After unpacking the unit, confirm that it has not been damaged during transit. Keep the packaging away from children if it contains plastic bags or other potentially hazardous components.

  • This product is able to connect to a smartphone. Therefore, when drafting this manual, we assumed that the user has acquired the basic skills necessary for using  smartphones. The setup and use of this radio is very similar to the use of telephones and tablets. Certain telephone settings may require deeper knowledge and an understanding of English. In the first part of the manual, we are going to describe the individual use of the device without a mobile phone. The radio can be used as a fully-equipped device even without a telephone.

  • Before starting to use the player, read these instructions carefully, then keep them in an accessible place for future reference.

  • Seek professional assistance if necessary to prevent damaging the unit or motor vehicle!

  • Depending on the compressed files, the MP3 compression program used, and the quality of the USB/SD memory, anomalies may occur during playback, which are not due to the unit malfunctioning. The playback of copy righted DRM files is not guaranteed!

  • Do not store any additional files on the USB/microSD device other than playable files, because they can slow down or interfere playback.

  • Do not connect mobile phone, navigation … with charging purpose to the USB socket!

  • Do not store data storage in the vehicle if it is exposed to freezing or extremely high temperatures!

  • While underway, do not do anything that distracts your attention from driving. Handling the player while driving can result in accidents. Spend the minimum time watching the display!

  • Do not listen to the player too loud. Set a volume that allows you to hear external sounds while driving. Extreme volumes can also cause permanent damage to your ears!

  • Do not disassemble or remake the player, as that can cause fire, accidents, or electric shock. Incorrect use or installation renders the warranty void.  Only for use in cars with a 12 V battery and a negative ground. Using the player for any other purpose can result in electric shock, damage, or fire. The player was designed exclusively for use in vehicles!

  • Always use melting fuses with the proper values. When replacing a fuse, make sure that the new fuse has the same nominal value as the one you are replacing. Using a different fuse can cause fire or damage.

  • Do not block the player’s cooling vents, as that can cause its circuits to overheat, resulting in fire. Install the player properly to ensure adequate ventilation. The air vents around the edge must be left free.

  • Make sure to connect the player correctly. Incorrect connections can result in fire or other defaults.

  • Prior to wiring/ installation, be sure to remove the car battery’s negative terminal connection! This will prevent any electric shock, short circuit, or malfunction.

  • While installing the player never cut through cables or damage their insulation. Doing so can result in a short circuit and fire!

  • Before drilling holes or inserting screws into your vehicle’s body make sure you do not damage tubes or electric wires on the other side of the cover…

  • Do not connect to any electric systems of your vehicle that operate steering, brakes, or any other safety function. Doing so can result in loss of control over the vehicle, and can cause fire.

  • Do not install the player or its accessories in a location where they can prevent you from controlling the vehicle safely, e.g., nearby the steering wheel and the gear shift.

  • Make sure that wires do not coil around neighboring objects. Arrange cables and wires in a way that does not hinder you in driving. Wires that interfere with your movement or hang over the gear shift, the brake, etc. can be extremely dangerous.

  • In case of any malfunction, turn off the player immediately and consult your distributor. Many malfunctions are very easy to detect (e.g., no sound, bad smell, smoke, an external object inside the product, etc.).

  • Make sure that no external objects get into the USB socket or the memory card slot, as these can cause fatal damage.

  • Protect it from dust, damp, liquids, heat, moisture, frost, and impact, as well as direct heat or sunlight!

  • When leading the connection cables make sure that their insulation does not get damaged by any sharp metal objects nearby!

  • Do not connect any cables when the device is working. Never turn on the system with the volume at the maximum level! Cracking or other noise impact occurring at that time can immediately damage the speakers irreparably!

  • The warranty is not applicable to damage caused by irresponsible or improper installation or use!

  • Only for use in cars with a 12 V battery and a negative ground. Using the player for any other purpose can result in electric shock, damage, or fire. The player was designed
    exclusively for use in vehicles!

