1.4 Chrono-thermostat Module Installation Operations

Fix the wall mount to the wall using the supplied expansion
plugs and screws. -
Insert the provided LR03 (AAA) batteries into the battery
compartment. -
Mount the Chrono-thermostat on the wall mount.

To replace batteries, release the Chrono-thermostat from the
wall mount and repeat the above steps. -
Remove the protective film from the display of the
chrono-thermostat after installation.

FOREWORD.
The ‘Smartech Plus Expansion Kit’ is designed to be used in combination with
Smartech Plus in the event that the air-conditioning system needs to be split
into several zones, and you wish to equip each of them with independent room
temperature control. Up to 2 Smartech Plus Expansion Kits can be used in each
system, which together with the Smartech Plus chrono-thermostat, allow the
creation of systems divided into a maximum of 3 zones with autonomous
temperature control. The Smartech Plus Expansion Kit includes a wireless
chrono-thermostat and a wireless relay to activate the relevant zone actuator
, if any. The battery-powered chrono-thermostat requires no electrical
connection and is equipped with an e-ink technology display for viewing the
main temperature control parameters of the controlled zone. A mount for easy
wall assembly is supplied as per standard with the device, while the same
table base already supplied with the Smartech Plus kit is available as an
alternative. Both the chrono-thermostat and the wireless relay must be paired
with the Smartech Plus kit gateway by following the simple pairing procedure
outlined in the following paragraphs. Management of all system zones can also
be carried out via smartphone by installing the ‘Smartech’ app available on
Immergas Android and iOS stores.
GENERAL WARNINGS.
This manual has been drafted for the installer and also includes basic
instructions for the end user.
· Make sure you have completed all installation steps of the “Smartech Plus
kit” before proceeding with the installation of the “Smartech Plus expansion
kit”.
· Carefully read the warnings contained in this document as they provide
indications on the technical features as well as the installation, assembly,
programming, adjustment and use instructions.
· The device must be installed in compliance with electrical installation
standards in force.
· This instruction manual and the “Smartech” application manual must be “kept
for future reference”.
· After removing the packaging, ensure the integrity of the chrono-thermostat
and wireless relay supplied in the kit. If in doubt, do not use them and
contact the Dealer or Manufacturer.
· The “Smartech Plus expansion kit” is intended only for the use for which it
has been expressly designed. Any other use must be considered improper and
therefore dangerous.
· Our products are manufactured in compliance with current safety standards.
During installation and use, it is recommended to observe all the precautions
to avoid harming persons or damaging objects.
· Do not disassemble parts of the chrono-thermostat or wireless relay when
they are in operation.
· Do not use the Chrono-thermostat and wireless relay in places exposed to
heat sources or direct sunlight.
· The manufacturer will not be held responsible in the following cases:
a) Incorrect installation.
b) Operating defects of the generator to which the “Smartech Plus expansion
kit” is applied.
c) Unauthorised changes or tampering.
d) Total or partial failure to comply with instructions.
e) Exceptional events etc.

metres above the floor;

CLEANING THE COVER.
Use a dry cloth to clean the cover of the chrono-thermostat. Never use
abrasive or powder detergents.
WARNING. Immergas reserves the right to make improvements and changes to
details and accessories, excepting the essential features of the model
described and illustrated herein.
1. INSTALLATION.
1.1 Installation recommendations. The electrical installation of the
components of the “Smartech Plus expansion kit”, including the relevant cables
and connections to the generator or system, must be carried out by specialised
personnel suitably trained for this purpose. On the free initial check of the
Immergas generator, when this kit is inserted into the system, the Immergas
authorised After-sales Centre checks the electrical connection and regular
operation. The free check of the kit is not envisioned by the Immergas
authorised After-sales Centre if this is requested after the generator
warranty has started, or if the temperature control system is not connected to
an Immergas generator.
Attention: installing the “Smartech Plus expansion kit” is excluded from the
free generator checks; it is the responsibility of the installer company.

1.4 Chrono-thermostat module installation operations (Fig. 2).
N.B.: make sure that the installation area of the Chronothermostat receives
the Bluetooth signal of the Smartech Plus Gateway properly. To do so, after
having paired them (Par. 1.8) follow the instructions in Par. 3.3 “Bluetooth
communication quality check”.
Install the wall mount (2) by fixing it to the wall using the supplied
expansion plugs (1) and screws (3).
N.B.: pay attention to correctly position the spirit level (5) downwards.
Insert the 2 supplied LR03 (AAA) batteries into the battery compartment (Fig.
3), then press-couple the Chrono-thermostat on the mount (2). To replace the
batteries, release the Chrono-thermostat (4) from the wall mount (2) and
repeat the above operations.
At the end of the installation, remove the protective film from the display of
the chrono-thermostat.

