Samson QEx Fitness Headset Microphone

Samson QEx Fitness Headset Microphone

Introduction

A water/sweat resistant condenser capsule on the QEx headset microphone guards against corrosion caused by prolonged exposure to moisture. The bidirectional pickup design reduces feedback and filters out externally undesirable inputs. The QEx can endure 110dB of sound pressure levels, so when you project your voice into it, the mic won’t stutter. The QEx comes with four adapter cords that allow it to work with the majority of common wireless mic systems and transmitters. The adapters have locking connectors for a snug and secure connection, and they are detachable. Along with the four adapter cables, the QEx also comes with a windscreen to lessen P-pops and wind noise. Additionally, a carry case is included for storing and moving the microphone and all of its parts between classes.

FITTING THE QEX MICROPHONE

For added comfort and fit, the QEx headset includes an adjustable headband. To fit the headband, pull elastic strap over the ear hooks and locate in front of the stop point (A). For larger sizing, the headband can be moved behind the stop point (B) or completely removed by sliding the elastic band over the ear hooks and microphone capsule.

NOTE: When removing the headband, first take off the microphone windscreen.

CONNECTOR CABLES

To connect the cable to the headset:

  • Choose the right cable and connector that works with your wireless system.
  • Line the cable up to the threaded terminal on the back of the QEx and screw the cable into the headset.
  • Do not over tighten the cable.
  • Attach the included collar clip on the back of your shirt collar and run the mic wire from the QEx Fitness Headset to the wireless body pack. Leave enough cable to allow you to turn your head from side to side.

MIC POSITIONING

The correct way to wear your QEx fitness headset microphone, is over the ears, as you would wear a pair of eyeglasses. To avoid feedback problems, take care not to cover the microphone capsule with your hand.

NOTE: If wearing glasses, it is recommended to put the QEx microphone on first than place glasses over the microphone.

Position the QEx microphone element about 0.25” – 1” behind the corner of your mouth. To avoid breath noise and p-pops, use the included windscreen.

If the microphone is too far away from your mouth you will need to increase the gain and reduce isolation.

To minimize additional noise, do not locate the microphone tight against your cheek.

USING THE QEX

The QEx Fitness Headset employs noise canceling techniques to provide noise reduction, improve clarity and gain before feedback. These techniques allow the QEx to be used in environments and facilities where the sound system might not be optimal. First, the small size of the microphone capsule and the short distance between the microphone and the mouth reduces the sensitivity at 1 kHz for far field noise by 10 db. And noise at lower frequencies is additionally attenuated. Finally, the bi-directional polar pattern reduces signal coming from a 90° angle by 15 dB compared to signal originating from directly in front of the mic capsule.
