USER’S MANUAL – CBC-5 ba ery charger
Please read the instruc#on manual carefully before using this charger.

Operating instructions.
CAUTION: Lead-Acid batteries can emit explosive gases when charged.
Prevent sparks and fire sources close to the battery. Provide good ventilation
— appliance should be used only in well ventilated areas.
Typical charge:

Connect the charger connectors to corresponding battery terminals. It is recommended to connect the positive connector before connecting the negative. Preserve correct polarity (+/-). If the battery is installed inside a vehicle disconnecting negative (chassis/ground) clamp from the battery is advised.

Ensure that the charger connectors have been connected properly and securely. Connect the charger to AC mains power source. The LCD display will light up. Do not attempt to start the engine with the charger connected — this can cause serious malfunction.

Battery voltage is indicated on the LCD display.
If the battery voltage is below 1.5V or above 16V no further action will be allowed due to safety reasons.
Note: CBC-5 charger automatically detects battery type and after 3s of user inactivity it will automatically start charge process with 0.8A current.
3.1. Voltage range of 1.5-.5.0V corresponds to deeply discharged 6V battery.
Pressing “MODE” button will activate 6V battery automatic charge programme. The charger will start battery recovery programme until S.OV voltage is reached on the battery.
3.2. Voltage range of 5.0-7.5V corresponds to 6V battery.
Pressing “MODE” button will activate 6V battery automatic charge programme with 0.8A charging current.
3.3. Voltage range of 7.5-10.5V corresponds to deeply discharged 12V battery.
Pressing “MODE” button will activate 12V battery automatic charge programme. The charger will start battery recovery programme until 10.5V voltage is reached on the battery.
3.4. Voltage range of 10.5-16V corresponds to 12V battery.
Pressing “MODE” button will activate 12V battery soft charge (0.8A) programme.
Pressing again “MODE” button will activate 12V battery regular charge (3.8A) programme.
Additional operating mode can be activated with next press of “MODE” button. It will raise the full charge cut-off voltage from 14.4V to 14.8V (only for 12V batteries). It may improve charging efficiency in low temperature (close to 0 Celsius degrees) conditions. This mode can be also used to fully charge some AGM rechargeable batteries (refer to battery’s manual for further information). -
Charging progress is indicated on LCD — flashing battery/bar symbols. When the charge is finished, a solid full battery symbol will be indicated.
The charge termination voltage is 7.3V for a 6V battery and 14.4/14.8V for a 12V battery. -
Fully charged battery is monitored and in case of a voltage drop, the charging process will be automatically restarted.

When the charging process is finished disconnect the charger from AC mains power source, next disconnect negative connector from the battery. Next, disconnect the positive connector.
Charge stages description:
- Battery recovery function. When low voltage (1.5-5V for 6V battery and 7.5-10.5V for 12V battery) is detected on the connected battery the charger automatically switches to recovery mode. High frequency pulses are used to recondition the battery. When the voltage reaches 5V/10.5V, the charger will continue to charge according to preselected programme.
- Charging the battery. In this step the charger uses preselected programme with default current to charge the battery. Battery voltage is continuously monitored.
- Topping up the battery. To prevent gas emission and or heating up of the battery, charge current is gradually reduced from 3.8A to about 0.5-0.8A towards the end of process.
- End of charge, maintenance charge. The charge process is terminated when the battery voltage reaches cut-off value of 14.4V/14.8V for 12V battery or 7.3V for 6V battery. The charge state of the battery is continuously monitored. When the self-discharge occurs, smart charge is reapplied automatically to maintain full charge state.
Notice:
- In case of a bad battery connection or other fatal error the charger stops operating. The failure indicator will light up.
- In case of a AC power source break / reconnection, the charger will automatically recover and start recharging if necessary.
- In case of a quick temperature increase, charger will reduce output power for maximum safety. It protects the appliance from damages.
- CBC-5 charger is equipped with a unique 9- stage charging scheme with improved maintenance program when the charger is left connected to a battery for a longer time periods. For details you can refer to the scheme on page 2. Last two stages are repeated continuously depending on battery condition, as long as the charger is connected to a battery.
- Regular supervision of charging process is advised.
Safety instructions:
- Read the instructions before using this charger.
- The mains socket outlet must be close to the equipment and easily accessible.
- This charger is intended for use only with 6V/12V batteries – VRLA, AGM, VLA, SLA, WET, GEL, LEAD ACID. Always check battery’s manual for technical specification, charger recommendation and safety precautions. Attempting to charge other types of batteries may cause personal injury, damage to the charger or lead to a fire and/or explosion.
- The charger is intended for indoor use only. Exposure to any liquids or moisture can cause damage to the charger and battery. Do not allow foreign objects to enter the charger. This could result in electrical shock or fire.
- Disconnect the charger from the power socket when not in use.
- Never use an extension cord or any attachment not recommended by the manufacturer.
- Do not operate the charger if it has been subjected to shock or damage. Take it to a qualified serviceman for repair.
- Do not attempt to disassemble the charger as it may result in a risk of electric shock or fire.
- Unplug the charger from the power supply before attempting any cleaning. Use only a soft damp cloth. Do not use water, detergents or alcohol.
- This appliance can be used by children from 8 years and above and people with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved.
- Children must not play with the appliance. Cleaning and maintenance by the user must not be performed by children, unless they are over 8 years old and supervised.
- Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children aged less than 8 years.

- Never charge a frozen or damaged battery.
- Never place the charger on top of the battery. Do not cover the charger when in use.
- Never use the charger with a damaged power cord. Risk of electric shock.
- Danger of acid burns. Using safety goggles and protective gloves is advised. In the event of contact with electrolyte rinse the eyes or skin immediately with copious amounts of clean running water and consult a doctor without delay.
