Requirements: Radio with cd changer controls

Introduction

Many Jaguar owners looking for a simple way to connect Apple iPods will be pleased to know the iP-JAG97 adapter does exactly that. The iP-JAG97 adapter provides a 30-pin dock connector for charging and playback from any Apple 30-pin iPod and iPhone. This adapter connects directly to the CD changer port at the radio and replaces CD changer (if present). To retain CD changer playback or for a Bluetooth wireless solution, see our A2D-JAG97

Installation

Warning: The IP-JAG97 connects to radio and replaces CD changer

  1. Gain access to the back of the radio. If you have never done this before, please click here for video dash removal guide which will aid you through this process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpAIdr6V3iE
  2. Locate CD port on radio (if prewired, disconnect cable from radio)
  3. Connect adapter’s 8-pin plug to “CD” port on radio. (See Fig. 1)
  4. Connect 8-pin min-din plug from dock connector to the 8-pin mini-DIN connector on module (See Fig. 3) and route 30-pin dock (See Fig.2) to desired location on dashboard, glove box, console etc. Use caution to not cut, pinch or crimp the cable during this step.
  5. Install 30-pin connector in a location away from heat, humidity, moving parts, or sharp metal objects. Damage to dock connector may occur if subject to abuse.

Simply connect the A2D-DOCK (Fig. 4) to 30-pin dock on the IP-JAG97, pair audio device and enjoy.

Operation

  1. Turn ON ignition and Radio.

  2. Press “CD” button on radio.

  3. Connect audio device to the 30-pin dock connector

  4. Search audio device for a test track. If distorted, lower volume on audio device or radio.
    Warning: Playlist and Track selection is NOT possible from the Radio. Use the smartphone built-in controls to access and control the audio files.

  5. If correct operation is confirmed, tuck away any extra wires and re-install radio.

Frequent ask questions & troubleshooting

  1. Does the iP-JAG97 work in Premium Systems?
    YES; the iP-JAG97 works in all pre 1998 Jaguar audio systems. CD Changer (if present0 must be disconnected.

  2. I see the iP-JAG97 and iP-JAG98 are listed for 1997 XK, how can I tell which one I need or what’s the difference?
    In late 1997 XK8, Jaguar introduces a new plug which means vehicles in that calendar year may have different plugs. The best way to check application is by checking CD plug in trunk/hatch: If vehicle has an Ai-NET plug (see female connector in Fig.5, the iP-JAG98 applies If vehicle has an M-BUS plug (See male plug in Fig. 5), this iP-JAG97 applies Vehicles with 8-pin DIN requires our JAG97 line of products, whereas vehicles with 8-pin Ai-NET type Female connector requires our JAG98 line of product (e.g. IP-JAG98 .   3. Can I connect the IP-JAG97 to CD changer cable in trunk?
    YES; if vehicle is wired or if there is a Changer in trunk/luggage compartment, it is also possible to connect the adapter there. CD changer must be disconnected.
    Note: Dock cable is only 5 ft. long which is not long enough to reach vehicle cabin.

  4. Can I control music from radio buttons?
    NO; you must use audio device built-in controls to access music files. Radio volume control is used to set playback level.
