6. Operation
WARNING
Observe the safety instructions in the respective sections for all activities.
6.1 Using the mini tripod
The tripod can be folded from any position and used as a handle for one-handed
tracking shots. To change the leg angle, the legs must be folded.
To make the leg angle more acute so that the tripod stands higher, turn the
locking ring (8) clockwise until it engages. To set a flatter angle for a
lower and more stable stand, turn the locking ring (8) anticlockwise.
6.2 Using the tripod extension
The tripod extension allows the ball head to be mounted at a greater height
than directly on the tripod. Since it can be adjusted in height, more flexible
working with the camera or smartphone is possible.
Screw the tripod extension (23) onto the 1 /4 inch thread of the tripod and
the ball head (2) onto the thread on the tripod extension. To adjust the
height, open the screw handle (24) and pull the extension to the desired
height. Screw the screw handle (24) tight again.
6.3 Using the ball head
Mounting the ball head on the tripod
Screw the ball head (2) with the threaded bore (11) in the base onto the
threaded mounting plate (6) of the tripod. Make sure that the locking screw
(9) is tightened.
Mounting equipment on the ball head
Mount equipment such as the smartphone holder (3) or a camera by screwing the
mounting plate (10) into the equipment’s bore using the 1 /4 inch thread.
The smartphone holder provides a 1 /4 inch thread in the bottom for this
purpose.
Framing the shot
Adjust the smartphone (or camera) to the desired position by opening the
locking screw (9) of the ball head while holding the mounted equipment. Then
align the smartphone so that the desired picture section appears in the
display of the smartphone mounted in the holder. Make sure that the tripod
does not tip. Now tighten the locking screw again.
Working in portrait format
Use the drop notch of the ball head and tilt the camera from horizontal to
vertical. Make sure that the tripod is standing securely.
6.4 Using the microphone and microphone holder
Slide the microphone holder (4) with the square plate of the base (14) into the cold shoe (15) of the smartphone holder (3). Make sure that the microphone will later face the sound source. Tighten the foot with the locking screw (14). Insert the microphone (5) with the narrowest part into the microphone holder (4). Plug the matching connection cable with the angled plug into the connection socket (12) of the microphone. In case of wind, pull the furry windscreen (25) over the microphone.
NOTE: Mount the smartphone before connecting the microphone cable to it.
6.5 Using the LED light
The LED light (16) provides up to three hours of light on one battery charge.
Use the switch (18) to turn it on or off, the switch (17) allows you to select
the brightness in three levels:
L = Low
M = Medium
H = High
To charge the battery, plug the USB charging cable (28) into the charging port (19). The charging indicator (20) lights up red during charging, after charging is finished it no longer lights up.
As a rule, mount the light on your smartphone. To do this, use the Clamp mount cold shoe (22), which you can attach to your smartphone with the padded screw. You can mount the lamp on the cold shoe located there, see the previous chapter. Of course, you can also mount the microphone there and the light on the smartphone holder (3).
6.6 Inserting the smartphone
The universal smartphone holder grips a wide range of smartphones between 56
and 88 mm wide. To insert a smartphone, proceed as follows:
Detach the smartphone from any cases that might interfere with the mount. Pull
the smartphone holder (3) apart at the ends and insert the smartphone so that
it is held approximately in the middle. The display should face you and not be
covered by the holder. Make sure that the holder grips the smartphone ideally
with its notches and clamps it.
Now connect the external microphone to the smartphone, if you are going to use
it.
7. Tips for use
7.1 Light
You are not forced to mount the LED light close to the camera. Instead, you can illuminate it on the subject from any other directions, even from behind or indirectly. The different lighting creates a different effect each time. Ask another person to hold the light for you in a certain position relative to the camera.
7.2 Sound
The microphone does not have to be mounted near the smartphone either. The cables give you a certain amount of freedom and can also be extended (you can find appropriate cables in specialised shops). A different positioning of the microphone changes the sound recording and enables crucial improvements depending on the recording situation. Use headphones for continuous monitoring of the recording.
7.3 Rehearsals
If you can, rehearse your planned scene and check the recording. This will help you to work towards a good composition and balanced lighting.
For sound-only recordings, do a recording test with the microphone and then check the recording.
8. Transporting and storing the unit
Transport and store the components of the set in a dry and dust-free place.
9. Cleaning
NOTE: Only use the cleaning agents specified in the table below.
