OVERVIEW OF CONTROLS

SAFETY

NOTE : Read all instructions thoroughly before using this product.

The infrared forehead thermometer measures core body temperature, which is the temperature of a body’s vital organs. (See Figure 1)

It is specifically designed for safe use on the forehead. It measures body temperature by detecting the intensity of infrared light emitted from the forehead and converts the measured heat into a temperature reading displayed on the LCD. This product is intended for the intermittent measurement of human body temperature by people of all ages. When properly used, it will quickly assess temperature in a timely manner.

WARNING! This product is not intended as a substitute for consultation with a physician.

Do not allow small children to take their own temperatures unsupervised. There are small parts that can be swallowed.
Never immerse in water or other liquids.
Do not modify this equipment without authorization from manufacturer.
Do not expose thermometer to temperature
extremes (below -13ºF or over 131ºF) or excessive humidity (>95%RH).
Keep the battery away from children.
Remove battery from device when not in operation for a long time.

OPERATION

REAL TIME CLOCK SETTING

When using thermometer for the first time, set time functions. With thermometer off, press and hold the power on/off button for three seconds to enter setting mode.

SET THE TIME FORMAT

The device can display the time in either an AM/PM (12-hour) or 24:00 (24-hour) format. With the preferred time format on the display, press the the power on/off button . The hour format flashes automatically. (See Figure 2)

SET THE HOUR

Press and release the start button to advance one hour until the correct hour appears. (See Figure 3) After the hour is set, press the power on/off button , the minute figure flashes automatically.

SET THE MINUTE

Press and release the start button to advance one minute until the correct minute appears. After the minute is set, press the power on/off button , the year figure flashes automatically. (See Figure 4)

SET THE YEAR

Press and release the start button to advance one year until the correct year appears. (See Figure 5) After the year is set, press the power on/off button , the month figure appears.

SET THE MONTH

Press and release the start button to advance one month until the correct month appears. After the month is set, press the power on/off button , the date figure flashes automatically. (See Figure 6)

SET THE DATE

Press and release the start button to advance one day until the correct day appears. (See Figure 7) After the day is set,
press the power on/off button to exit the setting mode.

TEMPERATURE-TAKING HINTS

To ensure that the reading always reflects body temperature accurately, note the following factors that may affect an accurate reading:

Know each individual’s normal temperature when they are well. This is the only way to accurately diagnose a fever. To determine normal temperature, take multiple readings when healthy. Re-measure with a standard digital thermometer for confirmation.
Users and the thermometer should be in the same ambient temperature for at least 10 minutes before taking a reading.
Users should not drink, eat or be physically active such as bathing, showering, shampooing and hair drying before/while taking the measurement.
Oils or cosmetics on the forehead may give a lower temperature reading than the actual one. Remove dirt from the forehead before taking a measurement.
Do not hold a hand on the forehead for any length of time.
Do not take temperature over scar tissue, open sores or abrasions.
Do not use the thermometer on a perspiring or sweating forehead.
Do not take a measurement while or immediately after nursing a baby.
Thermometer is intended for home and clinical use.
Do not take temperatures near places that are very hot, such as fireplaces and stoves.
Do not touch the probe window. The probe window of the thermometer is the most delicate part of the device. The accuracy of the reading may be affected if the probe window is damaged or dirty.
If thermometer is stored in a significantly different environment than testing location, place it in testing location for approximately 30 minutes prior to use.
It is not intended for use in oxygen rich environments or in the presence of flammable anesthetic mixture with air, oxygen or nitrous oxide.

SELECTING A TEMPERATURE SCALE

Temperature readings are available in the Celsius (ºC) or Fahrenheit (ºF) scale. (See Figure 8)
With the thermometer off, press and hold the start button for three seconds to enter unit changing mode.
Press and release the start button to select the unit.

When the preferred unit appears on the display, press the power on/off button to exit unit changing mode.

CHANGING MODES

Press the forehead mode/object mode button to witch between forehead mode and object mode.

FOREHEAD MODE

Press the power on/off button . The display is activated to show all segments. After self-checking, the start up screen appears on the display screen with beeps, indicating that a new measurement can be started. (See Figure 9)
Aim the thermometer at the center of the forehead with a distance of 2-3 cm and then press the start button.

NOTE: Do not remove the thermometer from the forehead before hearing the final beep. A waiting period of three seconds between testing is recommended to ensure complete accuracy.

Read the temperature on the display.
Press the power on/off button to turn off.

BACKLIGHT

The display will turn green for three seconds with a happy face when the unit is ready for measurement and when a measurement is completed with a reading less than 99.1ºF.
The display will turn yellow for three seconds with a happy face when a measurement is completed with a reading less than 100ºF.
The display will turn red for three seconds with a sad face when a measurement is completed with a reading equal to or higher than 100ºF.

OBJECT MODE

Press the power on/off button to turn on the thermometer. User can take the object temperature after two beep sounds. (See Figure 11)
Aim the thermometer at the center of the object to measure with a distance of 1-2 cm.
Press the start button, and then read the temperature on the display.
Press the power on/off button to turn off.

AFTER MEASUREMENT

Device will automatically shut off if left idle for more than one minute to extend battery life.
Clean probe after each use to ensure an accurate reading and prevent cross-contamination. See the Care and Cleaning section on page 5 for details.

MEMORY MODE

The memory mode can be accessed in either mode.

When the thermometer has been turned on or finished testing, press and hold the power on/off button for three seconds. The letter M will appear in the center right corner of display. (See Figure 12)
The thermometer will automatically memorize the last 10 temperature readings. Each memory also records the measurement date/time/mode icon. Each time the power on/off button is pressed, the screen displays past readings that correspond with a number 1-10. Number 1 reflects the most recent reading, while number 10 reflects the oldest reading stored in memory. (See Figure 13)
In memory mode, the forehead mode mark and object mode mark always exist. User can press the start button to take new measurements.

CARE AND CLEANING

Probe window must be kept clean, dry and undamaged at all times. Accuracy of temperature readings can be affected by damage to the probe window, the presence of dirt, fingerprints, earwax, dust and other soiling compounds on the probe window. Degraded sensors can reduce performance or cause other problems.
Periodic cleaning and disinfection of the device can prevent patient cross-infection. Clean and disinfect thermometer immediately after use.

CLEANING

Soak a clean, soft cloth in drinking water, wring it out dry and then wipe the thermometer (including probe) no fewer than three times.
Use another clean soft cloth to wipe the thermometer dry.
Put the thermometer in the original packaging.

DISINFECTING

Soak a clean, soft cloth in drinking water, wring it out dry and then wipe the thermometer (including probe) no fewer than three times.
Use another clean, soft cloth to wipe the thermometer dry.
Using a clean, soft cloth dipped in 70% medical alcohol, wipe the probe three times, at least one minute for each time.
Using a clean cotton swab dipped in 70% medical alcohol, wipe the sensor window three times.
Wait at least 10 minutes to let the alcohol evaporate and then put the thermometer in the original packaging.
Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the thermometer display and exterior.
The thermometer is not waterproof. Do not submerge the unit in water when cleaning.
Store in a dry location, free from dust and contamination and away from direct sunlight.
Strong electromagnetic fields may interfere with the proper operation of thermometer. The device needs special precautions regarding EMC according to the EMC information.
Store thermometer in original packaging after use.

BATTERY REPLACEMENT

Replace battery when the battery low symbol appears in the upper right corner of LCD display. (See Figure 13)
Slide battery cover down as shown. (See Figure 14)
Remove battery and install two new AAA alkaline batteries.
Slide battery cover back on. (See Figure 15)
