WIRE CONNECTIONS

  1. Loosen screws on the wire connector terminal strip.
  2. Insert wire end and secure.
  3. Do not over-tighten.
    • Consult your car stereo owner’s manual to determine the correct stereo wire functions.
    • Verify all wires in your vehicle with a digital multimeter before making connections.
    • Do not work with more than one wire at a time.
    • All wires not referenced in illustrations must be capped or taped off separately.
    • Do not overtighten wire connectors.
    • Optional black ground wire for noise suppression.
NOTE: Using the appropriate Scosche “Car Stereo Connector” (available separately) to adapt to your vehicle’s wiring harness will eliminate having to cut any of your factory wire.

LEVEL ADJUSTMENT

WARNING: IT IS IMPORTANT TO SET ALL GAIN LEVELS AT MINUS ( ) IN ORDER TO PROTECT YOUR SYSTEM. ONLY ADJUST THE PODS APPLICABLE TO YOUR INSTALLATION.

FOR EXAMPLE: For adding an aftermarket stereo to the factory system you will only adjust “factory amp gain” controls.
CAUTION: GAIN CONTROL ADJUSTMENTS ARE FRAGILE, DO NOT FORCE. A SLIGHT ADJUSTMENT WILL CHANGE VOLUME DRAMATICALLY. TO PREVENT DAMAGE DO NOT PRESS DOWN WHILE ROTATING LEVEL CONTROLS.
TO ADJUST:

  1. Turn STEREO on and adjust the volume to about 3/4 of the stereo’s maximum volume.
  2. Carefully turn the four (4) gain controls up (by turning them clockwise from the minus position) on the SLC-4 until the sound is just above your normal listening volume or near distortion. Distortion is when the sound/music breaks up, becomes garbled, or unclear.
  3. All four (4) gain adjustments should be set at the same level. (Gain needs to be turned in the same direction.)
  4. If there is excessive HUM or HISS between songs, the gain levels are set TOO HIGH and should be turned down (back toward minus).

NOTE: LEVEL ADJUSTMENTS APPLY TO ALL ILLUSTRATIONS!

A “common ground system” uses a single ground point for all of the speakers in the vehicle. This type of grounding system will not work with most car stereos due to the higher power output. These types of systems are found on older vehicles manufactured from 1968 to around 1995 (usually Ford).
To determine if you have a common ground system you will need to check the speaker wires at the factory stereo. If you have a four (4) speaker system and there are less than eight (8) speaker wires you have a “common grounding system”. Please refer to the illustration BELOW.

TROUBLESHOOTING

NO SOUND:

  • Recheck wiring. Check power and ground connections on the radio and amp.

  • Be sure the amp turn on/ remote wire is connected. It should be connected to the factory amp remote wire.

  • Check the switch position. Depending on the factory system it may be necessary to try a different mode. (Usually “Common Ground”).

  • With some Ford premium sound or Delco Bose common ground systems, it may be necessary to use the “Common Ground” or “Line Out” switch position.

  • Check the gain adjustments; make sure they are not turned all the way down.
    NOISE:

  • Ground the SLC-4’s reference ground wire to vehicle chassis ground.

These suggestions should help you get sound in all modes of the SLC-4. If you still get no sound, call technical support at 1-800-621-3695 x3.
