BARTHELME LEDLIGHT FLEX LED STRIPS –INSTALLATION AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
In order to ensure proper and safe operation, it is essential to follow these instructions!
The instructions are only valid for the products named above. They contain important instructions for commissioning and handling and are an integral part of the product. If you pass this product to third parties, ensure that you also pass on these instructions.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON INTENDED USE

The Barthelme LEDlight flex LED Strip is a flexible LED module which serves as a component for the production of luminaires for general lighting. During operation, the LED strip must be provided with a suitable housing that fulfils the normative and legal requirements for the intended purpose and location and which protects the sensitive electronic components of the flexible printed circuit board from external influences and ESD. Particularly when used outdoors, appropriate precautions must be taken to protect against water, moisture and salt. In addition, sufficient cooling of the LED strip must be ensured. The permissible maximum Tc temperature must not be exceeded during operation. Read the safety instructions carefully. Electrical installation of the LED strip must be carried out by a qualified electrician!

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

All information in these instructions, and especially the safety instructions, must be followed at all times.
This symbol indicates general hazards or important information that must be observed
The arrow symbol is used to indicate specific information or tips.
WARNING OF ELECTRIC VOLTAGE!
IMPROPER AND UNPROFESSIONAL WORKING WHEN CONNECTING THE LED STRIP PRESENTS A DANGER TO LIFE. THE ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION MUST BE CARRIED OUT BY A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN.
RISK OF INJURY, RISK OF BLINDING!
THE LED STRIP SHINES VERY BRIGHTLY. LOOKING DIRECTLY AT THE LIGHT SOURCE MAY RESULT IN EYE INJURIES.
In commercial establishments, observe the accident prevention regulations issued by the federation of industrial trade associations for electrical systems and equipment.
The LED strip may only be operated with a suitable controller/power supply. For the permissible voltage, see valid datasheet at www.barthelme.de
DISCLAIMER
Damage to the product resulting from failure to comply with these instructions will void the warranty and all related claims.
We also accept no liability for consequential damages resulting from improper use.
The same applies for property damage and personal injury caused by improper handling or non-observance of the safety instructions.

INSTALLATION AND HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS

During installation, observe the safety regulations for the prevention of electrostatic discharge (ESD). This is one of the most common causes of failure in electronic components containing semiconductors. Barthelme produces, stores and packs all Barthelme LEDlight flex LED strips in an ESD- protected environment and uses anti-static packaging. We recommend using our ESD grounding set with wrist strap when working with the product (item No. 50991800).

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

» The LED strip may only be sharply bent once in places where no electronic components are mounted. The minimum bending radius is 2 cm.
» Ensure that no mechanical loads are applied to the electronic components on the LED strip.
» Ensure that the LED strip is adequately protected in areas containing dust or water. CUTTING LED STRIPS TO THE DESIRED LENGTH
» You can use scissors (or similar) to cut the Barthleme LEDlight flex LED strip to the desired length at the marked points between the solder pads.Barthelme Ledlight Flex LED Strips - fig 2

ADDING CONNECTIONS VIA SOLDERING
» Connect the supply line or connection cable by soldering it to the provided solder pads.
» Note the polarity (+/- label) on the solder pads. If the polarity is incorrect, no light will be emitted and/or the LED strip may be damaged.
» When soldering, a max. soldering time of 3 seconds and a max. soldering temperature of 350°C must be observed.
» When connecting multiple LED modules, observe the maximum operable length of a combined module (see  valid datasheet at www.barthelme.de).Correspondingly longer  LED modules are possible by intermediate infeed or by infeed at beginning and end of the LED module.     Barthelme Ledlight Flex LED Strips - fig

ADDING CONNECTIONS WITHOUT SOLDERING
» An LED strip connector can be used with Barthelme LEDlight flex LED strips marked „8p”. (Item numbers: 50070201,-02, -03, -04)
» Remove the protective foil from the adhesive tape. Pushthe LED strip into the connector until it snaps into place.
» When connecting multiple LED modules, observe the maximum operable length of a combined module (see validdatasheet at www.barthelme.de). Correspondingly longerLED modules can be created by connecting an (intermediate) feed at the beginning and end of the LED module.
» Note that the maximum current carrying capacity acrossall pins of a connector must not exceed 10 A!Barthelme Ledlight Flex LED Strips - fig

MAX. CURRENT CARRYING CAPACITY PER PIN

2-pin 5:00 AM
4-pin (pin 1/pin 2–4) 5 A / 1.67 A

RESTORING THE IP PROTECTION TYPE
» When cutting or soldering an IP 66-MFC LED strip, these cut/soldered locations must then be resealed to restore fullprotection.
» For this purpose, we recommend only using products approved by us. An up-to- date list of these products can be foundat www.barthelme.de
» The use of connectors is not recommended for protection class IP 66-MFC.
INSTALLATION ON A THERMALLY CONDUCTIVE SUBSTRATE
IMPORTANT: Before installation, test the LED strip for proper functioning in the unrolled state. Subsequent complaints for material defects cannot be accepted.
» Install the LED strip on a thermally conductive substrate using the double- sided adhesive tape on the rear.
» Ensure that the installation surface is clean and free from grease, oil, silicone and dirt particles.
» We strongly advise against performing the installation on uneven or poorly heat-conductive surfaces, such as plasterboard, wallpaper, wood or stone, as this may significantly shorten the product‘s service life and adversely affect the adhesion of the adhesive tape.
» Ensure that solder joints are properly insulated from the profile.Barthelme Ledlight Flex LED Strips - fig 5» To proceed, peel off the protective foil and press lightly on the LED strip. Take care not to damage the electronic components! Do not use screwdrivers or similar tools when installing the LED strips!
» Ensure that the permissible temperature at the Tc point (see valid datasheet at www.barthelme.de) is not exceeded during operation. We recommend using one of our approved Barthelme LED profiles.Barthelme Ledlight Flex LED Strips - fig 6We recommend avoiding affixing the LED strips over profile joints! The physical expansion or contraction of the profile in the event of temperature fluctuations may damage
the LED strip. One solution here is to correctly distribute the solder pads at the joint and use flexible connections, e.g. soldered flexible wire bridges or LED strip connectors.Barthelme Ledlight Flex LED Strips - fig

CONNECTION TO THE POWER SUPPLY

A constant voltage power supply is required for operation — this must be dimensioned according to the power and voltage of the LED strip (see valid datasheet at www.barthelme.de).
A controller is required for advanced features (e.g. dimming or color control). We recommend our CHROMOFLEX control unit series. More information is available at
www.barthelme.de
» Connect the power cable attached to the LED strip to the secondary side of the power supply. Observe the polarity (+/-)  onthe LED strips and power supply!
» Ensure sufficient dimensioning of the power supply; we recommend factoring in a 20% power reserve.
» For the power consumption and rated voltage, see valid datasheet at www.barthelme.de.Barthelme Ledlight Flex LED

MAINTENANCE + CARE

» The LED strip is maintenance-free.
» Should it be necessary to clean the LED strip due to contact with dust or light dirt, perform dry cleaning using clean compressed air (observe the appropriate dosage, do not spray directly onto components) or a clean, soft and lint-free cotton cloth.
» Cleaning with liquids or cleaning agents is strongly discouraged as this could damage the LED strip!
