Description

The C.A 861 and C.An 863 are high-precision hand-held temperature measurement instruments. They are lightweight and come with a digital display. These instruments are easy to use and support interchangeable K-type thermocouples.

  • Long press (>2 secs): Displays the maximum measured value (only available in C.A 863 model)

3 position selector switch

The selector switch has three positions:

  • C.A 861: Command push button for maximum temperature value
  • C.A 863: Scroll-down menu for switching between T1, T2, and T

Shock-proof molded surround
The instrument is designed with a shock-proof molded surround for added durability.

Procedure

  1. Connect one or two sensors to the instrument.
  2. Switch on the thermometer.
  3. Select one or two measurement modes based on the number of sensors connected.

FAQ

What type of thermocouple sensors does the instrument support?
The instrument supports K-type thermocouple sensors.

Can I use the instrument with sensors raised to voltages exceeding 24 V AC/DC?
No, to prevent any risk of deterioration to the thermometer, do not use it with sensors raised to voltages exceeding 24 V AC/DC as the sensors are electrically connected to the thermometer input.

What should I do if the thermometer is subjected to great variations in ambient temperature?
If the thermometer is subjected to great variations in ambient temperature, wait for 20 minutes after it becomes stable again before continuing with the measurement.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS!

  • To prevent any risk of deterioration to the thermometer, do not use sensors raised to voltages exceeding 24 V AC/DC, since the sensors are electrically connected to the thermometer input.
  • If the thermometer is subjected to great variations in ambient temperature, wait for 20 minutes after it becomes stable again before continuing with the measurement.
  • Respect the climatic environmental conditions (see § 4)

The C.A 861 and C.A 863 are high precision hand-held temperature measurement instruments, lightweight, with a digital display, and easy to use with interchangeable K-type thermocouples.

USE

Procedure

  1. Connect one or two sensors
  2. Switch on the thermometer: select one or two measurement resolutions, using selector switch ➄, the measurement isinstantaneously displayed.
  3. Set-up the thermometer according to the type of measurement to be carried out, using buttons ➂, ➃ and/or ➅ (see § 2 and 3.2).
  4. Read off the measured value.
    The thermometer is switched off by putting switch ➄ back in the OFF position.

Note :
If no sensor is connected, OL Is displayed.
If the temperature to be measured is outside of the instrument’s measurement range, then OL is displayed

Special Functions (see § 2. Description)

  • HOLD : as soon as this button is pressed, the instrument holds the last measurement displayed.
  • MAX : the instrument displays the maximum value of the temperature during measurement

On the C.A 863 :
ΔT : With two sensors the instrument simultaneously measures temperatures T1 and T2 and displays the difference ΔT between these two measurements.

  • The temperature range depends upon the K type thermocouple chosen (see section 5):

    • C.A 861 : -40 to +1350°C (-40 to 2000°F)
    • 40 to +200°C (-40 to +392°F) with K type thermocouple supplied as standard.
    • C.A 863 : -50 to +1300°C (-58 to 2000°F)
    • 50 to +200°C (-58 to 392°F) with the K type thermocouple chosen (see section 5).

Maintenance
Battery replacement

  • Select the OFF position on the switch
  • Take off the lid on the back of the instrument
  • Replace the worn-out battery with a 9 V battery (type 6LR61 or 6LF22)

Cleaning the casing

Clean using a cloth lightly dampened in soapy water. Rinse off with a damp cloth.
Do not use solvent.

Metrological verification

All measuring instruments must be regularly calibrated.
For checking and calibration of your instrument, please contact our accredited laboratories (list on request) or the Chauvin Arnoux subsidiary or Agent in your country.
