Job Description
As a Substation Civil Inspector at EDM International, your primary role is to oversee the construction of contracted projects.
This involves performing daily on-site inspections to ensure that the work is carried out in strict accordance with the drawings and specifications outlined in the approved project documents.

Other Duties
While your main responsibility is to inspect construction projects, you may also be required to perform other job-related duties as assigned. It’s essential to be flexible and adaptable in your role as a Substation Civil Inspector.

Summary/Objective
EDM International is seeking a Substation Civil Inspector to oversee construction of contracted projects. The inspector will perform daily on-site inspections to verify the work is being completed in strict accordance with drawings and specifications of approved project documents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Properly observe testing requirements for drilled pier foundations, slab on grade, monolithic foundations, access roads, yard rock, installation of ground grid, substation steel, and wiring.
  • Interact professionally with Contractors by providing clear, accurate, and timely communications.
  • Create and maintain daily detailed inspection reports
  • Review any discrepancies with the appropriate parties
  • Maintain all contract documents, necessary permits, and updated drawings
  • Ensure a safety-conscious work environment, and initiate corrective action as necessary

Qualifications/Experience:

  • 5 years minimum working knowledge of Substation facilities and foundations
  • Previous substation construction and inspection experience preferred
  • Good driving record
  • Ability to read plans and specifications
  • Knowledge of construction principles and techniques
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and able to perform basic web-based tasks
  • Possess and maintain any necessary certificates
  • FHWA – NHI – 132070 (Drilled Shaft Inspector’s Qualification), helpful but not required
  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Grade I Certification or Higher, helpful but not required

  • Perform with minimal supervision, ability to adapt quickly
  • Problem-solving and sound judgement
  • Valid divers license and good driving record

Special Requirements – Pre-employment checks will require satisfactory results of the following screens:

  • Background Check
  • Motor Vehicle Driving Record
  • Drug Test (including controlled substances)
  • Education and Employment Confirmation
  • Reference Checks
  • Supervisory Responsibility: None

Work Environment / Physical Demands:

  • Able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs. or more at any given time throughout the day
  • Must be able to walk on average 3+ miles per day across rough terrain and/or unlevel surfaces
  • Ability to step in and out of a full-size 4×4 pickup truck several times a day
  • Able to work/drive in potentially harsh weather conditions
  • Must be willing and able to wear the following company-supplied PPE:
  • Hard hat
  • Safety glasses with side shields
  • Safety-toed shoes
  • Flame resistant (FR) class 2 protection upper body wear
  • Garments worn under FR clothing should be silk, cotton or wool. Synthetic clothing should not be worn. Arc Thermal Protective Value (ATPV) rating must be greater than 8.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time, hourly position.
