Introduction – control with app

The product is compatible with smartphones. Accordingly, at the time of writing of this description, it is assumed that the user has the general knowledge necessary for the handling of smart phones. Settings and use of this radio are quite similar to that of smart phones or tablet computers. Some phone settings may require more in-depth knowledge and English language skills. The first part of this guide describes how to use the appliance independently without connecting the phone. The radio can be used as a fully- equipped appliance even without using the smartphone.

Resetting the unit
After any event where the power supply has been interrupted or the appliance is working abnormally, it is necessary to erase the microprocessor data. In order to do so, press the RST (20.) (RESET) button for 2 seconds, located on the front panel using a thin, sharp object. The appliance will turn off and return to factory default condition. This operation is required after installation, before switching on for the first time, furthermore when the battery is replaced in the vehicle.

Switch on/off

To switch on, press the POWER/MOD (1.) button briefly. To switch off, press and hold the button repeatedly. (A short press switches functions.)

  • A short press of the MUTE button will mute the speakers and flash the MUTE message on the display.Press briefly again to turn the sound back on or rotate the volume control.
  • When the BT connection is active, the appliance will also switch on when a call is received on the phone.
  • As there may be a voltage surge when starting the engine of some vehicles, only switch on the appliancewhen the engine is running. Turn off before stopping the engine.

To set the menu, volume and tone
Use the rotary knob (2.) to set the desired volume level. Press the rotary knob briefly until the indication of the volume, tone or other function you want to adjust appears on the display. Then, by rotating the knob, briefly, selected setting can be modified

  • The available sound and other settings: V: volume / BS: bass tone / TR: treble tone / B: right-left channel balance / F: front-rear channel volume / LD: bass emphasis on-off / USER EQ: on-off and tone selection (FLAT-ROCK-POP-CLASS-JAZZ) / ST: stereo mono reception / DX/LOC: long distance or local reception (last two FM reception settings only available in radio mode)
  • The combination of the three tone controls (treble/bass + USER EQ + loudness) can make the sound worse! It is not recommended to activate more than one at the same time!
  • When listening at higher volume levels, do not emphasise bass and treble significantly, as this may lead to distortion!
  • EQ: FLAT (off)-ROCK-POP-CLASS-JAZZ (factory tone settings)
  • USER EQ: customisable 7-band EQ setting in the smartphone application
  • By pressing and holding the rotary knob for two seconds and then turning it, you can adjust the volume of the BT connection to your preference. If you press it briefly after a long press, the version number will be displayed in some cases. If you do this in radio mode, you can rotate it after the long press to select the geographical area where you are using it: USA-SUSA-LATI-BRAZ-EURO

LOUDNESS – Physiological tone adjustment
The human ear perceives less of low and high frequency sounds at smaller volume. By activating the LOUDNESS function (LD in the menu) at lower volume levels, this effect is corrected by automatic volume-dependent tone control. The lower the volume, the higher the bass and treble frequency boost. It is recommended to switch off this function at higher volume, since it may cause distorted sound.

  • In order to get better sound quality, before using this function it is recommended to choose EQ FLAT setting, and set the equalizers to ‘0’ position.
  • The larger the volume, the less noticeable effect on the automatic tone correction.

To set and display the exact time
Turn on the appliance by pressing the POWER/MOD (1) button, then press and hold the CLK (11) button for 2 seconds. The display will show the clock and the number of hours will flash. Use the rotary knob to set the number of hours, then press the CLK button to advance to the lock and minute setting.

While the minute’s display is flashing, set it with the rotary knob. Finally, wait 5 seconds to automatically lock the setting and exit or press and hold CLK.

When the appliance is on, a short press on the CLK button will display the exact time, which will be shown briefly on the display.

  • If you wait idle for more than a few seconds while setting, the appliance will exit the menu

Selecting functions and signal source
Press the POWER/MOD (1.) button briefly to select the mode: FM radio – USB or microSD playback – BT connection – AUX IN input – FM radio…

  • The signal source cannot be activated if it is not available. For example, if there is no USB or microSD storage device connected where the playable files can be found.
  • If there is an external device connected to both the USB and microSD sockets at the same time, the USB or microSD option can be selected using the button mentioned above. In principle, the use of the SD card is recommended due to its smaller footprint and safer placement.
  • When switched on, the last source listened to will be activated if the appliance has not been removed in the meantime.

