PPE Heavy Duty Cast Aluminum Engine Oil Pan
Installation Guide
-
Step 1. Vehicle off. Engine cool. Completely drain oil. Overnight, if possible.
-
Step 2. Remove skid plate, crossmember, then unbolt and support front differential. Lower and secure front differential for easier stock pan removal and installation of larger PPE pan.
-
Step 3. Remove and retain stock bolts.
-
Step 4. Locate lower, passenger-side bell housing bolt. Remove bolt and save. To make room for the larger pan, the bolt length will be trimmed in later steps.
-
Step 5. Pry away stock pan from mating surface, using caution for remaining oil. Remove stock pan.
-
Step 6. Thoroughly clean mating surface of all old silicone gasket material. Wipe oil off oil pickup.
-
Step 7. Disconnect transmission coolant lines and secure, up and out of the way, clearing enough room for installation. Tie off lines with a rag.
-
Step 8. Apply silicone sealant to panmating surface and around bolt holes.
-
Step 9. It is very important not to smear the sealant while installing the new pan. It is recommended you have help in locating the dowel pin, which indexes the pan in the proper position. Starting from the rear, angle the pan over the differential as shown. Tip the back of the pan to level, being careful of the sealant. With a spotter’s help, lift the pan up into its indexed position, using the dowel as reference. Once in position, install two factory bolts on each side (middle) to secure the pan. Finger-tighten bolts to hold pan in position.
-
Step 10. Install remaing bolts and torque to 8-10 ft. lbs, starting from the center of the pan and working outward. At this time, check drain plug and NPT plug to be sure they’re tight.
NOTE: Allow at least one hour for silicone to set up. -
Step 11. Check and mark bell housing bolt for trimming. Use a cut-off wheel to trim excess. Reinstall bolt and torque to manufacturer spec.
-
Step 12. Reassemble front differential and torque to manufacturer spec. Reinstall transmission coolant lines, crossmember and skid plate. Fill engine with recommended oil. Check for leaks. Top off transmission fluid if necessary. Installation complete.
