These instructions are intended for installers of PA systems and for users without any specific technical knowledge (chapter 4) . Please  read the instructions carefully prior to installation and keep them for later reference .

Applications

This amplifier with a power rating of 60 W is spe- cially designed for PA systems . Either use 100 V or 70 V speakers or low-impedance speakers (minimum impedance: 4 Ω) . Apart from mains operation, it also allows 24 V operation for mobile applications .

For reproducing  speech  and  music,  up  to 3 microphones and up to 4 other audio sources can be connected . The connection TEL INPUT is available for important (emergency) announce- ments . In addition, a remotely controllable music module with Bluetooth receiver, DAB+/FM radio and audio player for micro SD memory cards/USB flash drives* is integrated .

*Due to the large number of storage device manufac- turers and device drivers, it cannot be guaranteed that all storage media are compatible with the audio player .

Installation

Set up the amplifier on a flat, horizontal surface so that air will be able to flow freely through the air vents on the sides and on the rear to ensure sufficient cooling . Always switch off the ampli- fier before making or changing any connections. After connecting, put the protective caps on the screw terminals to protect you against any accidental contact.

Inputs

To connect a microphone, use the jack CH 1, CH 2 or CH 3 . The input CH 1 or TEL INPUT has highest priority (selectable with DIP switch No . 4), i . e . when a signal is available at one of these two inputs, all other channels will be muted . Set the DIP switches SELECT to the required positions

*Important: When phantom power has been acti- vated, do not connect any microphone or audio unit with unbalanced output signal to the input CH1; the microphone/audio unit may be damaged .

Note: When announcements are being made via the channels CH 2 and CH 3, the signals of the music module and of the inputs CH 4 and CH 5 will be slightly attenuated .

  • To connect audio sources with line level out- put (e . g . CD player, mixer), use the following jacks:
    • RCA jacks CH 4 and CH 5
    • 6 .3 mm jacks CH 2 and CH 3

Note: The  inputs  CH4  and  CH5  are  provided  with  a pair of jacks for the connection of audio stereo sources . The amplifier will create a mono signal from the stereo signal . To connect stereo audio sources to the inputs CH 2 and CH 3, use a stereo/mono adapter (e . g . SMC-1) .

When connecting the audio sources to the jacks CH 2 and CH 3, set the DIP switches 1 and 2 to the position ON (also see table) .

  • For important (emergency) announce- ments, use the input TEL INPUT . It is possible to connect, for example, a telephone system with line level output to this input .

Note: A signal at the input TEL INPUT will mute all other channels . When DIP switch 4 is in the position OFF, however, announcements made via the input

CH 1 will have highest priority and will also mute the channel TEL INPUT .

  • Connect a DAB/FM antenna to the jack ANTENNA . With good reception conditions, the wire antenna provided can be used .
  • If it is necessary to mute the speaker out- puts, connect the two MUTE terminals, e . g . via a switch .

Outputs

  • Speakers: Either connect 100 V or 70 V speakers to the terminals “100V” or “70V” and “COM” (page 2, fig . 1) . The load  by the speakers must not exceed the power rat- ing of the amplifier (chapter 5); otherwise, the protective circuit will interrupt the connection to the speaker terminals .

Or connect a speaker or a speaker group to the terminals “4 Ω”, “8 Ω” or “16 Ω” and “COM” . The total impedance of the speakers must not fall below the value indicated at the terminal used . Figure 2 on page 2 shows various ways to observe the minimum imped- ance . There are, however, also other possi- bilities .

  • At the RCA jacks REC OUT 1 and 2, the mixed signal is available . The control MASTER will not have any effect on the volume of this signal . The jacks can also be used, for example, for a recorder or additional PA amplifiers if more speakers are required than PA-806DAP can handle .
  • The output MOH OUTPUT (music on hold) is able to provide, for example, music on hold for a telephone system . The mixed signal is also available at this output . The control MASTER will not have any effect on the volume .

Power supply

For power supply, either connect the jack  “230 V~” to a mains socket (230 V/50 Hz) using the mains cable provided or, for mobile applica- tions for example, connect the terminals “24V⎓” to a 24 V DC voltage source .

Infrared remote control

Power supply of the re- mote control for the music module is provided by means of a 3 V button cell . If the remote control is supplied with the bat- tery inserted, remove the protective film (to protect the battery against dis- charge) from the battery support: The remote con- trol will then be ready for operation . When pressing a button on the remote control, always point the remote control at the IR sensor above the USB port .

Make sure that there are no obstacles between the IR sensor and the remote control .

If the remote control is not used for a longer period of time, remove the battery as a precau- tion . It may leak and damage the remote control .

Replacing the battery

  • Push the latch of the battery holder to the right (first arrow in the figure below) and re- move the holder (second arrow) .
  • Remove the old battery and insert the new battery (3 V button cell, type CR 2025) into the holder with the positive pole facing upwards .
  • Push the holder back into the remote control .

Operation

  • Before first-time operation, make sure that the initial volume is not too high: Set the control MASTER for the total volume approximately to the position “9 o’clock” . Then switch on the amplifier with the switch POWER . The green power LED ON will light up .
  • Use the controls CH 1– 5 and TEL to mix the signals of the audio sources or to fade them in or out . Set the controls of the inputs which are not used to “0” .
  • Adjust the total volume with the control MASTER . The LEDs “−30, −10, 0 dB,  CLIP”  will indicate the output level . To prevent dis- tortions, only turn up the control MASTER to such a level that the red LED “CLIP” will not light up .
  • Use the controls BASS and TREBLE  to  adjust  the sound .
  • If the LED “PROT” lights up, the amplifier is overheated or overloaded or has a short circuit at one of the speaker outputs . In this case, switch off the amplifier and have the fault eliminated .

When a storage medium is inserted in the music module, the replay will automatically start after the amplifier has been switched on . When two storage media are used, the memory card will take precedence . When no storage medium is inserted, the operating mode most recently used (Bluetooth receiver, digital radio, FM radio) will be resumed (chapter 4 .2) .

Music module

The music module provides the following oper- ating modes:

  • File reproduction from a memory card
  • File reproduction from a USB flash drive
  • Reception from a Bluetooth audio source
  • Digital radio DAB/DAB+
  • FM radio

To switch between the operating modes, briefly press the button MODE on the module or on the remote control .

If no function of the music module is re- quired, the music module can be switched off: either press the button on the remote con-  trol or keep the button MODE/ on the module pressed . When the music module is switched on again via these buttons, the operating mode most recently used will be resumed provided that the amplifier was not switched off with the switch POWER in the meantime .

The following operating options are available irrespective of the operating mode:

Audio player

The audio player can replay files in the MP3 and WAV formats that have been stored on a micro SD [HC/XC] memory card or on a USB flash drive . The files may have been stored in different folders on the storage medium .

Connect a USB flash drive to the jack USB and/or insert a memory card (contacts facing to the right) into the slot MICRO SD