USING THE RADIO
After it is switched on the radio will turn on if it was being previously listened to – or the last played other signal source has been removed. If necessary,
use the POWER/MOD button on the front panel to select the radio function. • ST: stereo mono reception; set to mono if you are receiving noise

  • DX/LOC: long-range or local reception; set to the more sensitive DX mode when reception is weak, but to LOC mode when listening to a nearby local station
  • These two settings are only available in the menu by pressing the rotary knob while listening to the radio.

Selection from the stored radio stations
Select the desired FM band (F1-F2-F3) by briefly pressing the BAND (9.) key, then select the desired station by pressing the number keys 1…6.The display will show the following information: F1…F3/P1…P6, where F1…F3 are the three FM bands available and P1…P6 are the number of 6-6 radio stations that can be memorised per band.A total of 18 FM radio stations can be memorised.

Automatic tuning and storing

Press and hold the front panel RST (20) button for 2 seconds with a paper-clip to return to factory settings. Then press and hold the BAND (9.) button for 2 seconds to automatically find and store radio stations that can be received at the place of use. Process of tuning and storing can be followed on the display. All receivable frequency will be controlled. The better the conditions for reception, the more stations will be found. After checking the entire band, all stored stations are briefly displayed by the appliance

  • When tuning is complete, a few seconds of each stored station’s programme will be automatically played. The tuning and presentation function can be switched off by pressing BAND repeatedly.
  • Take into consideration that appliance will skip stations with weaker reception, and the stations may be stored in a different sequence what you have defined. It is also possible that interfering signals may be detected as transmissions because of their strength.
  • The effectiveness of automatic scanning may be affected by whether you have previously set the menu to the more sensitive long-range (DX) or local (LOC) reception mode for bands F1-F2-F3.
  • Select manual tuning and storing in order to perform custom settings.

Manual tuning, fine tuning and storing radio stations

If you know the exact frequency of the programme wanted to be heard or you would like to perform fine tuning of previously set programme, then use of manual tuning is recommended. Select one of the FM bands F1-F2-F3 by briefly pressing the front panel BAND button. (recommended: F1) Briefly press the step forward or backward (12, 8) buttons and the appliance will automatically search for the nearest radio station. You can repeat this several times.

To fine tune, press and hold the step forward or backward buttons until the display shows MANU (manual fine tuning). You can then start immediately by briefly pressing the step forward or step back buttons to step the frequency. After the desired radio station has been tuned, keep holding one of buttons from 1…6 to store it. The display briefly shows the current FM band symbol (F1-F2-F3) and the memory space used within it (P1…P6). Already stored programmes can be selected using the number keys. Actual FM band and included storage place is readable on the display. For example F2-P6; on FM2 band, the 6th programme is selected.

  • If you do not press a button for 4 seconds in manual fine tuning mode, the radio will revert to automatic tuning when AUTO is displayed – this is the default setting. It will then tune automatically to the next station using the step buttons and then stop.
  • A total of 18 FM radio stations can be memorised on bands F1-F2-F3. On each band 6 stations can be stored. If you choose 4th storage place of F2\ band, then you have to select F2 band first (BAND), after press the 4th number key..
  • If one storage is place is already used, then the content will be deleted, and new station frequency will be stored.
  • If the appliance is being used at a distance from the original tuned location, such as when travelling, the same station might have to be tuned in again on a different frequency. The same programmes are broadcast on different frequencies in different geographical locations! This appliance does not have an RDS function, which in such cases will automatically switch to a radio tower offering with better reception.
  • If you hold the rotary knob for two seconds and then turn it, you can select the geographical area where you want to use it: USA-SUSA-LATI-BRAZEURO

USING WIRELESS BT FUNCTIONS
The radio can be paired with other devices communicating according to the BT protocol. Music played on mobile phones, tablets, notebooks and other similar devices can then be listened to on the vehicle’s sound system. In case of incoming call, it is possible to answer call, make the call hands-free and end call, without touching the phone. The car radio has built-in microphone to be used by phone calls. Try to speak towards it (to the left, next to the display) so that the person you are talking to can hear you with even better sound quality. When you are on the phone, keep the windows closed and the ventilation system on low or off, as the noise from the ride and heating/cooling system can significantly reduce the intelligibility of your conversation for your partner

