MERCEDES NTG 5.0 system

  • The interface is connected via a connecting cable with sockets. It is estimated that it takes about 30-45 minutes of work to connect the interface.
  • When purchasing the interface, we take care of the correct settings. No programming is required.

Tools Needed

  • Torx screwdriver (T20)
  • Tip: Use a thick towel to avoid damaging the center console.

INSTALLATION STEP

Step 1. Turn off the ignition

  • By turning off the ignition, there is no more power on the radio, and the cables can be safely disconnected and connected.

Step 2. Remove the left and right air vents

  • The ventilation grilles are secured with four clamps. Pull out the air vent with a hook while helping with a spatula. Do not place the hook behind movable parts but behind the edge of the unit. The ventilation grilles can be very jammed.

Step 3. Remove the display

  • Peel off the cover behind the display and remove the two torx screws. Pull up the display and place it on the dashboard.

Step 4. Remove the front panel

  • Remove the torx screw in the left and right holes of the ventilation unit. Unclip any light strip from the panel and leave it connected to the wiring on both sides.
  • Disconnect the plug from the radio and the plug from the hazard light. Gently pull off the front panel. Be careful not to damage the points.

Step 5. Remove the radio

  • Place a cloth over the control panel to prevent damage.
  • Unscrew both torx screws of the radio a little so that the levers are loose. Pull the levers, the radio will now come forward in its entirety. Be careful not to let the screws fall.

Step 6. Connect the black power block

  • Disconnect the large black power block from the multimedia unit by pressing the tab of the plug, pressing the lever down slightly, and then pulling. The power block will then come out on its own.
  • Transfer (if present) the two optical cables (usually colored orange).
  • Remove the optical plug by pressing the tab and gently pulling the plug with the orange or green optical cables out of the power strip.
  • Press the optical plug into the other lever power strip in the same position. Caution: (orange or green) optical cables do not kink or damage!
  • Enclosing optical plug (if equipped)
  • Push out the tab in the red circle with a small pointed object and pull out the optical plug.
  • In accordance with the old position, transfer this plug to the new black power strip that will be placed on the radio.
  • After that, connect the original plug to the socket of the interface.

Step 7. Connect the video cable to the interface

  • Plug A has a double cable and goes on the interface. Pull the video plug out of the radio’s blue video port (DSP labeling)
  • press the tab on the bottom of the plug) and connect it to the socket B of the interface’s video cable. Reconnect plug C of the video cable to the radio.

Step 8. Pull the AUX cable to the USB port

  • Unscrew the right side panel at the front (1 torx screw behind cover) so that there is some space. Pull up the rubber mat of the center console and unscrew both screws.
  • You can now lift the center console slightly. Drill a hole for the AUX cable to feed through and, using auxiliary tools, pull an AUX cable from the USB port to the space behind the radio. Push the AUX cable away from behind the side panel.
  • Connect the AUX cable to the AUX-USB adapter and plug the adapter into the USB media playback port (top port).

Step 9. Place the antenna

  • Stick the Wi-Fi antenna in a free space against plastic (not metal or the interface itself).

Step 10. Connect all cables

  • Connect all cables to the interface (antenna, power supply, USB, video plug A) in such a way that the interface can be mounted under or behind the radio. Check that no cables get stuck in case the radio is pushed back.
  • The cable with a USB plug (for charging, music, and video playback from a USB stick) can be concealed. This is usually not used. Alternatively, you can also route this cable to the storage compartment (a USB extension cable may be required).

Step 11. Assemble the Interface

  • Connect all cables to the interface. For the most part, place the interface underneath the radio so that the original cable can still fall behind it. Push all other cables away from the left rear in the available space. Press the radio gently.
  • Note: Push the cables away and make sure they cannot get trapped. The large black power strip takes up a lot of space. Press it deep into the left rear left.

Step 12. Test the system

  • Test the system on at least the following points.
  • Graphical representation
  • sound (put MEDIA on USB-AUX)
  • Switching between radio and interface (press the back button for 1-2 seconds)
  • Gear in reverse
  • ring
  • Depending on the type of system, switching between OEM and interface is done via the BACK button or the button with the asterisk (press and hold)
  • For sound, the radio must first be set to AUX-USB (Media).
  • Check the position of the dip switches in case something is not functioning properly. After changing a dip switch, the power must be drawn from the unit (power plug out/in).

Step 13. Rebuild the system

  • Screw on the radio and mount the front panel in reverse order. When installing the front panel, make sure that any light cable is positioned correctly.

Step 14. Connect the interface to your phone

  • Disconnect the bluetooth connection from the MERCEDES. Connect to the Bluetooth of the Carplay interface and turn on Wifi and Carplay on your phone.
  • The interface itself builds up a Wi-Fi connection via the Bluetooth connection. The system is ready. Then connect the phone to the Mercedes again via Bluetooth.
