Removal Instructions:
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.

- Remove the steering wheel nut retainer and nut.

- Make reference marks on the locking plate for correct orientation.
- Remove the wheel locking plate using a lock plate tool to relieve tension.
- Remove the snap ring while the plate is compressed with the tool.
- Remove the turn signal cancelling cam.
- Remove the hazard flasher button.
- Remove the turn signal lever screw and lever.

REMOVAL/INSTALL OF IGNITION LOCK (924-892)
General Motors 1996–91, General Motors 1989–72, General Motors 1969
General Tech Tips:
A steering wheel puller and a steering column lock plate removal tool are
required to perform this repair. These can be purchased or rented from your
local auto parts store.

Removal Instructions
- STEP 1: Disconnect negative battery cable.
- STEP 2: Remove the horn pad. NOTE: The horn pad displayed may have different attaching points from your vehicle, as they vary among models and years.
- STEP 3: Remove the horn contact button.
- STEP 4: Remove the steering wheel nut retainer and nut.
- STEP 5: Using a marker, make reference marks on the steering wheel and shaft to maintain original alignment.
- STEP 6: Remove the steering wheel with the appropriate puller.
- STEP 7: Using a marker, make reference marks on the locking plate to maintain the correct orientation.
- STEP 8: Removing wheel locking plate by using the lock plate tool to relieve plate tension.
- STEP 9: Remove snap ring while the plate is compressed.
- STEP 10: Remove turn signal cancelling cam.
- STEP 11: Remove the hazard flasher button.
- STEP 12: Remove turn signal lever screw and lever.
- STEP 13: Remove turn signal switch mounting screws.
- STEP 14: It is not necessary to completely remove the switch from the column. Lift turn signal switch out of way to gain access to lock cylinder release tab.
- STEP 15: Remove key buzzer switch, if equipped. This can be gently pried off with a pick or similar tool.
- STEP 16: Ensure ignition is turned to the off position
- STEP 17: Press and hold in lock cylinder release tab while pulling the lock cylinder from the column and remove.
Installation Instructions
- STEP 1: Install a new ignition lock into the column.
- STEP 2: Reinstall the key buzzer switch, if equipped
- STEP 3: Reinstall the turn signal switch and mounting screws.
- STEP 4: Reinstall turn signal lever screw and lever.
- STEP 5: Reinstall the hazard flasher button.
- STEP 6: Reinstall turn signal cancelling cam.
- STEP 7: Reinstall the wheel locking plate by using a lock plate compression tool to compress plate tension and install snap ring. Be sure to reference marks made during removal to maintain original orientation.
- STEP 8: Reinstall the steering wheel using marks made during removal to maintain original orientation.
- STEP 9: Reinstall steering wheel nut retainer and nut.
- STEP 10: Reinstall the horn contact button.
- STEP 11: Install the horn pad.
- STEP 12: Reconnect negative battery cable.