CONNECTION: Select BT mode by pressing POWER/MOD (1). The display will show the abbreviation BT and a small mobile phone symbol will flash underneath. The mobile phone to be paired should locate nearby BT devices, including this car radio, as described in its operating manual. Connect the two devices. Following that, the phone conversation or music played on the phone will be audible through the car speakers. If the connection is successful, the BT indicator will be replaced by BT ON and the small phone symbol will light up. It is then ready to receive music played wirelessly from your phone. Set the desired volume on the phone too

  • By pressing and holding the rotary knob for two seconds and then turning it, you can adjust the volume of the BT connection to your preference. Adjust it so that you can hear the phone conversation clearly through the speakers. Also, the volume of the music played from the phone should be similar to the volume of the radio broadcast. This is also affected by the setting of the volume control on the phone!

CONVERSATION : The following extra functions are available: the radio, which is switched off but has been previously paired, turns on and switches to BT mode when a call is received on the phone. For example, if you were listening to the radio, it will automatically switch to BT mode. The display will show the number of the caller after the CALL message, while the car speakers will ring. With the car radio control, it is possible to reject (POWER/MOD) (1.), answer (BAND) (9.), end (POWER/MOD) (1.), make a phone call to the last caller number. To do the latter, briefly press BAND (9.) button. The phone will dial the number if it is not blocked by a screen lock or other setting. During a call, the radio measures the time of the call.

ATTENTION! If you press and hold the BAND key for 2 seconds in BT mode, the BT ON and BT OFF messages indicate that wireless availability is on and off.

If you press the BAND button while talking, the SOC (SOCIAL) message will be read briefly and the car radio speakers will be muted. This allows you to have a private conversation via your mobile phone, and when you press it again – after another SOC message – the hands-free feature will be active again (it switches back from your mobile phone to the car radio)

  • Make a call to the last number: if you have a phone with a dual SIM card, you may need to approve the call also on the phone, depending on its configuration. This can be avoided by setting the phone correctly (type dependent).

MUSIC PLAYBACK: Start playing with the music player of mobile phone, then music is audible through the car speakers. The A2DP indicator on the display indicates the wireless music playback mode. When a phone call comes in, you can use the radio’s BAND button to answer or the MOD button to reject the call; while the music is paused

  • The music player application launched on the phone can usually be remotely controlled using the radio play and step buttons. If necessary, use another music player to access these functions.
  • One radio can be paired with one BT device at a time. The actual operation range depends on the other device and the environmental conditions (appr. 5-10 m).
  • The available features, volume and sound quality of the BT connection are affected by the settings and features of the connected mobile phone. Remember that the volume control on the phone and the dedicated BT volume control on the car radio also need to be set correctly – not just the radio volume control. (see note in the BT functions/connectivity section above)
  • Manufacturer or third party developments and software updates may result in changes to some functions.

PLAYBACKfrom USB/microSD storage
If you want to listen to music from a USB/microSD source instead of listening to the radio, just plug the external USB storage device into the USB socket on the left. The memory card slot is located under the rotary knob. The appliance will detect this and start playback automatically. The display will briefly show the USB or SD designation, and then may show various abbreviations, references to the current file, directory, song line number, artist and title – if these ID3Tag details are correctly included in the MP3 and WMA file currently playing. For example:  TRACK, DIR, ROOT, SONG, ART, TITLE.

During playback, the elapsed time of the current programme is read. When playback is stopped by pressing 1/PLAY/PAUSE (14.), the PAUS message is displayed. Available functions of the music player:

( 14.): play or pause
(8., 12.) : press the buttons briefly to reach the previous or next track.Keeping the buttons pressed, quick search will start in the song, while the speakers are muted

(18.) -10/D-: step back 10 programme numbers / step back in the directory structure
(19.) +10/D+: step 10 programmes forward / step forward in the directory structure
(15.) INTRO (INT): song introduction; play 10 seconds from the beginning of each song, press again to switch off
(16.) REPEAT: repeat one song (ONE), one directory (FOD) (FOLDER) vagy az összes dal (ALL) ismétlése
(17.) RANDOM (RDM): random order playback, can be switched off by pressing again

