Installation Guide
Read the entire manual thoroughly before beginning your installation. Take
note of the safety tips and follow all steps to ensure your system is
installed correctly before use. Installation needs to comply with state and
local laws and regulations; you must check and comply with all local plumbing
codes. Warning: Massachusetts, USA, require installation by a licensed
plumber. (plumbing code 248-CMR of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts)
Hand Tools Required
Essential hand tools are needed to install the SimPure® DB Whole House Filter
Housing. An electric drill and drill bits suitable for mounting the filter
bracket to the wall. Adjustable wrench, cross-head screwdriver (Phillips),
Pipe cutter, or hacksaw
Plan your Installation
SimPure® DB Water Filter Housing needs to be installed in a protected area
away from direct sunlight and frost on the incoming water supply pipe for your
property, like a basement or utility room.
Check Space Requirements
Choose a position after the water meter and after any pressure tanks (if
applicable). Determine and check the filter housing’s size and position for
proper installation into the chosen space and remember to leave enough space
around the system for changing filters and maintenance. If mounting close to
the ground, don’t forget to leave at least 2-inches of clearance between the
filter bowl and the floor to allow access to drop the filter bowl and change
the filter cartridge.
Site Preparation
Before starting the installation, Isolate the cold-water supply.
Install filter cartridge in housing before proceeding with the installation.
Install mounting bracket to the head of the filter housing using the four
provided screws
Wrap the Teflon tape around pipe threads of each fitting in a clockwise direction about ten times
Install Push Fittings to the inlet and outlet and tighten it with a wrench. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN.
Measure the length (shown as X on diagram) across assembled fittings and subtract 2-inches (SO mm) if you are installing on 1 inch (25 mm) pipe. Mark section of pipe to be removed.
Using a pipe cutter or hacksaw, remove the marked section of the pipe. Remove burrs to ensure a smooth surface without scratches. Align filter assembly with ends of the pipe, making certain filter head port marked “IN” is facing the incoming water supply. Connect to existing pipework .
CAUTION: If water pipes are used to ground electrical systems, appliances, or phones, be sure to install a jumper wire. (as shown) Contact your local electrician for more information.
After the housing is plumbed in, secure the bracket to the wall using a fixing method suitable to your installation requirements.
It’s essential the housing is secured by the bracket and not just the pipework to support the housing’s operating weight when full of water and to hold the filter head tightly when using the filter bowl wrench when replacing filters.
Once the installation is complete, slowly turn on water supply to the filter housing and depress the red pressure-relief button on the filter head to release trapped air until water starts to come out. Check for leaks. Open the nearest faucet and flush filter for 10-minutes, wait one hour, re-check installation for any leaks and flush again for 10-minutes.
Filter Cartridge Replacement
Turn off the water supply to filter. Depress the red pressure-relief button on top of the filter. Use the wrench to unscrew the filter bowl.
NOTE: If turning off the water supply to the filter will also turn off the water supply to the rest of the home, be sure to fill a bucket of water first to allow you to clean housing after it has been removed.
Locate and remove large 0-ring, wipe clean of lubricant, and set aside. Discard used cartridge. Rinse out the bottom of the filter bowl and fill about 1/3 full with water. Add two tablespoons of bleach and scrub filter head and bowl with nonabrasive sponge or cloth. Rinse thoroughly. Lubricate 0-ring with clean silicone grease. Insert 0-ring back into the groove and smooth into place with finger. Insert new cartridge over standpipe in the bottom of filter bowl, making sure the cartridge is sitting upright (not tilted).
Screw the bowl onto the filter housing head hand tight, then use the wrench to finish turning the bowl so it fits snugly. DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN.
Turn on the water supply slowly to allow filter housing to fill with water. Depress the red pressure-relief button to release trapped air until water starts to come out of the red relief button. Check for leaks before leaving installation.
NOTE: After installing a new cartridge, flush for 10 minutes to drain, if possible, wait one hour, then flush again for 10 minutes before using the water; this will help condition the filter ready for use.
Troubleshooting
| Problem| Possible Solution
1
| | Tap water pressure is too high; make sure it is below 90psi (620kpa). If
too high, fit a pressure regulator.
Leaks between filter head and filter bowl of housing| The O-ring may not be in
place. Clean and lubricate 0- ring with silicone grease. Also, clean the
groove where the O-ring sits. Replace O-ring in the groove above threads.
Screw the bowl back on the filter head securely by hand, then use the wrench
to fit it snugly. Do not over tighten
2
J
| Leaks on inlet/outlet| Wrap the Teflon tape around pipe threads of each
fitting in a clockwise direction, add more tap as necessary for the correct
seal.
connections I Brass fittings may require to tighten ½-turn with a
wrench. Do not over tighten
3| Leaks from the pressure release button| The pressure release button has a
screw under the bracket. Simply tighten that screw and the leaking should
stop.
4
| Water Pressure is slowing after some time| Recommended changing the
cartridges every 6-12 months depending on the amount of contaminants present
in the feedwater supply. If the system has been working correctly and the
water pressure is slowing, it may be time to change the filter cartridge
element. (review cartridge instructions)
5| Water Pressure is slowing immediately after installation when using a
Carbon Cartridge| Check the filter cartridge has not been installed
incorrectly. Make sure the plastic wrapper around the filter has been removed.
Bathtubs, utility sinks, garden hoses, showers, or anything considered high-
flow should avoided for the first 72 hours. Any high-flow situation within the
first 72 hours may cause a temporary carbon blockage. To clear the blockage,
turn off any running water for at least 10 minutes and resume using water at
low or regular flow rates.
6| Water appears cloudy and grey| Water may appear cloudy or grey for
the first 3-5 days after installation due to the tiny air bubbles being purged
from the filters and extra carbon dust in the water. (depended on the filter
cartridge being used)