1.5 Expansion kit electrical connection Smartech Plus.
Each Smartech Plus Expansion Kit contains a wireless relay for the eventual
activation of the corresponding zone actuator. The electrical connections of
the Wireless Relay must be carried out according to the diagrams shown in
Chapter 4.
N.B.: ensure that the place where the Wireless relay is installed is
adequately reached by the home Wi-Fi network to which the Smartech Plus
Gateway is also connected.
N.B.: before performing any electrical connection, make sure that all the
involved appliances are disconnected from the mains.
N.B.: The Wireless Relay must be connected to the mains power supply (230Vac /
50Hz) in accordance with current electrical installation regulations,
providing in any case an omnipolar disconnection device with class III
overvoltage category.
N.B.: The wireless relay contained in the kit is specifically designed to be
used in Immergas S.p.A. Smartech Plus systems. The manufacturer will not be
held liable if a different wireless relay is used than the one provided.
1.6 Coupling to boilers with mixed zones. When installing in combination with
boilers in systems with mixed zones, a zones control unit must be used,
installing the V2 zones control unit Kit or a DIM Erp (Multi-system Water
Manifold) if not supplied as per standard in the boiler. The electrical
connection must be made according to the diagrams: – Fig. 7 for appliances
equipped with communication bus (IMG BUS), modulating operation. – Fig. 9 for
appliances without communication bus (IMG BUS), On/Off operation).
N.B.: when installing Smartech Plus and expansion kit on systems with mixed
zones, you must set the design limit temperature for that zone on the trimmers
of the mixed zone (ref. R12/R13 Fig. 7/9).
N.B.: when installing Smartech Plus and expansion kit on systems that already
have the V2 zones control unit Kit or a DIM Erp (Multi-system Water Manifold),
or with boilers supplied as per standard with zones control unit, follow the
wiring diagrams indicated above and, if present, eliminate communication
cables between boiler (terminals 41-44) and zones control unit.
1.7 Connecting the Wireless Relay to the WiFi network used for the Smartech
Plus system.
For the system to work properly, the Wireless Relay and the Smartech Plus
Gateway must be connected to the same WiFi network. To do this, follow the
configuration procedure below:
– press the button on the Wireless Relay for 10 seconds and then release it,
the LED on the same device will start flashing twice per second;
– using a smartphone, select the Wi-Fi network ‘Jotto_RL_xxxx’ from the
available networks in the phone’s Wi-Fi network selection menu. Now open your
browser and type in the address ‘192.168.4.1’;
– on the page displayed, click ‘Configure wifi’; – from the Wi-Fi networks
listed, select the one to which
the Smartech Plus Gateway has been connected, enter its password and press
enter; If the procedure is successful, the LED on the Wireless Relay will stop
flashing and will remain on steady. Otherwise, repeat the procedure from the
beginning.
1.8 Pairing of Chrono-thermostat and Wireless Relay to Smartech Plus Gateway.
N.B.: the procedures below should only be carried out after the Wireless Relay
has been properly connected to the same Wi-Fi network used for the Smartech
Plus Gateway.
N.B.: ensure that the gateway has been powered for at least 5 minutes.