  • Due to continuous improvements, the technical data and design may change without any prior notice.

  • The actual instruction manual can be downloaded from the www.Somogyi.hu website.

  • We don’t take the responsibility for printing errors that may occur and apologize for them.

    – In case of connecting noise reduction, place it as far as possible from the unit, in case of noise reduction connection.

CONNECTING SPEAKERS

In some cases, increasing the volume will not proportionally increase the bass level. This is dependent on the number of speakers used and their positioning, moreover, a speaker in the vehicle might also be wired out of phase.

  1. When two front speakers are used:
    • Reverse the +/- polarity of either the right or left front speaker (the wires leading to either speaker should be reversed anywhere between the radio and the speaker).

  2. When four speakers are used:
    • A., If both the front and rear speakers, are built into the doors (or otherwise isolated from each other, such as in a sound box), then the polarity of either speaker in both the front and rear should be reversed.
    • B., If the front speakers are built into the doors but the rear speakers are built into the hat rack panel, then only the polarity of either front speaker should be reversed. The rear speakers’ wires should remain unaltered.

THE PRODUCT IS NOT A TOY. KEEP IT OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
THIS PRODUCT INCLUDES A BUTTON BATTERY. IT IS FORBIDDEN TO SWALLOW THE BATTERY, OF THE RISK OF CHEMICAL BURN. IN CASE OF  INGESTION, IT MAY CAUSE A STRONG INTERNAL BURN WITHIN 2 HOURS AND MAY LEAD TO DEATH. KEEP THE NEW AND USED BATTERIES OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. • When listening to music on higher volume, do not emphasize significantly high and low tones, as this may cause distortion!

LOUDNESS – PHYSIOLOGICAL TONE ADJUSTMENT
The human ear perceives less of low and high-frequency sounds at smaller volumes. By turning the LOUDNESS function on, at low volume, automatic tone adjustment depending on volume, will correct this effect. The lower the volume, the higher the bass and treble frequency boost. It is recommended to switch off this function at a higher volume, since it may cause distorted sound.

  • In order to get better sound quality, before using this function it is recommended to choose the EQ OFF setting and set the equalizers to the „0” position.
  • The larger the volume, the less noticeable effect on the automatic tone correction.

SETTING THE CURRENT TIME

  • If there is an external unit connected to the USB and SD slot at the same time, then the USB or SD option can be selected with the MODE button. Basically, SD card is recommended to use, because of its safe location.
  • After connecting external data sources, tracks from the last inserted one will be played.
  • Being switched on again, playing of the last listened track will continue if the connected device has not been removed in the meantime.

USING THE RADIO
After the unit is switched on the radio will turn on if it was being previously listened to – or the last played USB/SD signal source has been removed. If necessary, use the MODE button to select the radio function.
SELECTION FROM THE STORED RADIO STATIONS
Select desired band with the BAND button, (e.g. F1), then select the desired program with 1…6 number keys. Totally 18 FM radio stations can be memorized/stored.
MANUAL TUNING AND STORING OF RADIO STATIONS
If you know the exact frequency of the program wanted to be heard or you would like to perform fine-tuning of the previously set program, then the use of manual tuning is recommended. Select one of the F1-F2-F3 FM bands with the BAND button on the front panel (F1 is recommended). Keep pressing stepping forward of back buttons for 2 seconds, till the MANUAL (manual tuning) label is readable. Following that, the frequency can get stepped with the repeated brief pressing of stepping forward or back buttons. Tuning will step up or down by 0,1 MHz on the band with every press of buttons. After the desired radio station has been tuned, keep holding one of the buttons from 1 to 6 to store it. A number of selected storage places will appear on the right edge of the display (1…6). Stored programs can be selected by the number keys. The actual FM band and included storage place is readable on the display. E.g.:
F2-P6 means 6. program on FM 2 band.

