Downpipe Diverter

Rectangular

The Downpipe Diverter is a rainwater harvesting system that allows you to collect water from your home’s downpipe for use in your garden or home. It comes in two sizes: 100x75mm (Australia) and 100x50mm (USA) or 2×3 (USA) and 3×4 (Australia). The system consists of a Slip Coupling, Flow Diverter, Downpipe Diverter, Leaf Filter, Hose Adaptor, Top Adaptor, and Bottom Adaptor. It is easy to install and maintain.

Installation

To install the Downpipe Diverter, follow these steps:

  1. Check that you have all the tools and materials required, including a tape measure, marker pen, saw, and spirit level.
  2. Insert the Downpipe Diverter into the downpipe by cutting out a section of the downpipe and inserting it into the Slip Coupling.
  3. Attach the Flow Diverter to the Downpipe Diverter using the Hose Adaptor. Make sure that the Flow Diverter is facing in the right direction.
  4. Attach the Leaf Filter to the top of the Downpipe Diverter using the Top Adaptor.
  5. Attach the Bottom Adaptor to the bottom of the Downpipe Diverter using a screwdriver.
  6. Make sure that everything is level and secure.

Maintenance

To maintain the Downpipe Diverter, periodically lift the Slip Coupling to remove any leaves that may have become lodged on the
Filter. The body of the Downpipe Diverter and the Filter can be easily removed by hand. After cleaning the unit, simply return it back into place. The frequency of inspections will depend on the environment around you. For example, if you are in a high leaf area, inspections should occur more regularly.

HOW IT WORKS

  1.  Select a position to install your downpipe diverter which wil allow a smooth path for the hose to your barrel. If you are using the inlet hose to limit the height of water within your barrel, ensure the outlet is below the top of the rain barrel. Mark the lower cut point (A).

    • If using 100x75mm pipe, A= Approx. 115mm
    • If using 100x50mm pipe, A= Approx. 115mm
    • If using 3×4” pipe, A = Approx 3” (76mm)
    • If using 2×3” pipe with the included adaptor, A = 5” (127mm)
  2. Then mark the top cut, and remove the section of pipe (B). Ensure all cut edges are clean and smooth.

    • If using 100x75mm pipe, B= Approx. 217mm
    • If using 100x50mm pipe, B= Approx. 238mm
    • If using 3×4” pipe, B = Approx. 7 3/8”
    • If using 2×3” pipe with the included adaptor, B = Approx. 9 3/8”
  3. Determine whether the Flow Diverter will be used to maximum water capture. If you have a rainhead or gutter mesh upstream to filter out large debris, the Flow Diverter is recommended. If you have no upstream rainhead or gutter mesh, do not use the Flow Diverter. You will still catch a high flow of water. The Flow Diverter snaps in/out of the Upper Slip Coupling.

  4. Installing the Downpipe Diverter:
    100 x 50mm, 100x75mm or 2 x 3” Downpipe

    • Slide the Base Adaptor onto the lower section of pipe.

    • Press the Top Adaptor into the Slip coupling.

    • Slide the Slip Coupling/Top Adaptor onto the upper section of cut pipe and hold it in position.

    • Insert the Downpipe Diverter onto the pipe (no glue required). Then lower the Slip Coupling/Adaptor back into position, sliding it into the Diverter.
      3 x 4” Downpipe

    • Slide the Slip Coupling onto the upper section of cut pipe and hold it in position.

    • Insert the Downpipe Diverter onto the pipe (no glue required). Then lower the Slip Coupling back into position, sliding it into the Diverter.

  5. Screw on either the 12mm (½”) or 32mm (1 ¼”) hose fitting onto the nozzle.

  6. Connect the hose to your rain barrel or rainwater tank as required.
