Ropes
The SHUNT works on single or doubled EN 892: 2016 or EN 1891: 1998 type A
rope:
- 8 to 11 mm: use two strands of the same diameter rope
- 10 to 11 mm: you can use a single strand of rope
Warning: certain ropes can be slippery and reduce the SHUNT’s braking effectiveness, for example new ropes, ropes with sheath treatments, wet, frozen, or muddy ropes…: do a function test.
Connector
Make sure that the connector is always loaded on its major axis.
Working principle
The SHUNT slides along the rope. If the cam is loaded, it pinches the rope in
the rope channels and the device locks on the rope. The cam and the frame must
always be able to rotate freely.
Warning: any pressure or interference on the cam, or on the device, will
prevent it from locking.
Do not grip the SHUNT with your entire hand.
Installing the SHUNT
Installation methods.
Function test: during installation, verify that the device locks on the rope
in the desired direction.
Uses
Rappel backup:
Attach the SHUNT below your descender.
Unlocking under load:
Pull on the rope below the SHUNT and align it with the axis of the rope.