N.B.: after completing each of the procedures below it is necessary to switch
the gateway off (disconnecting the power supply) and back on again.
1.8.1 Pairing of the Wireless Relay to the first zone of the system (main
zone).
If the relay on the Gateway is not used to activate an actuator paired to the
main zone, an optional wireless relay (to be ordered separately) can be used
for this purpose. In this case, proceed as follows:
– press and hold the ‘Reset’ button on the Gateway until the indication on the
‘BLE’ LED changes from one blink every 4 seconds to one blink per second;
– press the ‘Reset’ button on the Gateway several times, until the ‘Cloud’ LED
will flash once per second;
– press the button on the wireless relay. When the LED on this device stops
flashing, check that the Cloud’ LED on the Gateway flashes quickly for about 3 seconds, the wireless relay will be correctly paired to the Gateway on the first zone of the system. If the
Cloud’ LED does not flash quickly for 3
seconds, repeat this last point.
1.8.2 Pairing of the Chrono-thermostat and Wireless Relay to the second zone
of the system.
To pair the Chrono-thermostat and Wireless Relay of the Expansion Kit to the
second zone of the system, proceed as follows:
– press and hold the ‘Reset’ button on the Gateway until the indication on the
‘BLE’ LED changes from one blink every 4 seconds to one blink per second;
– press the ‘Reset’ button on the Gateway several times, until the ‘BLE’ LED
will flash twice per second;
– with Chrono-thermostat set on the main window, press and hold the same key
for 3 seconds until the “Mode” or “Program” menu appears, then rotate the
Chrono-thermostat to display the “Settings” menu. At this point, press again
and rotate to select the ‘Diagnostic’ menu, then press to confirm and enter
the same menu;
– press again on the chrono-thermostat, the message ‘Pairing’ will appear to
indicate the connection attempt in progress. When the ‘Disconnected’ message
appears, the Expansion kit Chrono-thermostat is correctly paired to the
Gateway on the second zone of the system;
– press the ‘Reset’ button on the Gateway until the ‘Cloud’ LED will flash
twice per second;
– press the button on the wireless relay. When the LED on this device stops
flashing, check that the Cloud’ LED on the Gateway flashes quickly for about 3 seconds, the wireless relay will be correctly paired to the Gateway on the second zone of the system. If the
Cloud’ LED does not flash quickly for 3
seconds, repeat this last point.
1.8.3 Pairing of the Chrono-thermostat and Wireless Relay to the third zone of
the system.
To pair the Chrono-thermostat and Wireless Relay of the Expansion Kit to the
third zone of the system, proceed as follows:
– press and hold the ‘Reset’ button on the Gateway until the indication on the
‘BLE’ LED changes from one blink every 4 seconds to one blink per second;
– press the ‘Reset’ button on the Gateway several times until the ‘BLE’ LED
flashes three times per second;
– with Chrono-thermostat set on the main window, press and hold the same key
for 3 seconds until the “Mode” or “Program” menu appears, then rotate the
Chronothermostat to display the “Settings” menu. At this point, press again
and rotate to select the ‘Diagnostic’ menu, then press to confirm and enter
the same menu;
– press again on the chrono-thermostat, the message ‘Pairing’ will appear to
indicate the connection attempt in progress. When the ‘Disconnected’ message

2. SAFETY MODE SMARTECH PLUS
The ‘safety mode’ function (see further details on the Smartech Plus kit
instruction sheet) is not necessary and therefore absent for Chrono-
thermostats supplied in Smartech Plus Expansion kits.

3.2 Description of the LEDs on the Gateway (not
supplied in the Smartech Plus Expansion Kit).

Indicates that the Gateway is powered properly. This LED must always be on steady and green.
It signals the Bluetooth connection of the Gateway with the Smartech Plus chrono-thermostat:
· 1 flash every 4 seconds: it means that
communication between the Gateway

and the Chrono-thermostat is established

correctly;
· 5 flashes per second: it means that the
Gateway is trying to connect to the chrono-
thermostat, if this warning is frequent, try
to bring the Gateway closer to the chrono-
thermostat or vice versa..

complex situation with one direct zone and 2 mixed zones. For zones control
unit supplied in the V2 zones control unit kit, connect the number of pumps,
mixing valves and low temperature flow probes necessary for your system. For
DIM Erp or boilers with zones control unit as per standard, the zone actuators
are already wired at the factory depending on the model chosen.

3.3 Bluetooth communication quality check. On each Chrono-thermostat it is
possible to check the quality of Bluetooth communication with the Gateway by
following the procedure below:
– With the chrono-thermostat set to the main window, press and hold for 3
seconds until the ‘Mode’ or ‘Program’ menu appears;
– Turn the chrono-thermostat until the ‘Settings’ menu is displayed, then
press to confirm;
– Turn again to select the ‘Diagnostic’ menu, then press to confirm.
On the displayed page, the ‘Signal Strength’ field indicates the quality of
Bluetooth transmission between the Gateway and the Chrono-thermostat. It is
recommended to use this indication when looking for the proper position of the
devices. The indications provided are as follows:
– Excellent: stable and strong signal.
– Good: stable signal.
– Poor: weak signal, the two devices should be moved closer.
– Disconnected: signal quality is insufficient, move the two devices closer.
N.B.: the maximum communication distance between Gateway and Chrono-thermostat
is 10 metres in open field. The maximum actual distance might be shorter if
there are walls, ceilings or obstacles between the two devices.
