SAFETY – INSPECTION

Personnel
Installing and operating personnel must possess the appropriate knowledge and training. The operator is responsible for the personal protective equipment of the personnel. At least safety glasses and safety shoes are required for repair work, maintenance inspections and installation.

Follow the instructions
Installation, operation, maintenance and disassembly must be carried out as stated and showed in the different instruction manuals that are an integral part of the delivery and in accordance with best practice. In addition to the IMI Hydronic
Engineering instructions, additional instructions from other companies may be included for the components used. You must follow these instructions in the same way as the IMI Hydronic Engineering instructions. If anything is unclear, please contact IMI Hydronic Engineering customer service.

Follow caution and advise symbols

  • Caution: High temperatures and pressurised hot water!

  • Protect data media and heart pacemakers! E.g. Ferro-Cleaner and Magnet attachments for Zeparo.

Tests before commissioning and periodic inspections
Test required before commissioning and periodic inspections must be performed according to the regulations in the country where the device is installed and operated. The organization of the tests is the responsibility of the operator. There are no standardised international regulations for the acceptance test prior to commissioning and periodic inspections. For pressure equipment that do not comply with PED 2014/68/EU Article 4 Paragraph 3, the enclosed Declaration of Conformity applies. These pressure devices are CE type-tested according to PED 2014/68/EU. Usually these are the vessels and large Zeparo. If inspections of the devices become necessary, either flange or endoscopic inspection ports are available.

In Switzerland, Statico and Aquapresso does not require authorisation from the SVTI if the installation is protected in such a way that psCH is not exceeded. Vessels with psv x V up to 3000 bar*litres do not require inspection by the SVTI.

Place of installation

The access to the place of installation must be restricted to trained and specialised personnel. The floor structure must be able to support the maximum operating and installation conditions. Connections, mains water and waste water must correspond to the requirements of the device. The room must be thouroughly ventilated. The surrounding atmosphere must not be explosive. Do not store flammable, explosive materials near the pressure equipment. Pressurized gas equipment under pressure (Statico and Aquapresso expansion vessels) must be protected against external fire, at least according to national regulations.

Water quality

IMI Hydronic Engineering devices are designed for the operation in closed heating, solar and cooling systems with water that contains no aggressive or toxic agents. The entire system must be dimensioned and operated in such a way as to minimise the amount of oxygen admitted through the make-up water or through permeable components. Water treatment systems are to be dimensioned, installed and operated according to the current state of the art.

Accidental contact protection
Thermal insulation is normally only provided on the expansion pipes and intermediate vessels.
Caution: For operational reasons high temperatures may occur on pressure equipment surfaces due to the working fluid. For surface temperatures > 50 ° C, protection measures must be provided by the customer..

Required parameters and measures to be taken

The information concerning manufacturer, year of manufacture, serial number and technical specifications should be taken from the type plates on the devices
That information should be checked against the system and design parameters. There should be no inadmissible differences. Appropriate measures should be taken for pressure and temperature protection in accordance with the regulations, to ensure that values do not exceed or fall below the stated maximum and minimum values.

In case of deviations from the admissible bag temperature TB, an intermediate vessel must be installed in the expansion pipe.

Equipement and system quality

All the materials used must meet current regulations and there should be no visible damage, particularly on pressurised parts. Welding on pressurised parts are not acceptable.Only the manufacturer’s original parts should be used.

Application

  • All IMI Hydronic Engineering devices mentioned in this document are developped to be installed and operated in closed heating and cooling water borne systems.
  • Zeparo and Ferro-Cleaner are intended for installation and operation as separators for free gas bubbles and/or nonmagnetic dirt particles and/or magnetic particles
  • Statico are pressure expansion vessels for corrosion-proof closed heating and cooling water circuits.
  • Aquapresso are pressure expansion vessels and are intended for installation and operation in drinking water systems, drinking water heating systems and pressure boosting systems. Aquapresso may also be used in closed heating and cooling water systems
  • Intermediate vessels are intended to protect expansion vessels from impermissible temperatures.
  • Addition of non-foaming antifreeze agents allowed up to 50% in system water.
  • Maximum chloride content in the medium: 125 mg/l (70 °C), 250 mg/l (45 °C)
  • Usage other than described here requires agreement from IMI Hydronic Engineering.

Additional dispositions for Zeparo TS > 110 °C or PS > 10 bar

Completion of the separator: For PS > 10 bar or TS > 110°C Zeparo are delivered without any automatic air vent. The reliable venting during start-up and operation has to be ensured by the customer. An explanatory sketch for installation is part of the installation instructions.

OPERATION

Maintenance

Before performing any maintenance on a device, make sure that it has cooled down.

Before performing any maintenance on a device, make sure that it has been depressurised, cooled down and drained

Zeparo for separating free gas bubbles operate maintenance-free. Zeparo for the separation of magnetic or non-magnetic dirt particles must be cleaned at regular intervals (removal of collected dirt particles). Further information can be found in the “INSTALL” instructions.

The maintenance intervals for Statico apply to “watertight systems” with annual leakage ≤ 3 litres or ≤ 0.5% of the system volume. Installations with larger leakages require an assessment by an expert and shorter maintenance intervals. The deviations from the set value of the commissioning should not exceed
∆ = 0.2 bar at the maintenance interval.
p0 (pre-set pressure): Maintenance interval ≤ 5 years: ∆p0 ≤ -0.2 bar
pa (initial pressure): Maintenance interval ≤ 1 year: ∆pa ≤ -0.2 bar

The maintenance intervals for Aquapresso depend on the pressure behaviour of the inlet pressure p0 of the The deviations from the set value during commissioning should not exceed
∆ = 0.2 bar during the maintenance interval.
p0 (pre-set pressure): Maintenance interval ≤ 5 years: ∆p0 ≤ -0.2 bar

Intermediate vessels operate maintenance-free

For Statico and Aquapresso of type series G (e.g. SG, AGF), the bladders can be changed if necessary. Aquapresso A…F are equipped with a hydrowatch HW which signals bladder damage. Contact IMI Hydronic Engineering customer service for bladder replacement.

Inspection
Before performing any inspection on a device, make sure that it has been depressurised, cooled down and drained

Disassembling
Before disassembling any device make sure it is depressurized, cooled down and drained.

DISPOSAL

No dangerous materials are used in the devices. All installed components can be disposed of or recycled in the normal way. Country-specific regulations for disposal must be observed.
