SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Read these instructions carefully before installation and use.

  • Pump is sealed and submersible. The electrical connections must not be immersed in water or any other liquid. For extra protection, wind connector sleeves and wire ends with insulating tape.
  • The product is only intended for pumping water. It must not be used for pumping other liquids.
  • Connect the black wire on the pump to the negative terminal (-) and the brown or brown-white wire to the positive terminal (+).
  • Use a suitable fuse.
  • Cable connections should be protected with marine sealant.
  • Wires and electrical connections should be placed over the highest level of water. Do not remove insulation unless necessary. All wires should be protected with marine sealant.
  • Do not run the product dry.

WARNING!

  • Disconnect the power supply before installation and/or maintenance of electrical products, otherwise there is a risk of electric shock and/or personal injury.

  • Do not use the pump to pump petrol, oil or any other flammable liquid.

  • Always use a fuse with the specified amperage for the actual product, otherwise there is a risk of fire and/or serious personal injury.

DESCRIPTION

RECOMMENDED INSTALLATION MATERIAL
  • Board of 1/2″ marine plywood, somewhat larger than the base plate on the bilge pump.
  • Waterproof glue (epoxy, silicone or glass-fibre resin) for installation of board.
  • Brown/brown-white and black wire, cross sectional area 1 mm2.
  • Hose with ID 3/4″ to bilge pump outlet.
  • Stainless steel hose clip.

NOTE:
All the above sold separately.

INSTALLATION

  1. Remove the base on the bilge pump.
    1. Three screws 2. Impeller casing 3. Two catches
    FIG. 1
    Installation

  2. Remove the foam plastic block that protects the float during transport. If this is not removed the pump will not start even if there is a high level of water.

POSITIONING OF PUMP

Decide where toput the pump. If only one pump is used it is usually best to put it where the water is deepest when the boat is still. Check that the pump casing can be removed for cleaning.

  1. Press the catches on the side of the pump and release the filter from underneath the pump.

  2. All the necessary conduits for the transport of water must be installed. Fit all the conduits horizontally or place the pump higher, to prevent water remaining in the conduits.
    Fit the filter.
A: When fitting the plywood board, use self-tapping screws of stainless steel, Ø 4.0 mm.
B: When installing on metal or glass fibre, fit a plywood board first, fit the filter on the board and then put the pump on the filter. Make sure that the two catches engage.

  3. Connect a hose with ID 3/4″ to the bilge pump outlet and secure with stainless steel hose clip. Use a hose that bends, to prevent blockages.

  4. To prevent corrosion and damage to the wires the wire ends and terminals must be protected with insulation tape and fastened as high up as possible.
Wires with cross-sectional area of 1.0 mm2 recommended. Using thinner wires leads to less pressure and reduced pump capacity, and can cause overheating.

  5. Check the installation to make sure everything is working as it should.

NOTE:

  • Make sure to replace the filter correctly before connecting and/ or starting the pump. Never run the pump without the filter.
  • The pump should be placed above the water level.
  • Using a hose with a smaller diameter will not damage the pump, but the flow will be reduced.
Fit the filter
  1. Check that the thickness of the hull is at least 12.7 mm. If not, place a board of 1/2″ marine plywood, somewhat larger than the base plate, where the bilge water is deepest. Glue the plywood board in place with waterproof glue (epoxy, silicone or glass-fibre resin).

  2. Bow

  3. Pump float facing the bow

  4. Board for installation, thickness 1/2”

  5. Pump outlet turned to stern

  6. Stern

  7. Horizontal

  8. Parallel with bottom of boat
    FIG. 2
    Fit the filter

  9. Place the pump where the bilge water is deepest, on a level, smooth surface (where appropriate on plywood board) with the outlet turned towards the stern. Make sure that the outlet is horizontal, if it points up or down air can collect in the pump.

  10. The pump’s float end must be placed level with or higher than the pump end (figure 1). This avoids running the pump dry before the float has sunk sufficiently low to switch off the pump.

  11. Mark out the three holes.

  12. Carefully drill two holes with a diameter of 3 mm at the markings and screw a screw in each hole.

  13. Put two hose clips on the hose. Put the hose on the pump outlet. Fit and tighten the hose clip.

  14. Pull the hose up to the hull bushing. Avoid letting the hose hang in bends that can cause water to accumulate and/or let air collect in the pump. Do not put any strain on the hose, this can damage the pump outlet.

  15. Put the hose on the hull bushing and fit and tighten the clip.

WARNING!
Make sure not to drill through the hull.

Electrical connection
  1. Always use the full length of the supplied wires and extra length, if necessary, and connect to the pump as per diagram.

  2. Black

  3. Battery 12 VDC

  4. Suitable fuse (see technical data)

  5. Manual mode

  6. Off

  7. Automatic mode

  8. 3-way switch

    Electrical connection

  12. Route the wires so that they are protected and not in the way, and fasten them so that they are not subjected to tension.

  13. Connect fuse holder to positive wire (brown or brown-white) between battery and switch. Use connector sleeves for cross-sectional area 1 mm2. Place the fuse holder so that it is accessible to replace fuse.

  14. For models with manual and automatic mode, fit a three-way switch to switch between manual and automatic mode..

IMPORTANT:
Use fuses with suitable amperage as per technical data.

WARNING!

  • Check that the power source provides 12 VDC. Higher voltage will damage the pump.

  • Use a suitable fuse.

  • Use correctly connected waterproof connections

Connection for automatic mode
  • For automatic mode connect the brown-white wire to positive terminal (+) on the battery and the black wire to negative terminal (-) on the battery.
  • When the water level rises over 40–50 mm over the flat bottom of the filter the float switch closes and the bilge pump starts.
  • When the water level drops below 20–30 mm over the flat bottom of the filter the float switch opens and the bilge pump switches off. To deactivate automatic mode connect the brown wire to positive terminal (+) on the battery and the black wire to negative terminal (-).
Function check

Start the pump and turn the test dial clockwise to check functionality.
Make sure the pump sucks water.

  • If the outflow seems too little, check the electrical connections.
  • If the wires are reversed the impeller will rotate backwards, which results in less capacity and can damage the pump.

NOTE:
Never poke your fingers or other objects in the inlet opening.

MAINTENANCE

Follow these instructions for best functionality and life span.

CHECK AT REGULARL INTERVALS
  • Check that the impeller and/or float are not blocked. Turn the test dial clockwise to check functionality of the pump.
  • Check that the impeller is correctly in place and free from cracks and other damage.
  • Check at regular intervals that the electrical connections are watertight and above the surface of the water.
CLEANING
  1. To clean the water chamber, press the catches on the side and lift the pump housing off the base.
    FIG. 4

  2. To clean the impeller, remove the screws holding the impeller casing and lift off the casing.

  3. Remove any fouling from the pump chamber and round the impeller. Make sure to remove all fouling from the strainer openings round the pump base.

  4. Replace the impeller casing and screw tight. Put the pump housing on the base and check that the catches engage.

NOTE:
Do not use household detergent for cleaning, this can damage the pump.
