SURE PETCARE HRPG1N Universal Microchip Reader

Product Information

The Universal Microchip Reader, model no. HRPG1N is a device designed to read various types of microchips. It is compatible with FDX microchips that adhere to the ISO11784/11785 standards. Additionally, it can read temperature-sensing microchips, which not only serve as identification microchips but also have a built-in temperature biosensor to measure an animal’s temperature at the implantation site.

The reader features an LCD display that shows the microchip number, battery level indicator, and microchip temperature (for temperature-sensing microchips). The display also includes icons to indicate the search for a pet’s microchip or if the temperature reading is out of range.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. 1. **What’s in the box?**

  1. 1. * A. Remove the battery cover by pressing the arrow and sliding it away from the center.
    • B. Insert the batteries, ensuring that the – and + symbols are correctly aligned.
  2. Scanning a pet

To scan a pet using the Universal Microchip Reader:

  1. 1. * A. Press the button on the reader to turn it on. It will automatically turn off when not in use.
    • B. Press the button again and move the reader around the animal, following one of the motion patterns detailed below to locate the microchip.
    • C. When the reader detects a microchip, it will display its number and, if applicable, the Microchip Temperature.
  2. motion patterns

There are two scanning patterns to locate a microchip on an animal’s body:

  1. 1. * A. Scanning Pattern 1 – Move the reader slowly from side to side across the animal’s body.
    • B. Scanning Pattern 2 – Move the reader slowly up and down across the animal’s body.
  2. display

The LCD display on the Universal Microchip Reader shows:

  1. * A. Microchip 15-digit number
    • B. Battery level indicator
    • C. Microchip Temperature (only for temperature-sensing microchips)

Please note that the microchip temperature is not a replacement for rectal temperature measurement and should not be interpreted as such. It is also important to exercise discretion and observe all safety measures required by law and common sense when using the Universal Microchip Reader.

Important information

It is your responsibility to exercise discretion and observe all safety measures required by law and common sense. Please read the following information carefully and retain this manual for future reference.

  • Your HRPG1N is for indoor use only.
  • The HRPG1N requires 2 good quality 1.5 V LR6 alkaline “AA” cells to operate. The product is not designed for use with rechargeable batteries.
  • Always change both batteries at the same time and avoid mixing battery types or manufacturers.
  • Non-rechargeable batteries are not to be recharged.
  • To avoid the risk of fire always take care to ensure batteries are fitted the correct way round as marked on the HRPG1N and never short circuit the battery terminals.
  • There is a risk of explosion if the battery is replaced by an incorrect type. Always use good quality batteries from a reputable battery manufacturer to ensure the best performance.
  • Exhausted or out-of-date batteries must be removed and disposed of properly in accordance with local legislation.
  • If the appliance is to be stored unused for a long period, the batteries must be removed.
  • There are no user-serviceable parts other than the battery in the enclosure.
  • Clean the unit with pet-friendly cleaning products and a damp cloth only, do not immerse in water.

Compatible microchips

This is a universal microchip reader which can read the following microchip types:

  • FDX-A Non-ISO microchips
  • FDX-B 15-digit microchips
  • Trovan microchips
  • Avid microchips
  • Thermochip

This reader fully reads FDX microchips which are compliant with the ISO11784/11785 standards.

What are temperature-sensing microchips?
Temperature-sensing microchips are primarily identification microchips, compatible with ISO 11784/11785 and universal readers. However, they also incorporate a temperature biosensor, capable of measuring an animal’s temperature at the implantation site. Temperature-sensing microchips are a non-invasive way of frequently measuring a pet’s temperature, without causing stress. Multiple measurements taken consecutively can establish a trend of individual animal profiles or average temperature and variability. Atypical variations from this trend can be indicative of changes in an animal’s well- being. Microchip temperature is not a replacement for rectal temperature, and should not be interpreted as such. Microchip Temperature and rectal temperature are not equivalent and should not be expected to show identical readings. If an animal with a temperature-sensing microchip is scanned with the Universal Microchip Reader, its internal Microchip Temperature will be visible on the LCD screen alongside its microchip number.

LCD display

SURE-PETCARE-HRPG1N-Universal-Microchip-Reader-FIG-7

  • Displayed when the reader is searching for the pet’s microchip.
  • The scan will time out automatically if no chip is found and the chip number will display as a series of X’s. Pushing the button again will activate another scan.
  • Displayed when the batteries are completely drained. To insert new batteries see page 1.

Changing the temperature unit between °C and °F

To change the temperature setting of the reader, first remove the batteries. Then press and hold the reader’s button while re-inserting the batteries. The temperature will now be displayed in Fahrenheit. To revert to Celsius, repeat the process.

Microchip Temperature is not a replacement for a rectal temperature measurement by a veterinarian, who is the only person qualified to determine your pet’s health condition. Microchip Temperature and rectal temperature, while correlated, are not equivalent and should not be expected to show identical readings.

Disposal of old Products and used Batteries: Either of these symbols on a product indicates it is subject to the following legislation: Directive 2012/19/EU on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) & Directive 2006/66/ EC on Batteries and Accumulators require households to dispose of electrical products and waste batteries in an environmentally responsible manner.
