Safety instructions

  • WARNING: Danger! All installation steps described here may only be carried out by experienced specialists who are trained and experienced in the installation as well as commissioning and maintenance of DIN rail power supplies combined with electromechanical components.
The same applies to 230 V mains by qualified electricians.

  • WARNING: Electric shock hazard! Incorrect modifications to the Popstar DIN rail power supply may result in 230 V AC voltage being applied to other components.

  • WARNING: Short circuit hazard! Never insert objects into ventilation slots or sockets.

  • WARNING: Fire hazard! Selecting a higher operating voltage than specified by the manufacturer of the product can cause serious damage to the DIN rail power supply and the electronic devices connected to it!

  • For any work carried out on the 230 V AC mains, the current VDE regulations as well as corresponding country-specific regulations must be respected.

  • Incorrect wiring of the DIN rail power supply can lead to the destruction of the electronics.

  • Keep the product out of reach of children.

  • Contains small parts that can be swallowed. Keep away from small children!

  • Never open the housing.

  • Never cover the product.

  • Never expose the product to extreme circumstances such as heat, cold, wet, or humid environments, foreign matters (e. g. chippings or liquids), direct sunlight, vibrations,  shocks, or mechanical pressure.

  • Do not modify or dismantle the product or accessories.

  • Never repair broken products yourself. Please contact our technical support.

  • Only use the product in dry indoor areas.

Installation

WARNING: Allowed mounting position: To ensure proper ventilation during operation, only vertical wall mounting is allowed for the DIN rail power supply. Horizontal mounting is not allowed.

  1. Mounting location: Keep the ventilation slots of the DIN rail power supply free at the top and bottom (20-40mm). Sufficient space around the power supply at the mounting location (5-10mm) must be provided in order for it to cool properly.
  2. Tilt the power supply slightly backward and place it on the rail from above.
  3. Push the power supply down as far as it will go.
  4. To lock the power supply in its place, press against the lower front until it clicks into the rail (it makes a click sound).
  5. Gently shake the power supply to check that it is securely attached.

Wiring

WARNING: Danger! The connection must be made in a voltage-free/load-free state!
WARNING: Use separate wires for the inputs and outputs.
WARNING: The DIN rail power supply works as soon as the primary side is receiving voltage. It does not have its own on/off switch.
We recommend checking the output voltage once with a multimeter before connecting a device because an unwanted output voltage could damage or destroy your device.

  1. Open all screw terminals (+, -, L, N) with a flathead or crosshead screwdriver.
  2. Route the cables in the cable holders and fasten the screw terminals again, so the cables are firmly secured.
  3. Check that the cables are firmly secured.

Adjusting the output voltage

Above the symbol “+V ADJ” on the power supply you will find the potentiometer for adjusting the output voltage (for values see table). The output voltage can be increased by turning it clockwise with a flathead or crosshead screwdriver.

Disassembly

WARNING: Before removing, switch off the main power supply, check that there is no voltage present and disconnect the power supply from the mains.

  1. Put a flathead screwdriver into the groove of the release slide (at the bottom of the power supply) and pull it downwards with it.
  2. Lift the lower front edge of the power supply carefully and remove it.

Malfunction

WARNING: A functional test may only be carried out by qualified electricians.
Should a malfunction occur, check the following:

  • Is the LED (“Output voltage OK”) lit (except 1010427)?
  • Are the cables for the nominal input voltage (L, N) connected?
  • Is the protective earth (PE) connected?
  • Is the shielding/ground of the power supply cable connected to the device?
  • Is the device connected to the output with the correct polarity?
  • Has the correct cable diameter been selected?
  • Is the nominal output voltage (5V/12V/24V, see table) correctly applied to the input of the device?
  • Has the maximum output current been exceeded by too many devices?

Storage and maintenance

Store the product in a cool and dry place.
Use a dry and soft cloth for cleaning the product, do not expose it to cleaning agents or chemicals!