  • If you do not press any button for 3 seconds, then the radio will return to automatic tuning after displaying the AUTO label – this is the default setting.
  • Totally 18 FM radio stations can be stored on FM1-FM2-FM3 bands. 6 – 6 stations can be stored in any case. If you choose the 4th storage place of FM2 band, then you have to select FM2 band first (BAND), after press the 4. number key..
  • If one storage is place is already used, then the content will be deleted, and a new station frequency will be stored.
  • If the unit is being used at a distance from the original tuned location – such as when traveling – the same station might have to be tuned in again on a different frequency. The same program is broadcast on different frequencies in different geographical locations!

AUTOMATIC TUNING AND STORING
Keep the AMS button pressed for 2 seconds for automatic searching and storing of radio stations can be received at the place of use. The process of tuning and
storing can be followed on the display. All receivable frequency will be controlled. The better the conditions for reception, the more stations will be found.

  • Take into consideration that unit will skip stations with weaker reception, and the stations may be stored in a different sequence than what you have defined.

  •  Select manual tuning and storing in order to perform custom settings.

  • After a brief pressing of AMS, a few minutes long introduction is audible from all programs of the stored radio station. The introduction function can be
switched off by repeated pressing of the AMS button or pressing the number of selected programs.

  • In the case of stations with a strong signal, select the STEREO (ST) mode in the menu. If the reception is weak and the signal is noisy, select the
MONO setting with the help of the dial.

  • In case of weak receiving conditions, switch off LOC (local, strong reception) function, with the rotating knob in the menu and activate DX (long-distance reception) mode.

PLAYBACK FROM USB/SD/ STORAGE
If you wish to listen to music from a USB/SD source instead of listening to the radio, simply connect to the external storage. The unit will detect this and start playback automatically. USB or SD denomination is visible on the display for a few seconds. In case the MP3 file contains text information then the unit will display them.

„ID3 TAG” MP3 TEXT INFORMATION
Besides the elapsed time of the track, the number of tracks, the total number of tracks, and the name of including folder, related information of track will be displayed, if they had been recorded, when the MP3 file was created.

  • The displayed indicator will change automatically. The text information can generally contain the following data: the name of the file, the title of the song, the name of the performer, the title of the album, and the location of the file on the storage media (e.g. ROOT).
  • Labels will appear only when the MP3 file contains such ones. This kind of text information can be associated with given tracks, while the MP3 file is created. If the file doesn’t have such accompanying information or not all displayable data is recorded, then they won’t appear on the display.
  • Occasionally, you may find that certain characters appear incorrectly or not at all. This is mainly affected by the special or accented characters and not the fault of the device. ID3 Tag function may be affected by the MP3 file creator program and its settings. If different tracks were created by different compressing programs and have different settings, then displayable text information may differ by track. Unique features of external storage may cause irregular operation, which doesn’t indicate fault!

AVAILABLE FUNCTIONS OF MP3/WMA PLAYER:
: play or pause
: press the buttons briefly to reach the previous or next track. If you are keep holding them, a quick search will start in the song, while the speakers are muted.
-10: stepping back x 10 tracks / keep holding: handling folders

  • If the unit cannot recognize the files or one part of them, is copied on the external storage, then proceed as described in the previous paragraph, or you can insert the USB unit to the device which is already switched on; at that time the system will read in and update the entire content of it.
  • Remove the storage only, when you switched to a source different from USB/SD/TF memory or the device has switched off! Otherwise, the data can get injured.
  • It is forbidden to remove the connected external storage during playback!
  • By inserting the memory unit, playback will start from the first track. If you have listened to it previously, and it hasn’t been removed, then the playback will continue from the last played track, even if the device has been switched off in the meantime…
  • USB and SD units can be inserted only in one way. If it would get stuck, turn it over and try again, do not force!
  • Pay attention to the storage device, extending from the device so as not to disturb you in safe driving, and do not shove or break it! It is recommended to use an SD card preferably since it can be used more safely.
  • If you leave the external storage in the vehicle in extreme hot or cold, it can get injured.
  • Unique features of the external storage can cause abnormal operation, this is not a malfunction of the unit!

