WARNING

The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded)
power tool.
Work area Safety
- Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite acidents.
- Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
- Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
Electrical Safety
- Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with grounded power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
- Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is grounded.
- Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
- Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.
- Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use.
- Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protected supply. Use of a GFCI reduces the risk of electric shock.
Personal Safety
- Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
- Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
- Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the Trigger is in the off-position before connecting to power source, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying pOwer tools with your finger on the Trigger or energiZing power tools that have the Trigger on invites accidents.
- Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
- Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
- Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
- If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
- Only use safety equipment that has been approved by an appropriate standards agency. Unapproved safety equipment may not provide adequate protection. Eye protection must be ANSI-approved and breathing protection must be NIOSH-approved for the specific hazards in the work area
Power Tool Use and Care
- Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
- Do not use the power tool if the Trigger does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the Trigger is dangerous and must be repaired.
- Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
- Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
- Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
- Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Property maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
- Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
Service
Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only
identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power
tool is maintained.
Circular Saw Safety Warnings
-
DANGER : Keep hands away from cutting area and the blade. Keep your second hand on auxiliary handle, or motor housing. If both hands are holding the saw, they cannot be cut by the blade.
-
Do not reach underneath the workpiece. The guard cannot protect you from the blade below the workpiece.
-
Adjust the cutting depth to the thickness of the workpiece. Less than a full tooth of the blade teeth should be visible below the workpiece.
-
Never hold piece being cut in your hands or across your leg. Secure the workpiece to a stable platform. It is important to support the work properly to minimize body exposure, blade binding, or loss of control.
-
Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operatioon where the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Contact with a “ive” wire will also make exposed metal parts of the power tool “live” and shock the operator.
-
When ripping always use a fence or straight edge guide. This improves the accuracy of cut and reduces the chance of blade binding.
-
Always use blades with correct size and shape (diamond versus round) of arbor holes. Blades that do not match the mounting hardware of the saw will run eccentrically, causing loss of control.
-
Never use damaged or incorrect blade washers or bolt. The blade washers and bolt were specially designed for your saw, for optimumperformance and safety of operation.

Causes and Operator Prevention of Kickback:
-
Maintain a firm grip with both hands on the saw and position your arms to resist kickback forces. Position your body to either side of the blade, but not in line with the blade. Kickback could cause the saw to jump backwards, butkickback forces can be controlled by the operator, if proper precautions are taken.
-
When blade is binding, or when interrupting a cut for any reason, release the Trigger and hold the saw motionless in the material until the blade comes to a complete stop. Never attempt to remove the saw from the work or pull the saw backward while the blade is in motion or kickback may occur. Investigate and take corrective actions to eliminate the cause of blade binding.
-
When restarting a saw in the workpiece, center the saw blade in the kerf and check that saw teeth are not engaged into the material. If saw blade is binding, it may walk up or kickback from the workpiece as the saw is restarted.
-
Support large panels to minimize the risk of blade pinching and kickback. Large panels tend to sag under their own weight. Supports must be placed under the panel on both sides, near the line of cut and near the edge of the panel.
-
Do not use dull or damaged blades. Unsharpened or improperly set blades produce narrow kerf causing excessive friction, blade binding and kickback.
-
Blade depth and bevel adjusting locking levers must be tight and secure before making cut. If blade adjustment shifts while cutting, it may cause binding and kickback.
-
Use extra caution when makinga “plunge cut” into existing walls or other blind areas. The protruding blade may cut objects that can cause kickback.
-
Check lower guard for proper closing before each use. Do not operate the saw if lower guard does not move freely and close instantly. Never clamp or tie the lower guard into the open position. ifsaw is accidentally dropped, lower guard may be bent. Raise the lower guard with the retracting handle and make sure it moves freely and does not touch the blade or any other part, in all angles and depths of cut.

Check the operation of the lower guard spring. If the guard and the spring are not operating properly, they must be serviced before use. Lower guard may operate sluggishly due to damaged parts, gummy deposits, or a build-up of debris.

Lower guard should be retracted manually only for special cuts such as “plunge cuts” and “compound cuts.” Raise lower guard by retracting handle and as soon as blade enters the material, the lower guard must be released. For all other sawing, the lower guard should operate automatically.
-
Always observe that the lower guard is covering the blade before placing saw down on bench or floor. An unprotected, coasting blade will cause the saw to walk backwards, cutting whatever is in its path. Be aware of the time it takes for the blade to stop after Trigger is released.
-

Do not use to cut logs, tree limbs, or uneven lumber.
-
Wet lumber, green (unseasoned) lumber, and pressure treated lumber all have an increased potential for kickback and should only be cut with a blade for cutting that lumber type. Wear a niOSH-approved respirator and have appropriate ventilation whenever cutting pressure treated lumber.

