User Manual Double retractable 10 A test probes
Thank you for purchasing double retractable 10 A test probes. These test
probes are designed for use with C.A. 6240 and C.A. 6250 microhmmeters.
For best results from your instrument:
- read these operating instructions carefully,
- comply with the precautions for use.
WARNING , risk of DANGER! The operator must refer to these instructions
whenever this danger symbol appears.
The CE marking indicates compliance with the European Low Voltage Directive
(2014/35/EU), Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (2014/30/EU), and
Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS, 2011/65/EU and
2015/863/EU).
The rubbish bin with a line through it indicates that, in the European Union,
the product must undergo selective disposal in compliance with Directive WEEE
2012/19/EU. This equipment must not be treated as household waste
Definition of measurement categories
-
Measurement category IV corresponds to measurements taken at the source of low-voltage installations.
Example: power feeders, counters and protection devices. -
Measurement category III corresponds to measurements on building installations.
Example: distribution panel, circuit-breakers, machines or fixed industrial devices. -
Measurement category II corresponds to measurements taken on circuits directly connected to low-voltage installations.
Example: power supply to electro-domestic devices and portable tools.
PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
This accessory is compliant with safety standard IEC/EN 61010-031 or BS EN
61010031 for voltages up to 300 V with respect to earth in category III.
The operator and/or the responsible authority must read attentively and
clearly understand the various precautions for use.
A thorough knowledge and keen wareness of electrical risks is essential for
any use of this accessory.
- If you use this accessory other than as specified, the protection it provides may be impaired, thereby endangering you.
- Do not use the accessory on networks at voltages or in categories higher than those mentioned.
- Do not use the accessory if it seems to be damaged, incomplete, or not correctly closed.
- Any repairs must be carried out by skilled and approved personnel.

1.3. FUNCTIONS
The double retractable 10A test probes can be used with a C.A. 6240 or C.A.
6250 microhmmeter to measure a weak resistance very accurately.
-
The retractable test probes ensure a good contact at the measurement point even if the surface is uneven.
-
The test probes with rotation can in addition improve the contact by removing a thin layer of rust, paint, or dirt. When the user presses on the probes, they rotate as they retract.
-
The resistance of both 10A test probes is very low.
-
The measurement is made in 4-wire mode, so no allowance need be made for the resistance of the leads.
-
The test probe with rotation, which is thicker, allows more “rugged” use. The pistolgrip test probe is used for applications in more confined spaces.
At the other end of the leads there are safety terminals 4mm in diameter onto which spade terminals 6mm in diameter are screwed. These accessories can therefore be used with microhmmeters having either binding posts from 4 to 6mm in diameter or safety terminals 4mm in diameter.
1.4. TEST PROBE WITH ROTATION
USE
-
Connect the 2 double retractable 10 A test probes to the 4 terminals of the instrument.
Loosen the nuts on the binding posts, insert the spade terminals, being very careful to connect the red leads to the voltage terminals (P), then tighten the nut.
If the instrument has safety terminals, unscrew the spade terminals to make the connection. -
Place the voltage probes (identified by red spots) as close as possible to one another.
-
During the measurement, hold the test probes firmly in contact with the object being measured.
For details of the measurement configuration, technical characteristics, error messages and memorization, refer to the user manuals of the C.A. 6240 or C.A. 6250.
