of the pressure cooker can also be used without the lid as a traditional deep pot for cooking on the stove.
SAFETY CUT-OUTS
Operating valve
The operating valve continuously releases excess steam during the cooking
process and drives out all steam from the pressure cooker at the end of
cooking.
Safety valve
The safety valve operates as a safety cut-out activated when the operating valve becomes clogged. If steam begins to escape spontaneously and intensely from the cover of the operating valve and safety valve during the cooking process, immediately remove the pressure cooker from heat. After the pressure cooker cools down, open it and clean the operating valve and the safety valve.
Lock against accidental opening
Prevents accidental opening of the pressure cooker until all steam has escaped from the pressure cooker and pressure has dropped entirely.
Pressure cut-out-aperture in the rim of the lid
If both the operating valve and the safety valve become clogged, the pressure inside the pressure cooker pushes the silicone seal through the aperture in the rim of the lid, which causes an immediate steam release and drop in pressure inside the pressure cooker. If the silicone seal is pushed through the aperture in the rim of the lid, remove the pressure cooker from heat and leave to cool down. The pressure cooker seal made of heat-resistant silicone is designed for approx. 500 hours of operation. If you do not use the pressure cooker often, replace the seal regularly at two-year intervals. If the seal has been pushed through the aperture in the rim of the lid or the seal shows any signs of leakage or loss of elasticity, it must be immediately replaced with a new original seal. For new seals visit a TESCOMA Retail Centre; for contact details see www.tescoma.com.
ATTENTION! WHEN COOKING IN THE PRESSURE COOKER, MAKE SURE THAT THE APERTURE IN THE RIM OF THE LID IS NOT DIRECTED TOWARDS INDIVIDUALS COMING NEAR THE PRESSURE COOKER.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Clean the pressure cooker with normal detergents; avoid using abrasive cleaning agents and sharp objects. The pressure cooker can be cleaned using special agents for stainless steel cookware – for excellent cleaning results, we recommend Cleaner for stainless steel cookware ProfiMATE 500 ml, Aloe Vera (code 903131). Do not store the pressure cooker with the lid on.
Cleaning the lid
Clean the lid of the pressure cooker under running water. Do not wash it in dishwasher.
Cleaning the vessel
The vessel of the pressure cooker is dishwasher safe. Leave an excessively dirty vessel to soak in water or water with detergent before cleaning.
Notice: If cooking in the vessel without the lid on, always add salt only
after the water has started boiling. Adding salt to cold water can cause a
high concentration of table salt at the bottom of the vessel, which results in
the occurrence of light stains called pitting corrosion. These light stains on
the bottom of the vessel do not affect functioning of the product and are not
hazardous to health. As such they do not represent a fault and cannot be
claimed.
Should white sediments or iridescent colouration appear on the inside of the
vessel, use vinegar, drops of lemon or a special cleaning agent for stainless
steel to clean the spots. These are sediments, the formation of which depends
on the chemical composition of the water being used. In the dishwasher, make
sure that the stainless steel cookware is not in contact with other metal
kitchen utensils to avoid rusty or light stains, called contact corrosion, on
the surface of the cookware. Open the door of the dishwasher as soon as
possible after the washing cycle and remove the cookware. Corrosion can also
be transferred to the cookware in water from some other product; we therefore
recommend limiting or eliminating dishwashing in order to preserve the perfect
appearance of the pressure cooker vessel.
INDICATIVE TIMES OF COOKING IN PRESSURE COOKER GrandCHEF
The indicated times of cooking are measured from the moment when steam begins to escape from the operating valve. When this happens, set the heat source to low heat. All the times below are indicative and depend on the ingredients, their size and quantity, quality, initial temperature, type of heat source, etc. Deviations from the indicated times might occur; you will determine accurate times based on your own experience.
