Assembly

(See Fig. A, B, C).
The saw chain sharpener is supplied partly assembled to ensure transport protection.
Please assemble the machine as follows:
7.1 Place the motor assembly on a solid, level surface, e.g. a workbench. Ensure that the base plate (5) extends out far enough over the edge of the workbench so that the saw chain can hang down freely and you can easily access the locking screw (6) at the bottom.
7.2 Tighten both components with the locking screw (6). Turn the locking screw clockwise and hand-tight only.
7.3 Position the base plate on the workbench up to the markings that are beneath the plate (see Fig. C).
7.4 For securely mounting the chain sharpener on the workbench, use the mounting holes (5) on the base plate. Use suitable 6 mm bolts/screws (not included in delivery).
7.5 The saw chain sharpener is assembled and ready for use.

Operation – Adjusting the grinding angle

Before undertaking any adjustment on the device, make sure the device is switched off and the battery is removed.
Before each use check all parts of the saw chain sharpener for proper and correct function as well as for correct mounting.
Especially inspect the grinding disc, all mounting screws and protective devices for firm mounting. Check whether all movable parts can turn freely.
8.1 Open the guide boards (12) by turning the fastening lever (9) counterclockwise. The fastening lever is springloaded. Pull out and at the same time rotate the lever counterclockwise. The fastening lever can be positioned in the desired direction after releasing the lever (see Fig. D).
8.2 Lift the chain stop (10) backward and insert a chain to be sharpened between both guide boards (12). Make sure the saw chain can move freely between the guide boards (see Fig. E).
8.3 If you know the exact filing angle of the saw chain, turn the angle indicator for vice angle (7) to the desired angle (see Fig. F). Loosen the locking screw (6) and turn the scale according to the desired angle. Afterward, re-tighten the locking screw.
If you do not know the exact filing angle of your saw chain, position the angle indicator (7) to 35°. Position the grinding disc (14) as shown (see Fig. G). Common chains have a
filing angle of 25°, 30° or 35°.
Inspect the saw chain for the most worn-out cutting tooth and start sharpening this tooth. The most worn-out cutter is important in order to sharpen all other cutters to the same depth.
8.4 Fasten the chain with the fastening lever (9). Turn the chain stop (10) forwards and pull the first cutting tooth against the chain stop (see Fig. H).
8.5 Fix this position of the chain stop (10) with the chain stop adjusting screw (11a) and re-tighten the locking screw (11b) (see Fig. I).
8.6 Make sure the motor is switched off. Pull down the grinding disc (14) up to the end in the direction of the first cutting tooth by using the handle (1). Make sure the adjusting screw for depth stop (4a) is touching the depth stop platform (13) (see Fig. J).
8.7 For fine-adjustment of the saw chain position, use the chain stop adjusting screw (11a). If the position is correct, fix this position with the locking screw (11b) (see Fig. I).
8.8 Adjust the max. sharpening depth with the adjusting screw for depth stop (4a) and fix this position with the locking screw (4b) (see Fig. A).

Operation – Grinding the cutters

9.1 Insert the battery into the battery recess. Do not force the battery while inserting.
9.2 To switch on the machine, press the ON switch “I” (3a). Pull down the handle (1). When sharpening, always wear protection goggles. Carry out the first trial grinding.
9.3 To switch off the machine, press the OFF switch “0” (3b). Always wait for the grinding disc to come to a standstill before proceeding with the work! Never reach into the rotating grinding disc.
9.4 Inspect the saw chain for the most worn-out cutting tooth and start sharpening this tooth. The most worn-out cutter is important in order to sharpen all other cutters to the same depth. Mark the first sharpened cutter in a suitable way (e. g. with chalk).
9.5 Loosen the fastening lever (9), lift the chain stop (10) and move the chain so that the cutter after the next one can be sharpened (see Fig. K).
9.6 Secure the chain with the fastening lever (9) and sharpen this tooth. Make sure not to sharpen the cutter too much in order not to damage the body of the cutter! (See Fig. L).
9.7 Sharpen every second cutting tooth in one direction. Then turn the angle of the chain holder assembly (8) to the needed angle in opposite direction (see Fig. K).

Operation – Grinding the cutters on the opposite

Turn the chain holder assembly (8) only when the grinding disc is not moving.
10.1 To sharpen the remaining cutters on the opposite, first switch off the device and pull the battery.
10.2 Loosen the locking screw (6) and turn the chain holder assembly (8) in the opposite direction up to the corresponding angle. Re-tighten the locking screw (see Fig. N).
10.3 Also mark the first sharpened cutter and proceed as stated in the chapter „Operation – Sharpening the Cutters“, in order to sharpen the remaining cutters (see Fig. M).

Notes for the grinding disc to be used

To avoid injuries always use suitable grinding discs that are in proper condition! With the simple sound test you can check the disc for cracks and damages. Hang up the grinding
disc so it can swing freely (e. g. on a thick thread) and knock the disc edge with an object. The disc should give a clear and high pitched sound. If the sound is damped or blank, the grinding disc is defective and should not be used furthermore.
Make sure before carrying out any work on the saw chain sharpener that the battery is removed.
12. Changing the grinding disc
12.1 Switch off the machine and remove the battery!
12.2 Remove the protective cover (2).
Unscrew the 3 retaining screws (see Fig. O).
12.3 Hold the grinding disc (14) firmly with one hand and loosen the flange nut by turning counterclockwise (see Fig. P).
12.4 Replace the grinding disc by a new one.
12.5 Tighten the flange nut by turning clockwise and hand-tight only. Mount the flange nut on the grinding disc from the correct side (see Fig. Q)Please observe the direction rotation on the grinding disc. The direction rotation of the spindle is additionally marked on the grinding disc protective cover (2).
12.6 Mount the protective cover (2) on the machine. Only use grinding discs with an outer diameter of 108 mm and with an inner diameter of 23 mm.
The grinding speed from replacement discs must meet or exceed the rpm rating of the machine.

Set the depth limiter spacing (See Fig. R).

Once the chain has been fully sharpened, you must make sure that the depth limiter spacing is kept. The depth limiters (17) must be lower than the cutting tooth (16).
You may need to file the depth limiters (17) to the specifications for your chain using a file (not included in delivery).
