SCHLAGE FE410F Control Smart Deadbolt Instruction Manual

Tools Needed

• Tape Measure

• Pencil

• Drill and Drill Bits
  Bit Sizes: Z\,”, 1”

• Hole Saws 1”, 2Z\,”

• Chisel
  

• Hammer

Measure door thickness

If the door is thinner than 1C\,” or thicker than 1C\v”, then the lock will not fit properly on the door.

Mark lock centerlines

• Mark bottom centerline on door face, door edge and door jamb.
  

• Mark top centerline on door face, door edge and door jamb.
  
  Locks are ordered as either 4” or 5Z\x”.

Prepare cross bores

• Measure backset and mark center of holes.
  

• Drill holes with hole saw.
  

Prepare door edge holes

• Measure and mark Z\x door thickness.
  

• Drill holes in door edge.
  

Mortise for latch and bolt

• Insert latch into door edge hole. Trace latch faceplate and mark holes.
  

• Remove latch and bolt. Drill four Z\,” pilot holes.
  

• Use chisel and hammer to create mortise for latch and bolt.
  

Measure, mark and drill holes in door jamb for strikes

• Mark center for strike holes exactly opposite latch and bolt holes.
  

• For the bolt strike, measure, mark and drill two (2) 1” holes, 1 1\4” deep, as shown. Chisel out excess material on the sides.
  

• For the latch strike, measure, mark and drill two (2) 1” holes, Z\x” deep, as shown. Chisel out excess material on the sides.
  

Mortise for latch and bolt strike

• Trace latch strike and bolt reinforcement plate. Mark holes.
  

• Drill six (6) 1\4” pilot holes.
  

• Use chisel and hammer to create mortise for strikes and reinforcement plate.
  
  Mortise for latch strike extends all the way to the edge of the jab to allow for the latch lip.
