General Information

Thank you for choosing a Petermann product.

Please read the user manual carefully before using the product for the first time!

The current understanding in modern occupational health and safety is that people in nursing professions experience significant work-related physical strain. Back injuries are common. There are many situations in which a patient has to be transferred from a bed, a wheeled stretcher, ambulance stretcher, an X-Ray table or a wheelchair to a different stretcher or seat. The strain on the user and the patient / care-dependent can be reduced significantly through the use of sliding mats.

The use of transfer aids should be conditional upon the user having learned to use the equipment properly. The user has to decide for themselves what equipment is suitable to the patient’s situation and the intended sequence of movements.

The Petermann Soft Turning Disc is part of a product line which is used specifically to support turning movements of patients with lower extremity limitations and largely intact trunk stability.

The product may only be used for the specified purpose and under the specified conditions.

The information in this user manual is for the patient who is being transferred and moved, as well as the user performing the transfer / position change.

Service life / lifecycle

If the product is used in accordance with the safety instructions, then the expected product service life is five years. However, the effective service life may vary depending on the frequency and intensity of use and the number of washing and disinfection cycles.

Perform regular function checks on the product and be sure to observe the safety information (see item 2).

Safety information

WARNING indicates a potential danger which could lead to personal injury or material damage.

• It is the responsibility of the organization / the user to determine, on the basis of the circumstances (weight / health condition of the patient) and the capabilities of the user, whether several users may be required for the transfer and/or whether additional safety measures are required.
• Defective products may no longer be used.
• Weight limits must be observed (200 kg).
• The Soft Turning Disc may not be used while driving in vehicles.
• Transfer products are subject to a natural ageing process. Inspect the equipment regularly to ensure proper functionality.
• In case of direct skin contact, observation of changes in skin appearance is indicated.
• The use of non-standard cleaning agents or bleaching agents, alcohols, fabric softeners or other chemical laundry additives may lead to permanent deterioration of the sliding mat properties.

Function check

Repositioning products are also subject to a natural ageing process. Inspect the product regularly and carefully, in particular before each use. Ensure that the product is in sound condition and that the material and the seams are not damaged. Check the product functionality by applying pressure to the Soft Turning Disc and ensure that the material withstands the load. The smooth surface of the special sliding material allows for easy sliding and moving. Check these properties – ideally in comparison to a new product.

Defective products may no longer be used!

Using the product

Indication and further use

Due to the wide range of possible applications, the indications cannot be tied to a specific clinical picture, since Sliding Mats are suitable for all applications involving people who require assistance. Thanks to the reduced friction, the capabilities of the patient can be put to use when Sliding Mats are used. The effort required on the part of the user is reduced. The product can be used to support the following diagnoses

• Patients with lower extremity limitations and largely intact trunk stability.

This product may be reused.
Before reusing the product, be sure to perform a thorough function check (see item 2.2) as well as cleaning or disinfection of the product. (see item 5)

Contraindications

Contraindications cannot be tied to a specific clinical picture. Observe the safety information under item 2. In the following patient pictures, the use of the products may have to be avoided:

• Insufficient trunk stability

Application risks

• The soft turntable has no restraining function, so if the torso is not stable, there is → Risk of falling
• Do not use while driving in a vehicle, as there is no restraint function. → Risk of falling

Application

The Soft Turning Disc allows the patient to change their sitting position independently by aligning the body.

• Weight transfer.
• Residual muscle function.
• Active and passive corrections of the sitting position are possible.

The Soft Turning Disc can be used for transfers in/out a car seat.
Warning: Do not leave the product while driving because of the sliding risks in case of an unexpected event or movement.

Product marking / CE

The Petermann Soft Turning Disc is a Class I Medical Device and meets the EU-Regulation 2017/745 of the European Parliament and Council dated 05.04.2017 for medical devices, also called MDR.

Petermann GmbH is certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 13485 by TÜV Süd, Medical Devices – Quality management systems applicable to the design and development, production and distribution of aids for people of limited mobility

Cleaning, care and disinfection

The product doesn’t require any special maintenance. It can be machine washed at 60°C and dried at low temperatures (45° – 50 C). We recommend washing with mild detergents. The use of cleaning agents with bleaching ingredients or other chemical laundry additives, also as fabric softeners may lead to permanent deterioration of the product properties.

When necessary, we recommend wipe disinfection with the product Trionic® (DGHM/VAH approval, further information upon request). As alternatives to our proven disinfectant Trionic®, we can also recommend the following disinfectants for wipe disinfection:

• Mikrobac® Tissues*
• Mikrobac® forte*
• Bacillol® 30 Foam
• Bacillol® 30 Tissues

When using products marked with an *, wipe down again using a water-soaked cloth after disinfection has been completed, in order to remove residues and prevent build-up. For wipe disinfection, please be sure to always follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer.

Always follow the care instructions on the label of every product as well as the information in the respective user  manual.

Technical Data

The manufacturing of our products is subject to highest quality standards. Due to usual manufacturing variations published dimensions and further information concerning the condition of the product are defined as target production specifications. Deviations which might occur are monitored by professional quality management procedures and do not represent a reduction in performance of the respective product.

Warranty

• The company Petermann warrants that the product is free from defects in material and workmanship.

• The warranty period is 3 years. It does not cover defects attributable to abrasion, normal wear,
  improper use or improper cleaning.

• The company Petermann is not liable for accidental or consequential injury or material damage.

Disposal information

There are no specific disposal regulations for open Soft Turning Discs, they can be disposed of in accordance with applicable national and local regulations.