Do not use blades made from high-speed steel, abrasive blades, metal-cutting blades or masonry-cutting blades. The guards of this saw are not designed to protect against the failure of such blades.
-
place the larger portion of the saw base on the larger, supported part of the workpiece. This will help maintain balance and control while the cut is completed.
-
Blades must be rated to at least the maximum speed marked on the tool.
-
Maintain labels and nameplates on the tool. These carry important safety information. If unreadable or missing, contact Harbor Freight Tools for a replacement.
-
Avoid unintentional starting. Prepare to begin work before turning on the tool.
-
Do not lay the tool down until it has come to a complete stop. Moving parts can grab the surface and pull the tool out of your control.
-
When using a handheld power tool, maintain a firm grip on the tool with both hands to resist starting torque.
-
Do not depress the spindle lock when starting or during operation.
-
Do not leave the tool unattended when it is plugged into an electrical outlet. Turn off the tool, and unplug it from its electrical outlet before leaving.
-
Use clamps (not included) or other practical ways to secure and support the workpiece to a stable platform. Holding the work by hand or against your body is unstable and may lead to loss of control.
-
This product is not a toy. Keep it out of reach of children.
-
Verify that there are no utility lines or hardware in or near the workpiece. This is especially critical for plunge cuts.
-
People with pacemakers should consult their physician(s) before use. Electromagnetic fields in close proximity to heart pacemaker could cause pacemaker interference or pacemaker failure. In addition, people with pacemakers should:

Avoid operating alone.

Do not use with Trigger locked on.
-
Properly maintain and inspect to avoid electrical shock.
-
Properly ground power cord.
Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) should also be implemented – it prevents sustained electrical shock. -
The warnings, precautions, and instructions discussed in this instruction manual cannot cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It must be understood by the operator that common sense and caution are factors which cannot be built into this product, but must be supplied by the operator.
Vibration Safety
This tool vibrates during use. Repeated or long-term exposure to vibration may cause temporary or permanent physical injury, particularly to the hands, arms and shoulders. To reduce the risk of vibration-related injury:
- Anyone using vibrating tools regularly or for an extended period should first be examined by a doctor and then have regular medical check-ups to ensure medical problems are not being caused or worsened from use. Pregnant women or people who have impaired blood circulation to the hand, past hand injuries, nervous system disorders, diabetes, or Raynaud’s Disease should not use this tool. If you feel any symptoms related to vibration (such as tingling, numbness, and white or blue fingers), seek medical advice as soon as possible.
- Do not smoke during use. Nicotine reduces the blood supply to the hands and fingers, increasing the risk of vibration-related injury.
- Wear suitable gloves to reduce the vibration effects on the user.
- Use tools with the lowest vibration when there is a choice.
- Include vibration-free periods each day of work.
- Grip tool as lightly as possible (while still keeping safe control of it). Let the tool do the work.
- To reduce vibration, maintain the tool as explained in this manual. If any abnormal vibration occurs, stop use immediately.

Grounding
WARNING

cOnnEctiOn: check with a qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to
whether the outlet is properly grounded. Do not modify the power cord plug
provided with the tool.never remove the grounding prong from the plug. Do not
use the tool if the power cord or plug is damaged. if damaged, have it
repaired by a service facility before use. if the plug will not fit the
outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.
Grounded tools: tools with three prong plugs
-
Tools marked with “Grounding Required” have a three wire cord and three prong grounding plug. The plug must be connected to a properly grounded outlet. If the tool should electrically malfunction or break down, grounding provides a low resistance path to carry electricity away from the
user, reducing the risk of electric shock. -
The grounding prong in the plug is connected through the green wire inside the cord to the grounding system in the tool. The green wire in the cord must be
the only wire connected to the tool’s grounding system and must never be attached to an electrically “live” terminal. -
The tool must be plugged into an appropriate outlet, properly installed and grounded in accordance with all codes and ordinances. The plug and outlet should look like those in the preceding illustration. (See 3-prong plug and Outlet.)
Double insulated tools: tools with two prong plugs
-
Tools marked “Double Insulated” do not require grounding. They have a special double insulation system which satisfies OSHA requirements and complies with
the applicable standards of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., the Canadian Standard Association, and the National Electrical Code. -
Double insulated tools may be used in either of the 120 volt outlets shown in the preceding illustration. (See Outlets for 2-prong plug.)
Extension cords
-
Grounded tools require a three wire extension cord. Double Insulated tools can use either a two or three wire extension cord.
-
As the distance from the supply outlet increases, you must use a heavier gauge extension cord. Using extension cords with inadequately sized wire causes a serious drop in voltage, resulting in loss of power and possible tool damage. (See table a.)
-
The smaller the gauge number of the wire, the greater the capacity of the cord. For example, a 14 gauge cord can carry a higher current than a 16 gauge cord. (See table a.)
-
When using more than one extension cord to make up the total length, make sure each cord contains at least the minimum wire size required. (See table a.)
-
If you are using one extension cord for more than one tool, add the nameplate amperes and use the sum to determine the required minimum cord size. (See table a.)
-
If you are using an extension cord outdoors, make sure it is marked with the suffix “W-A” (“W” in Canada) to indicate
it is acceptable for outdoor use. -
Make sure the extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition. Always replace a damaged extension cord or have it repaired by a qualified electrician before using it.
-
Protect the extension cords from sharp objects, excessive heat, and damp or wet areas.

