Assembly
Check your vehicle’s service manual for the type of adapter your need. The adapters in the images below do not need any assembly before installation. Chrysler/GM Adapter
- Place a bracket (O) on one of the wide sides of the rectangular adapter (E1) wit the slots on the two slotted side of the brackets placed over the slots in the adapter.
- Insert J-Bolts (P) through the aligned adapter and bracket slots and tightly fasten them with two of the provided wing nuts (T).
- Install brackets, J-Bolts, and wing nuts on the opposite side of the bracket.
- Hang one of the chains (R) onto the J-Bolts as shown in the image on the right.
Universal Adapters
- Use the knob of the adapter joint (N) to screw it into the female end on top of either the 47 mm adapter (D1) or 29 mm adapter (D2).
- Insert J-Bolts through the openings on the sides of the adapter and into the openings on the side of the adapter joint. Use a wing nuts to tightly fasten the hooks.
- Hang one of the chains onto the J-Bolts as shown in the image on the right.
Operation
-
Locate the brake bleeder valve on your vehicle, which is usually located on the brake caliper or the brake drum.
-
Remove the existing brake fluid from the master cylinder. This can be done by using a brake fluid bleeder kit (not included) or by simply removing the brake fluid reservoir cap and allowing the fluid to drain out.
-
Disconnect the brake lines from the master cylinder. This will typically involve loosening the flare nut or banjo bolt (not included) that holds the brake line in place.
-
Use an appropriate wrench (not included) to remove the mounting bolts for the master cylinder. These bolts will be located on the back side of the cylinder.
-
Once the mounting bolts have been removed, the master cylinder can be lifted out of the vehicle.
-
The adapter can now be installed in place of the original master cylinder. This will typically involve aligning the mounting holes on the adapter with the holes in the brake booster or firewall, and installing the mounting bolts with an appropriate wrench.
-
If your assembled adapter includes chains, attach them to the brake booster or firewall according to your vehicle’s service manual. Make sure that the chains are tightened securely, and that the adapter is properly aligned with the brake booster or firewall.
-
Once the adapter is installed, the brake lines can be reattached. Make sure to tighten the flare nuts or banjo bolts securely, and refill the brake fluid reservoir with the appropriate type of fluid.
-
Connect your brake bleeder hose to the master cylinder adapter and bleed the brake system according to your brake bleeder’s separate instructions. The only quick connectors compatible with the master cylinder adapters in this set are those of ARES 70921, 18051, and 18053 brake bleeders. Connecting the master cylinders to incompatible brake bleeder connectors or not sealing its hose connection with a hose clamp may result in leaks, safety hazards, and could potentially cause damage to your brake system. Always ensure that all components are compatible before performing any brake bleeding procedures.
If you are using any other kind of brake bleeder kit, unscrew its hose’s quick connector, rotate it counterclockwise to remove it, and connect the hose directly to the master cylinder adapter as shown below. Use a clamp to fix secure the master cylinder adapter to the hose and prevent any leaks. -
After completing the process, remove the brake bleeder hose and remove the adapter from the master cylinder. Use caution when loosening the bolts. The adapter is under pressure from the brake fluid, so be careful not to strip the bolts or damage the adapter when loosening them. Have a drain pan ready to catch any excess brake fluid that may spill out when you remove the adapter.
-
Disassemble the adapter.
Maintenance
- Keep the adapter set clean and dry. After each use, wipe the adapters with a clean, dry cloth to remove any dir t or brake fluid. Do not r inse them or use abrasive cleaners or caustic chemicals.
- Check the parts of the set periodically for any wear or damage. Repair or replace any problematic parts before further use.
- If the adapter set will not be used for an extended period of time, clean it, lubricate it with a silicone-based lubricant, and store it in a cool dry place inaccessible to children.
