SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

  • Never use the balance bike without wearing a correctly adjusted and correctly fitted helmet. Using helmets saves lives!
  • Do not use the balance bike at night, or in the dark, in wet conditions or on slippery surfaces.
  • A correctly fitted helmet covers the forehead. An incorrectly fitted helmet exposes the forehead and can result in the risk of serious personal injury.
  • The balance bike is intended to be used by children from 3 to 6 years old.
  • Children who cannot stand up by themselves should not use the balance bike.
  • Children shorter than 85 cm or longer than 110 cm should not use the balance bike.
  • Children must only use the balance bike when supervised by an adult.
  • Use personal safety equipment (helmet and kneepads). Do not use in traffic. The balance bike should only be used indoors, or in parks or playgrounds etc. Avoid wet surfaces.
  • The balance bike must be assembled by an adult. Check before use that the balance bike is in good condition. Incorrect assembly can result in serious personal injury.
  • Use the bike carefully to avoid falling over and collisions.

ASSEMBLY

Open the box from the top and lift out the product. Remove the packaging material and transport protection parts. Check that all the parts are included in the delivery. Lubricate all threads and moving parts before assembling.

HANDLEBARS & HANDLEBAR POST
  1. Remove the protective cover from the handlebar post key and undo the screw with a 6 mm hex key. Some models have a 13 mm hex head instead of a socket head.
  2. Push the handlebar post into the front fork tube until the marking for the top position cannot be seen.
  3. Check that the handlebars and front fork are turned forwards and that the handlebars are straight in the front fork. Tighten the handlebar post screw.
  4. Angle the handlebars to the required position. Tighten the handlebars by turning the handlebar clip screws in turns, 2 turns at once. Repeat this tightening until the handlebars sit firmly in the handlebar post. Do not overtighten the handlebar post screw or the bearing – this can damage the balance bike and result in personal injury.
    • Tightening sequence for handlebar clips with 4 or 6 screws.  FIG. 2KAYOBA-021125-Balance-Bike-fig-2
  5. Check finally that all the handlebar post screws are properly tightened.
SADDLE
  1. Undo the saddle clip nuts and lubricate the threads with a few drops of oil.
  2. Push the thin end of the saddle post into the saddle clip as far as it goes. The saddle clip screw should be behind the saddle post.
  3. Screw the saddle clip nut back on, loosely.
  4. Push the thick end of the saddle post into the saddle tube on the fork until the marking for the top position cannot be seen.
  5. Angle the saddle so that its seat is parallel to the ground. Align the toothing on the saddle clip washers. Work the tip of the saddle up and down until the toothing aligns and the washers lock into each other.
  6. Firmly tighten the saddle clips and saddle post clips.

USE

ADJUSTING THE SADDLE HEIGHT

  1. Ask the child to straddle the saddle with both feet on the ground.
  2. Adjust the height of the saddle so that the top of the saddle is 3 to 5 cm lower than the seat of the child and then tighten the saddle post clip screw.
MOVING

One foot at a time
The first time the child uses the balance bike the child should move the bike by pushing forward with one foot and allowing the other foot to slide forward without lifting it from the ground. Moving is therefore accomplished by alternately using the left and right feet, without lifting them from the ground at the same time.

With both feet
When the child has learned to balance it can be encouraged to push forward with both feet at the same time. The child can lift both feet at the same time and allow them to swing forwards and push away together.

BRAKING
Stretch both legs forward and press the feet against the ground, so that the friction between the feet and the ground breaks the balance bike.

MAINTENANCE

  • Check and if necessary retighten all the screw unions at intervals of 1 to 2 weeks.
  • Check that none of the components are severely worn or damaged or are coming loose/moved out of position.

HEAD BEARING

  • Check that the lock nut is tightened and that there is no play in the bearing.
  • Check that the front fork turns freely without resistance.

FRONT & BACK WHEELS

  • Check that the axle nuts are tightened.
  • Check that the spokes are uniformly and well tensioned and that the rims are not warped.

HANDLEBARS & HANDLEBAR POST

  • Adjust to a comfortable angle and height. Check that the handlebar post is sufficiently inserted in the front fork tube (it should not be possible to see the marking for the top position).
  • Check, and if necessary retighten, the handlebar post screw and the handlebar clip screws.
  • Check that the grips fit firmly on the handlebars and cannot slide off. Replace worn or loose grips.

SADDLE

  • Adjust to a comfortable angle and height.
  • Check that the handlebar post is sufficiently inserted in the frame (it should not be possible to see the marking for the top position).
  • Check, and if necessary retighten, the saddle clip and the saddle post clip so that the saddle cannot twist in relation to the frame.

TYRE

  • Check the tyre pressures before use.
  • Check that the tyres are pumped to the pressure given on the side of the tyres. Pump up the tyres when necessary with a hand or foot pump (do not use unregulated compressors or equivalent).
  • Check that the tyres fit properly on the rims.

FRAME
Check that the frame is not cracked or otherwise damaged. If the frame is bent or damaged it must be immediately replaced. A damaged frame increases the pressure on the other parts of the balance bike and is therefore not safe to use.
