ADJUSTING THE TEMPERATURES AND FUNCTIONS

oceanic OCEAFC244W Refrigerator fig 4

Thermostat knob
Your appliance has one control for regulating the temperature. The temperature control is located at the top of the appliance.
The first time you put your appliance into operation, set the thermostat to 4 and let it run empty for 4 hours before storing food for it to cool sufficiently.
The temperature control ranges from position “1” (the warmest) to position “7” (the coldest). Adjust the temperature control to the setting that best suits your needs. Setting 4 should be appropriate for home or office refrigerator use.
To turn the appliance off, turn the temperature control to “0”.
Appliance thermostat has 7 settings. The appliance assures that the temperature is maintained as long as it is in operation and used in normal conditions of use. The temperature inside the appliance can be influenced by many factors, including ambient temperature, sun exposure, the frequency with which the door is opened, and amount of food stored. Slight changes in temperature are normal.

  • Settings 1-2: fridge compartment average temperature of 8 to 11 °C, freezer compartment average temperature <=-15 °C
  • Settings 3-4: fridge compartment average temperature of 5 to 9°C, freezer compartment average temperature <=-18°C
  • Settings 5-7: fridge compartment average temperature <=4°C, freezer compartment average temperature <=-20 °C

NOTE:

  • Turning the temperature control to the “0” position stops the cooling cycle but does not shut off the power to the appliance.
  • If the unit is unplugged, loses power or turned off, wait 3 to 5 minutes before restarting the unit. If you attempt to restart before this time delay, the appliance will not start.
  • If you choose to change the thermostat setting, adjust the thermostat control by one setting at a time. Allow several hours for the temperature to stabilize between adjustments.

The combination of drawers, baskets and shelves that result in the most efficient use of energy for the appliance is the default configuration after you open the package.

FOOD CONSERVATION
Carefully wrap fresh foods to ensure that they keep their flavor, color, moisture and freshness. This also prevents the taste of some foods contaminating the taste of others. Only vegetables, fruit and salad vegetables can be stored in the vegetable compartment without being packed. Let hot dishes and drinks cool down outside the appliance. Remove the cardboard packs from around yoghurt pots. Check the consume-by dates on the products you have bought.
Store raw meat and fish in suitable containers in the refrigerator, so that it is not in contact with and cannot drip onto other food.

ARRANGING FOOD IN YOUR REFRIGERATOR
The temperature inside your refrigerator is not uniform. Some areas are colder than others, and you must store your food in the appropriate areas according to their type to ensure that they can be kept safely.
Leave a space between food items to allow the air to circulate freely and prevent different products contaminating each other.
Do not put packages and food in contact with the wall at the back of the appliance; this is a particularly cold and damp area of the appliance and water droplets and frost condense there as part of your refrigerator’s normal operation.
The coldest area, at the bottom of the fridge, is designed for delicate, sensitive and highly perishable food such as meat, poultry, fish, cooked meats, prepared dishes, ready-made salads, egg or cream based dishes and pastries, fresh pasta, pastry, pizza/quiches, fresh produce and raw milk cheese, ready-to-use vegetables sold in plastic bags and, more generally, any fresh product whose consume-by date is linked to its storage at a temperature of +4°C or below.

If the food cannot be stored in a suitable area and at a proper temperature, it might perish.

The following symbol shows the coolest zone in the refrigerator. This zone is between the fruit and vegetable glass shelf and the symbol, or the shelf located at the same height. To guarantee temperatures in this zone, do not modify the positioning of the shelves.
Temperature indicator installation
To help you set your refrigerator, it should be equipped with a temperature indicator which will help to control the average temperature in the coolest zone.
CAUTION: this indicator is set to work with this refrigerator. Do not use it in another refrigerator or for another purpose.
Temperature check in the coolest zone
This indicator allows you to check that the temperature in the coolest zone is correct. The temperature inside the refrigerator differs according to several factors such as the ambient temperature, the quantity of food loaded in the refrigerator and the frequency with which the door is opened. Take these factors into consideration when setting the temperature of the appliance.
When the indicator reads OK, it means that your thermostat is set correctly, and that the indoor temperature is correct. If there is no color on the indicator, this means that the temperature is too high. In this case, increase the setting of the thermostat and wait for a while before performing another visual check of the indicator. After loading or opening the door, the indicator may show no color for a while.

FROZEN AND DEEP-FROZEN FOOD
Your domestic appliance can be used to freeze food, as it lowers the core temperature of the food rapidly, allowing you to keep it for longer.
This appliance with a four-star freezer compartment is suitable for the long- term storage of frozen food items. It can also be used for freezing and storing fresh food items. Always follow the storage guidelines printed on the food packaging. To avoid food waste, the following information is provided as a general guide for the maximum storage life of frozen items:
We suggest you use at least thermostat setting 4.

  • Fresh meat and poultry – up to 12 months
  • Cooked meats – up to 2 months
  • Fresh fish – up to 6 months
  • Fruit and vegetables – up to 12 months
  • Bread and cakes – up to 6 months

PREPARING FOOD FOR FREEZING
Freezing does not sterilize. It is therefore important to observe some simple hygiene rules. When preparing your food for freezing, wash your hands before touching the food and clean the kitchen tools you have just used before using them again.

Only freeze fresh, good quality food. Refer to the “Food Freezing Guide” to know which products you can freeze and how long you can keep them.
Blanch fruit and vegetables (plunge them in boiling water for few moments) before freezing to preserve their color, smell, taste and vitamins.
Divide the food you wish to freeze into small individual portions. Small portions freeze quicker at their core.
Pack the food hermetically so that they do not lose their flavor or dry up. Use plastic bags, polyethylene film, aluminum foil or special freezer containers for this. If you are using plastic bags, compress them to eliminate the air before sealing them hermetically.
Note on each package:

  • The freezing date
  • The consume-by date
  • The type of food contained
  • The number of portions contained

If you are purchasing deep-frozen food, pick it up last when you are shopping.
Check that: The packaging isn’t damaged
They are not covered in a layer of frost (which means that they have partially defrosted). Pack them in an isotherm bag or in newspaper. Transport them quickly and store them immediately. Comply with the maximum storage dates shown on the packaging. Your appliance has a **** freezer compartment, which enables you to store deep-frozen food.