USING WIRELESS BT FUNCTIONS
The device can be paired with other equipment which is communicating by BT protocol, within maximum 10 meters operation range. After that, music that is played by mobile phones, tablets, notebooks and other similar device is audible amplified through the car speakers. THE MOBILE APPLICATION: CarMedia
An (English-language) application needs to be installed on an Android smartphone, then the basic setup of the application has to be completed and all access permissions granted (data security permissions), which are required for the smooth cooperation of the two devices. The list of these permissions can be found in the app store, in the description of the program. Access permissions may be required for example for the following: appearance on the top, location data, media content, storage media, BT pairing, and settings, preventing sleep mode… Newer phones are equipped with stricter and stricter data protection measures. Without these permissions, the cooperation of the devices cannot be guaranteed! Certain buttons or functions may not work and the application may crash and require a restart unless all necessary permissions are granted. If you do not agree with this, please do not use the device with the application, only as a traditional car radio. The available functions and the necessary permissions may change with each update. Wirelessly (BT) connecting a mobile telephone with the required specifications and settings to the device, the handling of the radio becomes more comfortable and new functions become available. The radio can be used as a fully-equipped device even without a telephone. The menus can generally be displayed in portrait and landscape mode as well. When writing this manual, we took into account the latest software version, which is continuously improved by the third-party developer. We are unable to show the required permissions because those differ from device to device. Look for the following pictogram by entering the word ‘CarMedia’ in the Google Play Store: Install the CarMedia application on your Android mobile phone.

Requirements when this manual was written:
An Android telephone with Android 4.0.3. or above.
ATTENTION! In addition to the name (model) of the car radio, another BT device with the same name but with the extension ‘APP’ will also be visible in the BT connections menu of the telephone. Both connections must be active between the car radio and the telephone. One of them provides audio transmission, while the other (APP) provides remote control and data connection options. After launching CarMedia, check the SETTING menu to see if the secondary connection, car radio (APP), is active. The text ‘CONNECTED’ must be visible next to it. The ‘DISCONNECT’ button ends the pairing. The ‘SCAN’ button found at the bottom of the page scans for nearby BT devices. Or you can pair the devices here in the telephone’s own BT menu.
Key functions of some audio sources:
RADIO

volume (its function is identical to that of the floating volume control) / scan for stations, store them, and provide descriptions of them / jump back or forward / stereo-mono setting/wavebands; F1-F2-F3 FM bands
WIRELESS BT CONNECTION

jump back or forward / play and pause (controls the music player of the mobile telephone)
USB AND SD CARD MUSIC PLAYER

repetition mode / jump back or forward / play and pause / playlist
AUDIO EQUALIZER (EQ)

selecting EQ options / the current graphical EQ frequency curve / stereo space (balance and fader) settings based on the position of the listener/delete, default equalizer
with the help of the floating volume control, the speakers can be turned on and off and a volume control slider will also appear on the top of the screen; the +/- buttons found on the side of the phone have to be set accordingly and at the same time as well

  • From the current menu, you can return to the main menu using the ‘<’ (back) button.
  • The operation of these functions depends largely on the model and current operating system of the telephone, as well as the installed applications, the current versions of these, and the data protection settings of the phone! The CAR MEDIA application is the product of a third party, the manufacturer of this product has no control over its condition, operation, or development. Therefore, the product manufacturer is unable to guarantee full operation under all circumstances.
  • Certain functions, such as voice assistants, are not available in all geographical regions, depending on the relevant service providers.
  • Without the appropriate data protection permissions, certain functions will not start or the application may crash. The system restrictions must be deactivated (e.g. battery saving mode, launch the application in the background, always on top, etc.)
  • If the image does not rotate when flipping the telephone, check if the image rotation function is enabled on the phone.
