Introduction

Many Jaguar owners looking for a simple way to connect Apple iPods will be pleased to know the IP-JAG98 adapter does exactly that. The IP-JAG98 adapter provides a 30-pin dock connector to charge and play Apple 30-pin iPods and iPhones. In 1997-06* with Standard audio systems, the module connects to the radio or at CD changer plug-in trunk/boot. 2000-06 Premium Systems; the module connects at the CD changer. See Frequently Asked questions at the end of this guide for more specific details.

A toggle switch (see Fig. 11) is used to select the installation location. 2000-up Alpine Premium system must connect the module at the CD changer only. See installation 2 on page 5.

This applies only to single DIN radios with ground strap.
  12.  Connect Apple 30pin dock cable (See Fig. 11) and 8-pin min-din port on module (See Fig. 12)
  13. Route 30-pin dock to the desired mounting location (dashboard, glove box, console etc.) within 12 ft. of the radio.

Installation 2. (To CD plug in trunk/hatch)

Applicable to 2000-03 x308 & 2000-06 x100 Premium Audio Systems Warning! Toggle switch (See Fig. 14) applies to installation 1. NOT included in 2000-03 XJ, 2000-06 XK Alpine Premium Systems. In these vehicles the IP-JAG98 is only able to connect to the CD changer plug in trunk/hatch

2000-06: Follow these steps to determine if vehicle has Alpine premium (amplifier) system

  1. Go to trunk/boot and remove driver side brake light cover (amp/cd changer location may be opposite in ROW vehicles)
  2. Remove carpet trim piece surrounding rack. Simply gasp top edge, pulldown and away.
  3. With trim piece removed, you will see rack which holds CD AutoChanger, Navigation DVD Unit, Amplifier etc. as seen in Fig. 15

Remove (4) 8mm nuts securing rack to vehicle to reveal wiring andconnections Locate short black pigtail cable on CD autochanger (it’s the only cable CD changer) See Fig. 16

Remove cable from holding tab (See Fig. 16), and disconnect by pulling apart (do not twist) Once disconnected; the female connector on the right (leads to changer)and male plug on the left (leads to the amplifier or radio) – See Fig. 17

Connect factory male plug (See Fig. 17) to module female connector. (See Fig. 18)

Connect module right-angle male plug (See Fig. 18) to CD changer pigtail connector (See Fig. 17)

Warning: Module right-angle male plug does not have alignment marking. When connecting to CD pigtail, align the imaginary mark shown in Fig. 19 with the alignment mark on pigtail connector (See Fig. 17), Ignoring this step may result in damage to both plug and connector.

Noteworthy: Multiple Ai-Net cable connections found between audio rack components. To minimize connecting errors, locate single pigtail cable on CD changer— this is the only cable with which you will be working. Connecting the module to the wrong Ai-NET plug will result in loss of power, low playback etc.

Route dock cable into vehicle cabin (center armrest, glove box or any location inside the vehicle. Note: In this guide dock cable is routed to center console (armrest).

Routing Apple dock cable

Dock cable extends from trunk to drivers’ area at front of vehicle. (12 ft. long)

  1. Start from rear window on driver’s side. Use a pry tool or similar to open a gap (1/2 inch) to allow mini-din plug on dock cable through and into trunk as seen in Fig. 20
  2. With dock connector through (See Fig. 21), go back into trunk and pull about 3 ft. of cable or as needed to reach module.
  3.  Return to vehicle and route dock cable under seat backrest and cushion working your way towards center console as seen in Fig. 22, Fig. 23 and Fig. 24
  4. Continue to use pry tool or fingers to hide cable under center console until you reach area just below center armrest storage bin.
  5.  To remove storage bin: Open center armrest and remove 2 Philips head screws from latch cover and two more from hinge at the rear then remove single screw on retainer bracket.
  6. Lift to remove storage bin and set aside.
  7. Locate cable fed through in step 4 and pull gently until dock connector reaches bottom edge of console (See Fig. 24)
  8. Use pry tool or fingers to feed dock connector through. Do not force or pull. (See Fig. 24)
  9. If center armrest is the final destination, wire tie any extra cable and store it at front end of center armrest as seen in Fig. 25 (also allows for storage bin to fit back in place
  10. Reinstall storage bin.
  11. Route dock connector cable up and under latch cover See Fig. 26) or over and through gap between ashtray cover
  12. Secure hinge to storage bin using 2 Phillip screws and retainer bracket screw removed in step 5. This concludes cable installation.
  13.  Return to trunk and connect dock cable to module 8-pin mini-DIN (See Fig. 27) To avoid damaging cable, please ensure alignment marker on plug is facing up.
