Introduction
This digital ear thermometer is specifically designed for safe use in the eardrum. This digital ear thermometer is a device capable of measuring body temperature by detecting the intensity of infrared light emitted from the ear canal. It converts the measured heat into a temperature reading displayed on the screen. When properly used, the device will quickly assess body temperature in an accurate manner.
Caution! Please read instructions carefully and thoroughly before using the device
Note
- This thermometer is intended for home use only, and it is not meant to replace a professional medical evaluation. Please consult your doctor if you have any concern about your health.
- There is no gender nor age limitation for using this device.
- To avoid inaccurate readings, always use a new, clean sensor cover for each temperature reading.
- Do not expose the thermometer to extreme temperatures (below -25°C/-13°F or over 55°C/131°F) nor excessive humidity ( >95%RH).
- This thermometer must only be used with original thermometer sensor covers.
- Keep the battery away from children.

Instructions for use
-
To achieve accurate readings, make sure a new, clean sensor cover is in place before each measurement. Place a new sensor cover on the sensor firmly, making sure the sensor and the inner portion of the sensor cover fit snugly. To ensure proper hygiene and to avoid contamination, a new sensor cover should be applied for each user.
-
Press the ON/OFF switch. The LCD screen will appear as shown in Figure 2. Wait for the acoustic signal and the screen to change to setting shown in Fig.C. The thermometer is now ready for a new measurement.
Note: The symbol indicates that this thermometer must be only be used with original sensor covers, other-wise the accuracy of readings will degrade significantly. -
Place the sensor snugly into the ear canal. Make sure the sensor tip faces the eardrum as shown in Fig.D. Press the TEST Button. The thermometer will emit a long beeping sound for approximately 1 second. When the beeping sound is over, the result of the measurement will be displayed on the screen.
-
The thermometer is ready for testing again once the ear symbol displays on the screen. A waiting period of 20 seconds between testing is recommended to ensure complete accuracy.
-
The thermometer will shut off automatically after 60 seconds of inactivity. To prolong battery life, press the ON/OFF switch to turn the device off.
Temperature measurement hints
-
The temperature reading may differ from ear to ear, it is therefore advisable to always measure the temperature in the same ear.
-
Make sure that the ear is always free from obstructions or excessive earwax.
-
External factors may influence ear temperatures such as:
Laying your head on one ear or the other
Covering the ears for a long time
Having been exposed to very high or very low temperatures
Having been recently swimming or bathing
In these cases, remove the individual from the situation and wait 20 minutes before measuring the temperature. -
People wearing hearing aids or ear plugs must remove the devices and wait 20 minutes before measuring the temperature.
-
When using the thermometer on infants under age of 1, pull the ear up making sure the sensor faces the eardrum. (See Figure E)
-
When using the thermometer on individuals over the age of 1, pull the ear back making sure the sensor faces the eardrum. (See Figure F)
-
Do not touch the sensor tip. A cotton swab and rubbing alcohol may be used to clean the sensor tip.
-
If thermometer is stored in a significantly different environment than testing location, place it in the testing location for approximately 30 minutes prior to use.
Memory mode
-
The Memory Mode can be accessed in two ways:
a) After turning the thermometer on and waiting for the screen setting as shown in Figure 3, press and hold the ON/OFF switch. The letter “M” will appear in the upper left corner of the display. (See Figure G)
b) After measuring the temperature, press and hold the ON/OFF switch for a few seconds until the letter “M” appears in the upper left corner of the screen. -
The thermometer will automatically memorize the last 10 temperature readings. Each time the ON/OFF switch is pressed, the screen displays past readings that correspond with a number 1-0. The number 1 reflects the most recent reading while the number 0 reveals the oldest reading stored in memory. (See Figure H)
-
In the memory mode, the ear symbol is always displayed on screen. To take a new measurement, simply press the TEST Button.
Setting of temperature scale
- Temperature readings are available in Celsius (°C) or Fahrenheit (°F) scale.
- With the device off, press and hold the ON/OFF switch and continue holding until either °C or °F is displayed on screen as shown in Figure 9.
- To change this setting to a different scale, release the ON/OFF switch and wait 1 second until screen displays data as shown in Fig.C.
- Press the ON/OFF switch once and the device will turn off.
- After the device has shut off, press and hold the ON/ OFF switch again until the new scale appears.
- Release the ON/OFF switch and wait 1 second, the unit is now ready for a new measurement in the selected scale.
CARE AND CLEANSING
-
Sensor covers are intended for single use only. Absent, damaged, perforated, or soiled sensor covers can lead to inaccurate temperature readings.
-
The sensor tip must be kept clean, dry, and undamaged at all times to ensure accurate readings. The accuracy of temperature readings can be affected by damage to the probe window, or the presence of dirt and ear wax on the probe window.
-
Fingerprints, earwax, dust and other soiling compounds reduce transparency of the sensor tip and result in lower temperature readings. If the thermometer is accidentally placed in the ear without a sensor cover installed, the tip must be cleaned immediately.
-
The sensor tip is the most delicate part of the thermometer. To safely clean the tip, gently wipe its surface with a cotton swab slightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol and immediately wipe dry with a clean cotton swab. After cleaning, allow at least 5 minutes drying time before measuring temperatures.
Note: Do not use any chemical other than isopropyl alcohol to clean the sensor tip. -
Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the thermometer display and exterior.
-
The thermometer is not waterproof. Do not put the device in water when cleaning.
-
Store thermometer and sensor cover in a dry place, free from dust and contamination and away from direct sunlight.
-
Periodic cleaning and disinfection of the device following use are essential to prevent patient cross infection.
-Use a soft cloth slightly moistened with a 70% isopropyl alcohol solution to disinfect the thermometer and sensor. Do not use abrasive cleaners. -
Ensure that children do not use the device unsupervised; some parts are small enough to be swallowed.
-
Strong electromagnetic fields may interfere with the proper operation of the thermometer.
Do not use this thermometer close to sources of strong electromagnetic radiation.
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
- Replace battery when the symbol appears in the upper right corner of LCD screen. (See Figure 10)
- Slide battery cover down as shown in Figure M.
- Remove battery as shown in Figure N.
- Replace with one new battery(CR 2032) with “+” side facing up.
- Dispose exhausted battery according to applicable local laws and regulations.
- Slide battery cover back on.
