SAFETY

NOTE: When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following: READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS VACUUM CLEANER.

WARNING! To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury:

• Do not use outdoors or on wet surfaces.
• Do not leave vacuum cleaner unattended when plugged in. Turn off the switch and unplug the electrical cord when not in use and before servicing.
• Do not allow to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used by or near children.
• Use only as described in this manual. Use only the manufacturer’s recommended attachments.
• Do not use with damaged cord or plug. If vacuum cleaner is not working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, contact Uline Customer Service.
• Do not pull or carry by cord, use cord as a handle, close door on a cord, or pull cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run vacuum cleaner over cord. Keep cord away from heated surfaces.
• Do not use extension cords or outlets with inadequate current-carrying capacity.
• Turn off all controls before unplugging.
• Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.
• Do not handle plug or vacuum with wet hands.
• Do not put any object into openings. Do not use with any opening blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair, or anything that may reduce airflow.
• This vacuum cleaner creates suction and contains a revolving brush roll. Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of the body away from openings and moving parts.
• Do not place cleaner on furniture or stairs as the brush roll may cause damage.
• Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches or hot ashes.
• Do not use without dust bag in place.
• Belt pulleys can become hot during normal use. To prevent burns, avoid touching the belt pulley when servicing the drive belt.
• Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.
• Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids such as gasoline or use in areas where they may be present.
• Store your cleaner indoors in a cool, dry area.
• Keep your work area well lit.
• Unplug electrical appliances before vacuuming them.

CAUTION! THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE GROUNDED. If it should malfunction or break down, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electrical current to reduce the risk of electric shock.
NOTE: The appliance is equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding conductor and grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.

ASSEMBLY

ASSEMBLY PACKET
The assembly packet is with the owner’s guide. The packet contains three machine screws, one machine bolt, and nut to fasten the handle and bag assemblies to the container.

CAUTION! Fully assemble the vacuum before using.

1. Move the handle assembly to the upright position. Insert lower handle assembly (18) into handle socket (12). Secure with the 2 short screws. (See Figure 1) Route the cord through the sets of cord locking tabs on the lower handle assembly.

2. Slide the carry handle (15) into the switchbox (17) and secure with bolt in the bolt opening. Slide the upper handle (13) into switchbox and lower handle assembly until the hole for the bolt aligns with the hole in the carry handle. (See Figure 2)

3. Unzip the center panel of the outer bag and secure by placing the rear bag inlet over the air duct in the lower handle ­ make sure the upper tab on the rear bag inlet rests on the switchbox (17).

4. Install the bolt and nut assembly through the carry handle (15), upper handle (13) and rear bag inlet. Tighten with bolt entering from the back of the carry handle. Secure the lower portion of the the rear bag inlet to the lower handle assembly (18) with the remaining screw. (See Figure 3)

5. Place dust bag collar on the tabs of the dust bag flange and rotate up until the tabs of the flange fasten into the dust bag cover. Tuck the bottom of the dust bag into the lower portion of the outer bag. (See Figure 4)

6. Secure bag cap (9) on the top of the outer bag (11). (See Figure 5)

7. Pull dual zipper connector (10) to bottom of the bag cap (9). (See Figure 6) Insert the clip on the end of the dual zipper connector (found in accessory pack) through the eyelet of the zipper on the outer bag. Insert the clip on the other end of the dual zipper connector to the remaining zipper eyelet.

8. Attach the extension cord to the other end of the cord lock and secure to side of vacuum. Fasten with the cord lock. (See Figure 7)

USE AND MAINTENANCE

HANDLE ADJUSTMENT

1. With the tip of the foot, press down on the hood while moving the handle backwards to adjust to the desired position. The unit can lay completely flat for cleaning under low furniture. (See Figure 8)
   POWER SWITCH

2. The power switch is located on the left side of the switchbox. The on/off switch is marked with international symbols, (-) means on, (o) means off. Press down on the front of the switch to turn the cleaner on, press down on the back of the switch to turn the unit off. (See Figure 9)
   MAINTENANCE
   CAUTION! Turn off the switch and unplug the electrical cord before maintenance.
   CHANGING THE DUST BAG
   WARNING! Never operate the cleaner without the dust bag.

