VODALAND 2 Inch Geo Ground Grid

VODALAND 2 Inch Geo Ground Grid

Introduction

The Vodaland Geo Ground Grid serves one primary function, which is to hold in place aggregates such as:sand, stone, gravel, soil, mulch, wood chips, etc. Due to its compatibility with varying aggregates, the Geo Ground Grid proves useful in many different applications. Its main purpose is erosion control and is most often used for parking lots, retaining walls, driveways, and farming projects. With so many different applications, the grid comes in 3 size options to account for project limitations:

Inch Geo Ground Grid:

It is used most often for projects that are on flat ground and only see pedestrian traffic. Can be incredibly useful in situations where space is limited.

Best for:

  • Walkways
  • Gardening Areas
  • Pathways
  • Light Shed Bases
  • Flat Terrain or Slopes up to 10 Degrees

Inch Geo Ground Grid:

Is the most commonly purchased since it is the perfect middle ground between load capacity and overall size. Has the ability to withstand vehicle loads and can be installed on slopes up to 33 Degrees.

Is the most commonly purchased since it is the perfect middle ground between load capacity and overall size. Has the ability to withstand vehicle loads and can be installed on slopes up to 33 Degrees.

Best for:

  • Heavy Shed Bases
  • Horse Paddocks / Livestock Areas
  • Light Vehicle Parking Pads
  • Slopes up to 33 Degrees

It is the largest size offered and is used for the more heavy-duty projects. It can withstand extreme loads and can be used on steep slopes.

Best for:

  • Retaining Walls
  • Driveways
  • Slopes up to 45 Degrees

Things Needed for Installation:

  • Geo Ground Grid
  • Scissors/Utility Knife
  • Aggregate (Grass, Soil, Gravel)
  • Vodaland J-Hook Rebar Stakes (Optional) or Plastic Anchors
  • Geotextile Fabric (Optional)

Preparation

The site preparation method changes depending on the type of project being completed:

  • Driveway / Parking Pad Prep
The first step is to make sure you flatten and tamp down the ground. The geo grid will contour to the level or foundation of your current ground, so make sure it is levelled to your preference. We do recommend a two-to-three-inch gravel base, which will provide a good foundation for the grid to be installed on.

  • Walking Path / Landscape Prep
All that is required for this project type is to flatten the area to your preference. No foundation is necessary but it is always helpful. If you plan on using our geo-textile for weed control, make sure that the fabric extends one-to-two inches wider than the grid itself.

  • Retaining Wall Prep
It is important for this project type that your base is level and tamped down. A non-levelled base can affect the angle at which the retaining wall sits. The aggregate for each level must be packed tight before continuing on to the next layer.

  • Shed Base / Horse Paddock Prep
This project type follows the same steps as driveways and parking pads. The important note for this preparation method is to clear all debris before hand tamping down. Backyards and farming areas see a lot of debris collect on the ground throughout the day and you want your base to be swept clean before laying the grid.

Installation

Once initial prep work is complete, fully stretch out the grid within the installation area before anchoring. Making sure the size is what you wish it to be. If there is any excess area of grid, you can trim off the remainder, but make sure you keep the geo grid cells fully intact if you are filling them. To trim, use some good scissors, hedge clips, or a utility knife.

  1. Start by anchoring down one full length of the grid with Vodaland’s J-hook rebar stakes. Anchoring down each or every other cell firmly. You will use this as the point that the grid will be pulled and stretched from. If your project doesn’t allow for metal stakes, we also offer plastic anchors as an alternative.

  2. Anchor down a perpendicular side (not the opposite side) of the grid. Work your way around the grid in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction and fully stretch the border before anchoring down. You want this grid to be nice and tight before you fill, or you will get collapsing cells within the grid when you are filling.

  3. Once the grid is fully stretched and anchored, make sure the entire thing is tight and firm. You should be able to “flick” the grid and have it snap back tight (like a guitar string).

  4. The Fill: You can dump and pour directly on the grid, spreading it out as you go along. If you have a long and
lengthy driveway, you can dump the first load in front of the pouring vehicle and tamp it down, allowing the vehicle to immediately drive over it. You can then repeat this process along the entire grid.

  5. Overfill: If you wish to overfill your geo grid, that is completely fine. However, we do recommend only ½-1 inch of overfill as that is going to be considered loose gravel. The looser the gravel, the more possibilities for erosion.

  6. Pack and Finish: Usually just driving or walking on the filled grid will pack it down enough over time. We do recommend at least a hand tamp after installation is finished

FAQ’s

Can I go around curves?

Yes, you can bend and twist and go around any curves or even in a circle! Just make sure you trim accordingly and and anchor tight.

What size gravel do I use?

If driving on the grid, we recommend 3/4 crushed or larger. NO PEA GRAVEL! Smaller round stone is used to absorb weight, not withhold it. You can also use a very fine crush and run or small chopped gravel that is packable.

Can I cut this?

Absolutely, our geogrid is super easy to cut and trim how you want it to be during your installation. We recommend using good solid scissors, or hedge sheers (the ones you use on bushes). A utility knife can work too.

How do I use multiple grids for one project?

If your project is larger than the size of one grid, you can use multiple together. All that is required is to zip-tie the grids together by looping through the holes in each grid.
