PETZL PICCHU-4 Climbing and Mountaineering Helmet
Field of Application
This equipment is personal protective equipment (PPE) for the head, used for
protection against falling objects and impact while cycling.
Helmet for climbing, mountaineering, and other vertical sports using similar
techniques.
Helmet for cycling.
Do not use this helmet in activities for which it is not designed. Wearing a
helmet can significantly reduce the risk of head injury, but does not ensure
protection against all impacts. In a major impact, the helmet deforms to
absorb the maximum amount of energy possible, sometimes to the point of
breaking the helmet.
This product must not be pushed beyond its limits, nor be used for any purpose
other than that for which it is designed.

Before using this equipment, you must:

Inspection, points to Verify
Your safety depends upon the integrity of your equipment.
Petzl recommends a detailed inspection by a competent person at least once
every 12 months (depending on current regulations in your country, and your
conditions of usage). Warning: your intensity of use may cause you to inspect
your PPE more frequently. Follow the procedures described at Petzl.com. Record
the results on your PPE inspection form: type, model, manufacturer contact
info, serial number or individual number, dates: manufacture, purchase, first
use, next periodic inspection; problems, comments, inspector’s name and
signature.
Before each use
Before each use, check the condition of the shell (no cracks or deformation on
the inside or outside of the shell…), of the straps and stitching, of the
headband attachment system, and check that the headband adjustment system and
chinstrap buckle are working properly. Warning: a major impact to the helmet
can reduce its protective properties (impact absorption, strength) without
leaving visible signs of damage. Retire your helmet after a major impact.
- As with all helmets that have a chinstrap, children should not use this helmet in situations where the helmet may becomes next as this poses a risk of strangulation by the chinstrap.
- No helmet can protect against all possible impacts and serious injury or death can occur. For maximum protection the helmet must be fitted and attached properly to the whereas had in accordance with the manufacturer’s fitting instructions. The helmet main, after receiving an impact, damage to the point that it is no longer adequate to protect the head against for the impacts, and that is damage may not be visible to the user. Helmet that has sustained as an impact should be returned to the manufacturer for inspection, or be destroyed or replaced. A helmet can be damaged by contact with common substances and that this damage may not be visible to the user. Only wash your helmet with wipe with mild soap and water and specific product made for cleaning ABS and EPS.
How to Put on and Adjust Helmet
To ensure adequate protection, this helmet must be adjusted to properly fit
the user’s head. See the diagrams on adjustment and the function test.
Do not use this helmet if you are unable to adjust it to fit properly. Replace
it with a different size or model of helmet.

Petzl.com. When to retire your equipment:
WARNING: an exceptional event can lead you to retire a product after only
one use, depending on the type and intensity of usage and the environment of
usage (harsh environments, marine environments, sharp edges, extreme
temperatures, chemicals…).
A product must be retired when:
- It is over 10 years old and made of plastic or textiles.
- It has been subjected to a major fall or load.
- It fails to pass inspection. You have any doubt as to its reliability.
- You do not know its full usage history.
- When it becomes obsolete due to changes in legislation, standards, technique or incompatibility with other equipment…
