About the device
ELKO – Smart Water Heater Puck
The Smart Water Heater Puck (hereinafter referred to Water Heater/Puck) is intended for switching loads (up to 3000 W) such as a hot water tank or a socket outlet. In combination with the ELKO Smart app, the energy consumption can be measured and if necessary the load can be shed. Automatic module switch-off in case of load shedding or demand response request as well. Up to 10 modules can be added to the same system.

Pairing the device
Using the ELKO Smart app, pair your device with the ELKO SmartHub to access
and control the device. You can either add the device manually or do an auto-
scan to pair it.

Pairing device manually
You can pair the each individual device to ELKO system manually with or
without installed code.
1. On Home page, tap +.
2. Tap , select ELKO SmartHUB on the slide-up menu and tap Done. 3. Select
any one of the options to add device (A):

device. After scanning or entering the install code, proceed to Step 7.

6. Select any one of the options to add the device: Short press the
setup/reset button 3 times (<0,5 s) on the puck with a screwdriver. Short
press the push button 3 times.
The LED blinks Yellow. NOTE: If the puck is located behind the push button,
the status LED is not visible.
7. In the app, select Confirm the indicator is blinking and tap Start
Configuration (C).

Pairing device with auto scan
Pairing the device with auto scan automatically discovers the device when the
corresponding device is powered on. Also helps yo to pair multiple devise at
the same time.
1. On the Home page, tap + > Auto scan > Confirm. 2. Enable permissions to
Access location and Wi-Fi for scanning device and
tap Start scanning. NOTE: If you have multiple hubs, do Step 3 or proceed to
Step 4.
3. Tap Select hub and select the ELKO SmartHub from the slide-up menu. Wait
for a few seconds until the device search is complete.
4. Tap Next (A) and select Water Heater.

5. Short press the Setup/Reset button or short press the push button 3 times
(< 0,5 s) and wait for a few seconds until the device search is complete. The
LED blinks yellow. TIP: If you want to pair multiple devices at once, perform

6. On successful pairing, assign a room and then tap Done.

Configuring the device
Changing the device location
You can change the device location using the ELKO Smart app. 1. On the Home page, select the device for which you wish to change the location.
2. At the top-right corner of the screen, tap .
3. Tap edit next to the device name. 4. Tap Location. 5. Select the desired
location from the list (A) and then tap Save.

Managing device settings using ELKO Smart app
Using the ELKO Smart app, you can manage the Water heater settings.
To access the settings: 1. On the Home page, tap All devices > Water Heater.
2. On the device control panel page, tap Settings.

Identifying the device
When you have multiple water heater, you can to identify a particular device
to configure.
1. In Settings page, tap Identify (A). 2. Tap OK on the pop-up notification
panel when the device is identified.
NOTE: The green LED on the identified device blinks for 30 s.
Renaming the device
You can rename the device according to your preference. 1. In Settings page,
tap Name > (B). 2. Enter new name and then tap Save. NOTE: A device name
cannot be entered as “Grid” or repeated. 3. In setting page, tap Save > OK to
confirm the changes.
Setting nominal power
Nominal power is the maximum power the heater can manage. Setting this will
enable you to use the energy optimization feature.
1. In Settings page, tap Nominal power > (C). 2. Enter power value based on
the connected heating unit and then tap Save.
NOTE: The power value should range from 0 to 3000 W. 3. In setting page, tap
Save > OK to confirm the changes.

Managing tariff information
You can add tariff information in the ELKO Smart app to enable smart schedule.
Refer Setting up a schedule, page 21.
NOTE: To access your energy cost and billing data, you must install SmartTag
in your home.
To add tariff information:
1. Tap on the home page. 2. Select Home Management and select your home where
the energy device is
installed, to view Home Settings. 3. On Home Settings page, select Tariff >
Electricity.
You can view and update the following in electricity menu: A. Contract
options, page 16 B. Tariff Zone, page 17 (Only available for spot price rate
contract option) C. Subscription type, page 17 D. Rates, page (Not available
for spot price rate contract option) E. Schedules, page 18 (Only available for
time of use contract option)

Setting contract options
You can update flat and peak rate based on your contract option in the ELKO
Smart app.
1. Tap My Contract Options on Electricity page.
2. In the slide-up menu, select any one of the following (A):
Time of Use (Peak/Off-Peak Hours): rate set to a specific period of time at
which consumption is at its highest. It is the amount you pay for each unit of
electricity consumed for the time period set.
Flat Rate: fixed rate for the entire time period of electricity consumption.
Spot Price Rate: standard hourly rate of electricity consumption as per
tariff zone. No Contract: electricity rate is not set, no information
related to bill will be
shown in the app.

The Control Panel of the Water heater allows you to view the current state of
the device and allow you to access the history, schedule, and settings. On the
Home page, tap All devices > Water Heater to access the control panel. On the

Operating the device manually
When the Water heater is connected to a mechanical push button, the connected
devices can be controlled manually by short pressing the push button.
NOTE: When the Water heater is installed inside the wall box, the status LED
is not visible.
Operating the device using app
Using the ELKO Smart app, you can turn on/off the heater remotely. 1. On the
Home page, tap All devices.
2. In Water Heater tap on (A) to turn on/off.

Setting up a schedule
The device can be fully controlled by schedule. Once the schedule is set, the
device operates at a given time.
NOTE: When the gateway loses internet connectivity, the schedules will be
suspended until the gateway’s internet connection is restored.
To access the schedule mode:
1. On the Home page, tap All devices > Water Heater. 2. On the device control
panel page, tap Schedule.

