Completely read through the operating instructions, warranty and Additional Information” booklet as well as the latest information under the internet link at the end of these instructions. Follow the instructions they contain. This document must be kept in a safe place and passed on together with the device.

 Function / application

This measuring device determines the level in steel LPG cylinders (5 kg/11 kg). The level is indicated by a visual signal.

  1. Measuring head
  2. Signal indicator / battery charge low
  3. Battery compartment (rear)

General safety instructions

  •  The device must only be used in accordance with its intended purpose and within the scope of the specifications.
  • The measuring tools and accessories are not toys. Keep out of reach of children.
  • The structure of the device must not be modified in any way.
  • Do not expose the device to mechanical stress, extreme temperatures, moisture or significant vibration.
  • Do not use the device in environments containing explosive gases or vapour.

Dealing with electromagnetic radiation

  • The measuring device complies with electromagnetic compatibility regulations and limit values in accordance with EMC-Directive 2014/30/EU.
  • Local operating restrictions-for example, in hospitals, aircraft, petrol stations or in the vicinity of people with pacemakers – may apply. Electronic devices can potentially cause hazards or interference or be subject to hazards or interterence.

Information on gas cylinders

  • The measuring surface and the surface to be measured of the gas cylinder must be free of dirt, stickers and rust.
  • Observe the safety regulations for handling propane/butane gas cylinders.
  • The measurement is not a substitute for correct residual gas disposal.

Insert battery

Open the battery compartment on the housing’s rear side and insert a 9V battery. Correct polarity must be observed.
The device is ready for use immediately once the batteries have been inserted. It does not have a separate ON/OFF switch and is therefore always active.

Notes on measurement

  •  Steel gas cylinders are normally filled up to 80% depending on the propane/butane mix ratio and the temperature. The measuring device is not suitable for use on plastic gas bottles.
  • ith the exception of 5 kg and 11 kg steel LPG cylinders, the measuring device is suitable only to a limited extent for metal gas cylinders.
  • The measurement can be adversely affected by dirt on the measuring head and gas cylinder. The measuring surfaces should therefore be cleaned with a damp cloth.
  • Possible influencing factors on gas cylinders include
    1. Rust (also invisible areas on the inside)
    2. Uneven/excessively thick coating on the outer wallI
    3.  Ice build-up on the surface
    4.  Dented or scratches surfaces
    5. Radii of upper and lower ends of gas cylinders too small
  • To avoid these factors, the measurement should be carried out at several points in the cleaned central area of the gas cylinder.
  • To avoid sloping liquid levels, the gas cylinder should be as upright as possible during the measurement.
  • It is recommended to start the measurement from the bottom in order to determine the minimum level as fast as possible.
  • The exact level is at the point between the signals, Gas” and,No Gas”.
  • Measurement is not possible on welded seams.

To measure the level

Place the measuring head vertically on the surface of the cylinder and press it down in this position. Hold the measuring head steady during the measurement and only make a slight correction if a negative visual signal (red) is indicated. To avoid damage, do not push the measuring head over the surface. The device switches off automatically if left idle for 2 seconds.
