BEFORE MAKING COFFEE
You can choose pre-ground or fresh ground coffee for your coffee. Pre-ground
coffee retains its aroma for 7 to 8 days when stored in an airtight container
in a cool, dark place. Do not refrigerate or freeze it. If stored in the same
way, coffee beans retain their aroma for up to 4 weeks. If made from beans
ground fresh right before use, your coffee will be richer in taste and better.
The grain size of ground coffee is ideal if it resembles salt. Coarser ground
coffee let the hot water flow through too easily, and your coffee will be
thin.
If the coffee is ground fine like flour, it will produce very strong coffee,
but it may clog the coffee maker.
MAKING ESPRESSO OR DOUBLE ESPRESSO COFFEE
- Switch on the appliance by pressing the on/off button (7).
- The 3 icons on the appliance display will start to flash and the coffee machine will heat up to make coffee.
- After about 1 minute, the 3 icons will illuminate continuously indicating the end of the heat-up cycle.
- Place the single dose filter in the filter holder, fill it with ground coffee and properly compact it.
- Snap the filter holder into place with the handle looking to the left toward the open padlock. Turn it to the right until it stops at the closed padlock mark, so that the handle looks forward. The edge of the filter holder should be clean to closely align with the seal on the appliance.
- Place a cup under the outlets.
- Touch the espresso button (9).
- The machine brews the coffee and stops at the end of the process.
- To make a double espresso, use the double dose filter with more ground coffee, and press the double espresso button (10) to brew it.
FROTHING MILK, MAKING CAPPUCCINO
Cappuccino consists of 1/3 part espresso coffee, 1/3 part steamed milk and 1/3
part milk foam. Making milk foam requires practice, so don’t get desperate if
you don’t succeed at first. For best results, we recommend you to froth the
milk in a separate glass and pour it over the coffee afterwards.
Use skimmed, up to 1.5% fat milk for frothing. Note that the milk should be
cold and the glass of room temperature.
-
The first step is to make espresso or double espresso coffee.
-
When the coffee is ready, touch the steam heat-up button. The icon will keep flashing until the appliance completes heat-up for the steaming, then it will illuminate continuously, when the correct temperature is reached.
-
Immerse the frothing nozzle in half a glass of water and turn the steam control (3) leftward to steaming position. Steaming will start and become continuous.
-
Fill a metal or porcelain mug with half-cold milk.
-
Immerse the milk frothing nozzle just below the surface of the milk and start steaming.
-
Make circles with the mug for about 30 seconds keeping the nozzle below the surface of the milk all the time.
-
When the volume of the milk has doubled, immerse the nozzle deeper into the milk to heat it up.
-
Shut off the steam using the control. You can now take away the milk from the nozzle.
You are now ready to put together your cappuccino. Pour coffee up to 1/3 of a cup, then add the same amount of steamed milk. Finally, put milk foam on top with a spoon. -
If you tap on the steaming pictogram now, the two icons on the left (espresso / double espresso) will start flashing quickly, indicating that the appliance is too hot to make coffee. When the appliance cools down, the icons will illuminate continuously again. You can speed up cooling by opening the steam control; this will allow the hot water to escape via the frothing nozzle.
STANDBY MODE
If the machine is not used for more than 30 minutes, it will switch to standby mode, as indicated by the pulsating illumination of the middle double espresso button. Touch the key to enter active mode.
