Introduction

In 2012 Apple released a new generation of products and with them a new lightning port. Jaguar owners looking to bring these devices on the road while retaining the original radio will be pleased to find that the IL-JAG97 will play and charge Apple IOS devices without sacrificing the look and feel of the dashboard components. Installing the IL-JAG97 requires sacrificing the CD Changer (if present), but with the storage capacity of Apple IOS devices, sacrificing the changer should be an easy decision. To retain CD changer playback or for a Bluetooth wireless solution, see our A2D-JAG97 instead. See Frequently Asked question at the end of this guide for details.

Installation

1. Radio removal required to gain access to the radio connector. Click here for video removal instructions or copy and paste link into browser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpAIdr6V3iE
2. If present, disconnect CD changer plug from radio
3. Connect adapter 8-pin plug (See Fig. 1) to radio 8-pin “CD” connector (See Fig. 2)
4. Carefully route lightning plug (See Fig. 3) to desired location near dashboard, glove box, console etc. within 4 ft. Use caution to not cut, pinch or crimp the cable during this step.
5. Ensure the lightning cable is away from heat, humidity, moving parts, or sharp metal objects. Damage to lightning plug may occur if subject to abuse.

Operation

1. Turn radio ON.
2. Press radio “CD” button to enter CD mode.
3. Connect Apple iOS device to lightning plug
4. Apple device will begin charging:
   • Note: Charging may not begin until device is unlocked
5. Select favorite track using Apple device built-in controls.
   • Warning: Playlist and Track selection is NOT possible from the radio. You must use the iPod built-in controls to access music files.
6. Device playback should now be heard on car speakers
7. Use radio volume control to set playback level
8. If successful go ahead and reinstall radio.

Optional remote

This wireless remote allows for pause, play, volume adjustment, or otherwise control your media from farther away than arm’s reach. Use at home to control Bluetooth device from up to 30 ft. (Does not control OEM radio functions)

1. Keep audio device in pocket, glovebox, purse or elsewhere
2. Track up/down within playlist etc.
3. Adjust audio device volume (up/down)

Frequent ask questions & troubleshooting

1. Does the IL-JAG97 work in premium systems
   • The iL-JAG97 works in all audio systems, except late 1997 XK (X100) with Ai-NET connectors/plugs-these requires our iL-JAG98.
2. Your IL-JAG97 and IL-JAG98 both list 1997 XK in their application, but how can I tell which applies to my vehicle?
   • Jaguar XK8 audio system changed in late 1997 which means vehicle productions of same calendar year will have different audio systems. To avoid costly returns, we highly recommend checking the “CD” plug in all 1997 XK8:
   • If Ai-NET connector- (See Fig. 5), purchase our IL-JAG98
   • If 8-pin DIN (male plug)- (See Fig. 5), purchase our IL-JAG97 When in doubt check your application prior to ordering.
3. Does the IL-JAG97 work in vehicles with CD changer?
   • YES, but CD changer (if present) must be disconnected.
4. What playback options do you offer for retaining use of the CD changer?
   • If you must retain use of the CD changer, purchase our A2D-JAG97 music streaming solution.
5. Can I install the IL-JAG97 without removing radio?
   • NO; the iL-JAG97 connects to the back of the radio and because of that radio removal is required. NOTE: It is also possible to connect to CD changer plug in trunk/hatch, but the 4 ft. long, is not be long enough to reach seating area.
6. Would leaving Apple device connected drain battery?
   • The IL-JAG97 is powered at all times which means ignition does not have to be “ON” for device to charge. If IOS device is left connected for a prolong number of hours while engine is OFF, it has the potential to drain car battery, therefore we highly recommend disconnecting IOS device when not in use.
7. Does this work with the iPod Nano 7G?
   • NO.