3. Grasp the top of the outer bag and pull dual zipper connector down to the bottom of the outer bag. Release the bag cap by smoothly lifting up and rotating it towards the front of the bag. (See Figure 10)

4. Pull the dust bag collar forward and remove the dust bag. Place new dust bag collar on the flange and rotate up until the tabs of the flange fasten into the holes of the dust bag cover. Tuck the bottom of the dust bag into the lower portion of the outer bag. Replace the bag cap and pull up on the dual zipper connector to secure the front of the outer bag. (See Figure 11)
   HOW TO REPLACE A WORN BELT OR BRUSHROLL
   CAUTION! Belt pulleys can become hot during normal use. To prevent burns, avoid touching the belt pulley when servicing the drive belt.

5. Release the cam lock and remove the bottom plate. (See Figure 12)

6. Lift up on the brush roll, disconnect other end of belt from motor pulley and remove the worn belt. (See Figure 13)

7. Place new belt around the brush roll. Align brush roll pulley with the belt guide in the base. (See Figure 14)

8. Make sure rubber end caps are secure in place on the sides of the brush roll. Align end caps with slots in the cleaner base so that the two arrows are pointing down. Push the brush roll down into the base. (See Figure 15)

9. Place the lower side of the belt into the belt guide and pull to stretch the belt around the left side of the motor pulley. (With front of vacuum facing you) Rotate the brush roll two times to the center of the belt and align it into the groove. (See Figure 16)

10. Align three slots towards the front of the bottom plate over the tabs on the front of the base. Make sure front inserts are securely connected to the bottom plate. Push the bottom plate down over the grooves that are on the base. Secure the bottom plate with the cam lock. (See Figure 17)

NOTE: Improper installation of the brush roll or the brush roll belt could cause carpet or cleaner damage.

ROUTINE MAINTENANCE

DAILY

1. Check Dust Bag ­ Before each use, check the dust bag and empty if nearly full.
2. Belt Condition ­ Check the belt for signs of wear. Change the belt when it is loose or has cuts or cracks. Refer to the diagram on the underside of the base for proper installation of belt and brushroll.
3. Supply Cord and Plug ­ Check supply cord and plug for any cuts or damage. If damaged, have the supply cord and plug assembly replaced by a qualified Sanitaire repair center.
4. Motor ­ If there are unusual sounds or if poor performance occurs, the motor should be inspected immediately by a qualified Sanitaire repair center.

WEEKLY

1. Cloth Dust Bag ­ Inspect the dust bag assembly for any unusual wear. Replace bent clips, stretched springs or a worn bag with genuine Sanitaire replacement parts.
2. Brushroll Bristle Strips ­ Check the bristles for wear once a week. The bristle strips should be replaced when the bristles are less than 1/4 inch in length.
3. Brush Roll Condition ­ Check for and remove any loose material, such as string or hair wrapped around the brushroll.

MONTHLY

1. Cleaning ­ Inspect and clean the vacuum, including the fan chamber and under the hood.
2. Electrical ­ Inspect the cord assembly for wear and check for proper handle assembly.
3. Handle ­ Check the handle assembly for tightness and replace handle bolts if missing.
4. Motor ­ A qualified Sanitaire repair center should make a routine check of the motor every 6 months. Inspect the motor immediately if there are any unusual sounds or if poor performance occurs.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Vacuum turns off while in use.| 1. The machine may turn off due to overheating.
Vacuum has a burning smell.| 1. The belt may be damaged or something may be caught in the brush roll.
2. Check brush roll for obstruction.
3. Replace belt.
