Operating Instructions
For all depicted dowel connections, the first steps of the preparations are identical, as shown in Fig. 1 to 5 and described below.
- See Fig. 1
- Place an (X) mark on both boards to indicate their alignment, then label them as A and B respectively.
- The steps for working on board A (the end face) apply to all dowel connections. Now fasten board A on the work table.
- See Fig. 2
- Use a drill bit with a depth stop to set the drilling depth for board A.
- For T-butt and corner joints, use the following formula: dowel length + 6 mm – thickness of board B.
- For edge-to-edge joints: half of the dowel length + 1 mm.
- See Fig. 3 + 4
- Place the dowel jig on board A, centring it utilizing the centring pins, and fasten it in place by pressing it on at the side (see Fig. 3). Insert the drill bit into the appropriate drill bush, turn on the power drill and drill the hole.
- See Fig. 5
- Glue the dowel in place.
Corner joints
- See Fig. 6
- Preparation for board A, see Fig 2 –5.
- Loosen the knurled screw and fit the drill bush of the dowel jig over the dowel. Push the limit stop firmly against the side of the board. Tighten the knurled screw.
- See Fig. 7
- Place board A parallel on board B. Guide the dowel jig with the guide slot up to the stop on board B. Now clamp both boards in place. Caution: Reset the depth stop (board thickness B – 6 mm).
- Push the guide slot of the dowel jig over each dowel until the stop is reached and drill the holes. Glue up the joint.
Face-to-face joints
- See Fig. 8
- Preparation for board A, see Fig 2 –5.
- Align the two boards flush with each other and clamp them in place on the work table.
- Push the guide slot of the dowel jig over the dowel until the stop is reached and drill the holes. Glue up the joint.
T-butt joints
- See Fig. 9
- Preparation for board A, see Fig 2 –5.
- Working without angle stop: Draw a centre line on board B. Clamp board A parallel, at a distance of 40 mm from the line.
- Push the guide slot of the dowel jig over the dowel until the jig rests against the end face and drill the holes. Glue up the joint.