You can select No Schedule (A) option if you don’t wish to run the heater
according to a schedule and you can control your devices instantly whenever
you like.
Selecting Smart Control (B), ELKO System will choosing when to switch your
device ON based on the lowest electricity tariff. Prerequisite: To enable
smart control, you must first add tariff. Refer tariff information, page 15.

Customized schedule
You can create your own schedule to turn on/off the heater. Multiple schedules
can be added based on your needs.
To add schedule: 1. In schedule mode, select Customized schedule (C) and then
tap Add Schedule. 2. In Add Schedule menu, set the time (A). NOTE: The
Schedule works according to the time zone where the device is located. 3. Tap
Repeat (B) to select the days you want to set the schedule. 4. Tap Note (C),
enter the note and tap Confirm. 5. Tap the toggle switch (D) to turn on the
Notification for the schedule. The app will send a notification that the
scheduled task is executed at the scheduled time. 6. Tap Switch (E) and select
an option, On or Off.

7. Tap Save. TIP: If you have created a schedule for your device to be turned
on for an hour at 6 PM, you will need to create one more schedule for it to be
turned off at 7 PM.

schedule list, tap on the one you want to edit.
2. Edit details and then tap Save. To delete schedule: In schedule list,
press and hold the schedule for pop-up message and then tap Continue.

Checking energy consumption
Using the ELKO Smart app, you can monitor the energy consumption by accessing
the history.
1. On Home page, tap Energy Dashboard > History. or
In the Home page, tap All devices and select Water Heater > History.
2. On the History page, select a required time frame (A): Hours: to view
the hourly consumption. Days: to view the daily consumption. Months: to
view the monthly consumption. Years: to view the yearly consumption.

delay, temperature, etc.) to change the settings. TIP: · You can add one or
more actions using . · To delete an existing action, slide the each item
towards left and tap Delete.

delete and then tap . 2. Tap Delete and then tap Ok. NOTE: After deleting a

Example: If you set condition as Spot Price > 2 kr/kWh, your actions (defined
in next step) will run when price goes above 2 kr/kWh. 9. Tap Add task to open

12. Once all the actions and conditions are set, tap Save. Once the
automation is saved, it is visible on the Automation tab. You can tap the
toggle switch on the automation to enable it.
Example of an automation
This demonstration shows you how to create an automation to turn on the Water
heater when the outdoor temperature is less than 18 °C .
1. Go to Automation > + to create an automation.
2. Tap to enter the name of automation and tap Save. TIP: You can choose the
cover image that represents your automation by tapping .
3. Tap Add Condition > When weather changes > Outdoor Temperature.

4. Select the outdoor temperature value (A), the condition (B) and tap Next.
TIP: You can set the outdoor temperature value as 18 °C and the condition as <
(less than).

Once the automation is saved, it is visible on the Automation tab. You can tap

Editing an automation
To edit an automation: 1. On the Automation tab, locate the automation you
want to edit and tap . 2. On the Edit page, you can tap each item (such as
dimmer, shutter, delay, temperature, etc.) to change the settings. TIP: · You
can add one or more actions using . · To delete an existing condition or
action, slide each item towards left and tap Delete.
Deleting an automation
To delete an automation: 1. On the Automation tab, locate the automation that
you want to delete and then tap . 2. Tap Delete and tap Ok. NOTE: After
deleting an automation, the device action can no longer be triggered.

Removing the device
Using the ELKO Smart app, you can remove a device from the device list. 1. On the Home page, tap All devices > Water Heater.
2. Tap to display more details. 3. Tap Remove and Factory Reset Device (A).

TIP: On the Home page, tap and hold the Water Heater to remove the device.
NOTE: · Removing the device will reset the Water heater.
· If there is a problem while pairing or resetting the Water heater, refer to
Resetting the device manually, page 34.

Resetting the device

You can reset the device to factory default manually.
1. Short press ( <0,5 s) the Setup/Reset button 3 times and then long press
the Setup/Reset button once for 10 s to reset the Water heater to factory
default mode. or Short press the push button 3 times a nd then long press the
push button once for 10 s.
2. After 10 s, LED starts blinking red then release the Setup/Reset button.
NOTE: All configuration data, user data, and network data are deleted.
The LED stops blinking upon successful reset of the device. The Water heater
restarts and blinks green for a few seconds.

LED Indications
Pairing
User Action Press the Setup/Reset button 3 times
LED Indication Status LED blinks yellow, once per second.
Status
Pairing mode is active for 30 seconds. When pairing is completed, status LED
glows green for some time before turning Off.
Resetting
User Action Press the Setup/Reset button 3 times and hold it for > 10 s.
LED Indication After 10 s, status LED starts blinking red.
Status
The device is in reset mode. It is reset to the factory settings after 10
seconds. The device then restarts and the status LED starts blinking green
before turning Off.
Troubleshooting
Symptom The Water heater has gone offline.
Unable to join to the ELKO Smart HUB (blinking red LED)
Possible cause
Solution
· The Water heater is not On.
· The Water heater is no longer in signal range of the Hub.
· Turn the Water heater On and Off.
· Move the ELKO Smart HUB closer to the Water heater.
· Poor signal between the ELKO Smart HUB and Water heater.
· The devices have no power (Water heater / ELKO Smart HUB/ Wi-Fi® network).
· Rejoin the Water heater in the app.
· Turn on the devices power (Water heater/ELKO Smart HUB/ Wi-Fi® network).