  • The recommended file system for the memory is FAT32. Do not use an NTFS formatted memory card.
  • If the appliance does not play sound or does not recognise the USB/microSD memory, remove it, then reconnect the memory. If this is ineffective, try to choose the source with the MOD button. If necessary, turn off and back on and ultimately push the RESET (RST) button on the front panel!
  • If the appliance cannot recognise the files or one part of them, copied on the external storage, then proceed as described in the previous paragraph, or you can insert the USB/microSD unit to the device which is already switched on; at that time the system will read in and update the entire content of it.
  • Remove the external memory only after you have switched to a different source than USB/microSD or switched off the appliance! Otherwise, the data may be damaged.
  • Do not remove the connected external unit during playback!
  • By inserting the memory unit, playback will start from the first track. If you have listened to it previously, and it hasn’t been removed, then the playback will continue from the last played track, even if the appliance has been switched off in the meantime.
  • The USB and microSD device can only be inserted in one way. If it stops, turn it over and try again; do not force it.
  • Pay attention to the storage device, extending from the appliance not to disturb you in safe driving, and do not shove or break it! It is recommended to use microSD card preferably, since it can be used more safely.
  • If you leave the external storage in the vehicle in extreme heat or cold, it can get injured. • Abnormal operation may be caused by the individual characteristics of the storage device; this is not a sign of product malfunction.

ID3 Tag” MP3 and WMA text accompanying information
At the same time as the file is playing, e.g., the elapsed time, the song number, the total number of songs and the directory, can be automatically displayed if it was pre-recorded when the audio file was created.

  • The display takes place simultaneously with 4 characters and automatically alternates. The text information generally includes the following: the song title, album name, artist name.
  • Labels will appear only, when the file contains such ones. These kind of text information can be assigned with given song, while the file is created. If  the file does not have such accompanying information, or not all displayable data is recorded, then they won’t appear on the display.
  • Occasionally, you may find that certain characters appear incorrectly or not at all. This is mainly affected on the special or accented characters and not the fault of the appliance. ID3 Tag function may be affected by the audio file creator programme and its settings. If different tracks were created by different compressing programmes and have different settings, then displayable text information may differ by tracks. Abnormal operation may be caused by the individual characteristics of the storage device; this is not a sign of product malfunction

Charging mobile devices
Of the two USB sockets, only the one on the right is suitable for charging mobile phones, navigation, etc. It is forbidden to connect such a device to the USB socket on the left, as it is designed to accept only USB media for music playback. Therefore only one device can be charged at a time. Charging may be slower by using a lower power, smaller cross-section charging cable. It is recommended to use the factory cable of the mobile device.

AUX IN – Stereo sound input
With the help of a stereo plug with 3.5 mm diameter, you can connect such external device to the AUX input, located on the front panel, which has earphone or audio output. You can listen to this portable appliance through the speakers of the car in high sound quality, if you select the AUX operationmode with MOD button. Connectible devices: e.g.: mobile phone, multimedia player, CD/DVD player, navigation…

  • It is important to have proper volume and tone settings of playback appliance to achieve high sound quality.
  • Purchasing of external adapter may needed to connect such devices which have audio output different from 3.5 mm  diameter.

The app will only work if you have previously connected the radio and the phone app to each other. In this case, there are two simultaneous wireless BT connections between the car radio and the mobile phone. One transmits the stereo sound from the phone to the radio (A2DP is shown on the display in BT mode), the other provides remote control and two-way communication of the radio from the phone. So when you connect the phone and radio together, you need to connect two profiles; the car radio and the SmartBT iPlug app. The app is provided free of charge by a third party. When the appliance is launched, the following functions will be available. Manufacturer or third party developments and software updates may result in changes to some functions and operation. The manufacturer of this product has no control over the functionality of the application that is generally available for use with various products. The car radio can be used as a full-equipped media player without the application.

  2. When four speakers are used:
    • A., If both the front and rear speakers are built into the doors (or otherwise isolated from each other, such as in a sound box), then the polarity of either speaker in both the front and rear should be reversed.
    • B., If the front speakers are built into the doors but the rear speakers are built into the hat rack panel, then only the polarity of either front speaker should be reversed. The rear speakers’ wires should remain unaltered.
