Inspection, points to verify
Your safety depends upon the integrity of your equipment.
Petzl recommends a detailed inspection by a competent person at least once
every 12 months (depending on current regulations in your country, and your
conditions of usage). WARNING: your intensity of use may cause you to inspect
your PPE more frequently. Follow the procedures described at
Petzl.com. Record the results on your PPE inspection
form: type, model, manufacturer contact info, serial number or individual
number, dates: manufacture, purchase, first use, next periodic inspection;
problems, comments, inspector’s name and signature.
Before each use
Verify that the rope adjuster has no deformation, cracks, marks, wear,
corrosion… Check the rope and the safety stitching: look for cuts, cut or
loose threads, wear and damage due to use, to heat, to chemicals…
During use
It is important to regularly monitor the condition of the product and its
connections to the other equipment in the system. Make sure that all items of
equipment are correctly positioned with respect to each other.
Beware of any pressure or rubbing on the rope adjuster that can cause unblocking.
Compatibility
Verify that this product is compatible with the other elements of the system in your application (compatible = good functional interaction).
Equipment used with your PROGRESS ADJUST lanyard must meet current standards in your country (e.g. EN 362 carabiners).
The VERTIGO TWIST-LOCK is recommended for use at the end of the lanyard.
Am’D, WILLIAM and OK have also been tested and are compatible. If using any other connector, carry out a compatibility test (correct installation and functioning, and check for any possibility of poor positioning).
Preparation
Install a locking connector on the fixed arm and in the rope adjuster on the adjustable arm. Verify that the connector is correctly installed in the rope adjuster (see diagram).
You can install the positioning ring on the rope adjuster’s connector to help prevent incorrect positioning.
Attach the lanyard to the harness using a RING OPEN, SWIVEL OPEN, a quick link (EN 362 class Q) or an OMANI carbine. Make sure the connector is properly locked.
Function principle and test
Extending the lanyard: tilt the rope adjuster to allow the rope to run.
Shortening the lanyard: pull on the reserve rope.
Work positioning: adjust the length of the adjustable arm to keep it taut. In order to block, the rope adjuster must be free to pivot on the connector.
Precautions for use
Do not use a work positioning belt if there is a foreseeable risk of the user becoming unintentionally suspended or exposed to uncontrolled tension by the waist belt.
Keep your lanyard taut; stay below the anchor.
The PROGRESS ADJUST-Y lanyard must not be used for fall arrest. The work positioning system helps support the user; it may be necessary to supplement the work positioning system with a fall-arrest system.
This lanyard is not designed for making girth hitches.
Before starting work, if you think there is a risk of the lanyard coming into contact with a sharp edge, be sure to take appropriate precautions.
Any force applied directly between the two lanyard ends can damage the connection point stitching and endanger the user.
WARNING: any other equipment attached to the same connector as the rope adjuster (a foot loop, for example) can cause the rope adjuster to malfunction.
