PETERMANN PM-1010 Alpha Sliding Mat

Sliding Mat

General Information

Thank you for choosing a Petermann product.

Please read the user manual carefully before using the product for the first time!
The current understanding in modern occupational health and safety is that people in nursing professions experience significant work-related physical strain. Back injuries are common. There are many situations in which a patient has to be transferred from a  bed, a wheeled stretcher, ambulance stretcher, an X-Ray table or a wheelchair to a different stretcher or seat. The strain on the user and the patient / care-dependent can be reduced significantly through the use of Sliding Mats.

The use of transfer aids should be conditional upon the user having learned to use the equipment properly. The user has to decide for themselves what equipment is suitable to the patient’s situation and the intended sequence of movements.

Sliding Mats are available in various sizes. The choice of Sliding Mat is based on the clinical picture, the supporting surface and the positioning goal. Ask our experts about this. We are happy to help you!

The inner surface of all Sliding Mats is made from particularly low friction fabric, which allows for easy movement.
The outer surfaces consist of a carbon-fibre reinforced, latex-free material, which thanks to its liquid-repellent properties is optimal for use in care settings. The Sliding Mats have soft padding between the surfaces so that the patient can lie or sit comfortably.

The Sliding Mats are part of a product line which is used specifically to aid in the transfer of patients in home care and other health care facilities, as well as in hospitals.

The product may only be used for the specified purpose and under the specified conditions.

The Sliding Mats are a safe transfer aid, which allows for a transfer which is pleasant and comfortable for the patient as well as being simple and back- friendly for the users.

The information in this user manual is for the patient who is being transferred and moved, as well as the user performing the transfer / position change.

Safety information

WARNING indicates a potential danger which could lead to personal injury or material damage.

➢ It is the responsibility of the organisation / the user to determine, on the basis of the circumstances (weight / health condition of the patient) and the capabilities of the user, whether several users may be required for the transfer and/or whether additional  safety measures are required.
➢ Defective products may no longer be used.
➢ The smooth surfaces significantly reduce resistance due to friction during repositioning. Check the transfer surfaces carefully to ensure they are fixed in place securely (e.g. wheelchair, bed).
➢ Ensure that the transfers are performed by the users in a back-friendly manner.
➢ Weight limits must be observed (200 kg).
➢ After the transfer / repositioning, remove the Sliding Mat from under the patient. If applicable, ask about products which can also be used for “bedding” applications.
➢ Transfer products are subject to a natural ageing process. Inspect the equipment regularly to ensure proper functionality.
➢ The use of non-standard cleaning agents or bleaching agents, alcohols, fabric softeners or other chemical laundry additives may lead to permanent deterioration of the Sliding Mat properties.

3.6 Application
Sliding Mats are available in various sizes and versions, the correct size is determined on the basis of the patient’s functional capacities and the desired change in position. These are tubular Sliding Mats, where the specified length is the length of the respective  closed side. The inner surface consists of low friction material. The outer surface consists of carbon-fibre reinforced latex-free material which has liquid-repellent properties.

The Sliding Mats not only allow the patient to be moved within the bed, they can also be used for many positionchanges and transfers while lying down or sitting. The Sliding Mats PES/Carbon support the movement transitionsand are not intended to remain underneath the patient. They can be combined effectively with a sliding boardturning disc, the raising aid or the support belt. If the patient is intended to continue lying on the product for alonger time, select the corresponding product version made from Cotton/natural thicking. After use, the slidingmats can be hung up by the label.
