Installation Guidelines
This product is intended to be used with Humanscale’s Monitor Arm product line and the following office desk styles placed on a non-skid surface:
- Systems Furniture with panel hung surfaces
- Systems Furniture with a floor mounted panel behind the desk
- Systems Furniture with a desk mounted panel in the rear of the desk
- Back-to-back desks sharing the same frame
When mounting monitor arm and monitor(s) with this product on a freestanding desk/table:
- The freestanding desk/table should have a base that is no less than 30” deep and 66.5” wide
- The freestanding desk/table should be a minimum of 200 lbs and placed on a non-skid surface.
- The tabletop thickness should be no less than 1.2 inches and strong enough to support a minimum weight load of 165lb.
CAUTION: DO NOT ROTATE MONITOR PAST REAR EDGE OF DESK. DOING SO CAN CREATE AN UNSTABLE SITUATION AND MAY CAUSE EQUIPMENT DAMAGE OR PERSONAL INJURY.

Assembly Instructions
Installing M/Connect Onto Edge of Table
Clamp Mount
A – For installation on open edge of work surface:
- Slide Mount against work surface edge. ①
- Fully tighten Clamp screws(A) with 4mm hex key (B). ②
B – For installation on work surface positioned against a wall or through a
grommet hole:
NOTE: Grommet holes must be at least 3” wide
- Remove the two screws using hex key and detach the clamp foot bracket from the L bracket. ①
- Place the L bracket through the desk gap or the grommet hole and slide it towards the front as far as possible. ②
- Underneath the work surface, reattach the clamp foot bracket to the L bracket using the screws from step 1.③
- Fully tighten the clamp feet against the work surface.
Sliding Desk Mount
- Slide unit with loosely mounted bracket against work surface edge. ①
- Tighten both set screws(B) evenly into bracket to a snug fit. ②
Bolt-Through Mount

Drill 1/2” hole in desired location
NOTE: To ensure M/Connect makes full contact with desk, locate hole at least 2” away from back edge of desk. -
Lower M/Connect onto desk aligning bolt with hole. ③

Slide the Bolt-Through Plate (C) over the bolt and tighten the nut ④

Place the protective cap (D) overthe bottom of the bolt. ④
Attaching and Removing Dock
- To attach dock, slide onto the clamp bracket (E) until it snaps into place. ①
- To remove dock, pull away from the clamp while applying a slight downwards force. ②
Mounting the M/Connect Dock
Horizontal Alignment
- Screw dock bracket (F) beneath work surface and slide dock in. ③
- Install locking screw (G) through bracket into dock to fully secure. ④
Vertical Alignment
- Screw dock bracket beneath work surface and slide dock in. ①
- Install locking screw (H) through bracket into dock to fully secure. ②
Securing the M/Connect Dock
A – Lock into Dock
1 Use Kensington Lock opening to attach lock. ③
B – Lock Cable Pass-Through
- Orient dock inside bracket to enclose gap (J) ①
- Pass lock cable through gap and loop around table leg or fixed object. ②
- Fasten K-Lock to M/Connect Hub to fully secure. ③

Attaching a Monitor Arm to M/Connect
CAUTION: Maximum weightload of M/Connect is as follows: M2.1: 15.5 lbs. –
M8.1: 28 lbs. – M10: 40 lbs. – M/Flex: 60 lbs. total M10 is not to be used on
M/Flex when mounted to M/Connect DO NOT exceed maximum weight limits.
When used in conjunction with M/Connect, M/Flex Post must be limited to 24
inches.
M2.1/M8.1/M10 Monitor Arm
- Refer to monitor arm instructions to setup Smart Stop Ring.
- Insert Monitor Arm into the base stem until it clicks into place. ①
- Refer to monitor arm instructions to continue installation.
M/Flex Post
- Loosen the two set screws (K) in M/Flex stem.②
- Insert the M/Flex post into the base stem and twist clockwise onto internal bolt until fully seated.③
- Tighten both set screws evenly to secure post. ④
- Refer to monitor arm instructions to continue installation.
Connecting Cables to M/Connect
Bridge Cable
- Plug the bridge cable into the underdesk dock. ①
NOTE: The bridge cable must be fully inserted into dock for M/Connect to function. ②
CAUTION: DO NOT PLUG THE BRIDGE CABLE INTO ANY USB TYPE C PORTS ON THE UPPER HUB. DOING SO CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE M/CONNECT.
Power Cable
- Insert power cable into power jack ①
- LED light (L) will illuminate to indicate power ②
Upstream Cable
- Insert upstream cable through retaining bracket and into hub. ③
- Using a 1.5mm hex key, tighten the two screws to secure the cable.
NOTE: When using USB type C-to-A adapter, make sure to properly align connector head with adapter upon insertion. ④
Installing M/Connect Software
Driver Installation
YOU MUST INSTALL THE NECESSARY DRIVERS ONTO YOUR COMPUTER BEFORE USING
M/CONNECT. THIS WILL ENSURE PROPER OPERATION.
NOTE: For proper installation of the DisplayLink drivers, it is important to
make sure your USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver and Graphics Adapter Driver are
up-to-date.
- Go to http://www.displaylink.com/downloads
- Choose your operation system.
- Download and install the latest driver.
- Ready to go!
Troubleshooting
We recommend following these guidelines as a best practice.
Ensure installation isn’t blocked by a corporate firewall
If your firewall blocks the installation of this driver, corporate users
should contact their systems administrator and have them allow this driver
under their corporate installation standard procedures (MSI Installer),
available for download from DisplayLink’s website.
Individual users should ensure that suggestions to update other drivers are
followed. This typically includes updating the laptop graphics and USB drivers
to the latest version.
Updating the host graphics drivers to the latest version: For Windows 7, USB
laptop drivers are provided by Intel/OEM notebook vendors. Users have to
update this manually. Please
refer to http://support.displaylink.com for more details. For Windows 8
onwards, laptop drivers are provided by Microsoft and updated in the system
via Windows update.
For the best user experience, we recommend running the latest version of
the driver.
Replacing the M/Connect Hub (If Applicable)
In the event of damage/failure of the M/Connect Hub
- Using the guide below, determine if your M/Connect Hub is removable.
- Disconnect the bridge cable from the M/Connect Dock. ③
- Disconnect the power and upstream cables from the M/Connect Hub. ④
- Remove the two security screws from the rear side of the unit using a 2mm hex key. ⑤
- Slide the M/Connect Hub towards the front of the desk and lift to remove. ⑥
- Install the replacement hub and fasten with the two security screws.
- Reconnect all cables.
NOTICE: Removable hub must be fully installed prior to turning on the unit.