Mounting and removing Blade
- Hold in the Spindle Lock Button while removing the Blade Bolt with the Hex Wrench, turning it cLOcKWiSE
- Remove the Outer Flange.
- Use the Lower Guard Handle to raise the Lower Guard and remove the Blade. Leave the inner flange in place.
- Remove diamond cutout from center of new blade. Install new Blade (sold separately), with directional arrow on Blade pointing the same as the directional arrow on the Lower Guard.
- Place the Outer Flange on the spindle, recessed side first.
- Hold in the Spindle Lock Button while using the Hex Wrench to replace the Blade Bolt, turning it cOuntErcLOcKWiSE.
adjusting Depth
- Set the Base flat against the edge of the workpiece.
- Loosen the Depth Lock Lever to allow the depth of cut to be adjusted.
- Use the Depth Scale located behind the housing to set depth of cut. WarninG! to reduce the risk of serious injury, adjust the depth of cut to just barely clear the workpiece and remove shavings.
- After adjustment, tighten the Depth Lock Lever.
cautiOn! tighten Depth Lock Lever before use.
adjusting Bevel
- Loosen the Bevel Lock Lever to allow the angle of cut to be adjusted.
- Use the Bevel Scale to set the desired angle.
- After adjustment, tighten the Bevel Lock Lever.
cautiOn! tighten Bevel Lock Lever before use.
installing and adjusting Fence

to install : Remove Fence Lock Nut, slide ruler through slots, then replace Fence Lock Nut.
-
to adjust : Loosen Fence Lock Nut and slide the Fence to the desired width of cut.
note : The ruler on the fence shows the approximate width of cut. -
If needed, remove the Fence entirely. Otherwise, tighten the Fence Lock Nut after adjustment.
cautiOn! tighten Fence Lock nut before use.
Workpiece and Work area Set up
- Workpiece selection:
- Workpiece must be free of foreign objects and loose knots.
- Do not use to cut logs, tree limbs, or uneven lumber.
- Wet lumber, green (unseasoned) lumber, and pressure treated lumber all have an increased potential for kickback and should only be cut with a blade designed for cutting that lumber. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator and have appropriate ventilation whenever cutting pressure treated lumber.
- Designate a work area that is clean and well lit. The work area must not allow access by children or pets to prevent distraction and injury.
- Route the power cord along a safe route to reach the work area without creating a tripping hazard or exposing the power cord to possible damage. The power cord must reach the work area with enough extra length to allow free movement while working.
- Secure loose workpieces using a vise or clamps (not included) to prevent movement while working.
- There must not be objects, such as utility lines, nearby that will present a hazard while working. This is especially critical for plunge cuts.
General Operating instructions

BEFORE EACH USE, check oil level:
-
Set Saw for maximum depth.
-
Place Saw on flat, level surface.
-
Remove Oil Plug. Rotate Blade using safety gloves. Check gears in fill hole while rotating Blade. If no oil shows as gears turn, add oil.
-
Add 85W-140 gear oil or equivalent until it runs out of the Oil Plug hole.
-
Replace Oil Plug.
-
Make sure Trigger Lock is disengaged.
-
Make all necessary depth and angle adjustments.
-
Make sure that the Trigger is in the off-position, then plug in the tool.
-
Make sure that all guards are in place and in proper working order and that all adjustment knobs are tight before operation.
-
Firmly grip the Handle with one hand and the Auxiliary Handle with the other hand. Then, squeeze the Trigger.
-
Allow the Blade to reach full speed before feeding the Blade into the workpiece.
cautiOn! Make straight cuts only. Do not attempt to twist the Saw to the right or left while cutting. If this occurs, the Blade will “bind” in the workpiece causing kickback, potential injury, and/or damage to the workpiece and Saw. -
Do not force the Saw to remove material faster than it is designed to cut. Feed the Blade gradually into the workpiece.
-
Release the Trigger if the Blade is to be backed out of an uncompleted cut. When turning off the Saw, allow the Blade to fully stop on its own before removing the Saw. Do not press against the Blade to stop it.
-
Once the cutting job is completed, release the Trigger and wait until the Blade stops spinning.
-
To prevent accidents, turn off the tool and unplug it after use. Clean, then store the tool indoors out of children’s reach.
Maintenance and Servicing
procedures not specifically explained in this manual must be performed only by a qualified technician.

cleaning, Maintenance, and Lubrication
- BEFOrE EacH uSE, inspect the general condition of the tool. Check for:
- loose hardware,
- misalignment or binding of moving parts,
- cracked or broken parts,
- damaged electrical wiring, and
- any other condition that may affect its safe operation.
- BEFOrE EacH uSE, check oil level:
- Set Saw for maximum depth.
- Place Saw on flat, level surface.
- Remove Oil Plug. Rotate Blade using safety gloves. Check gears in fill hole while rotating Blade. If no oil shows as gears turn, add oil.
- Add 85W-140 gear oil or equivalent until it runs out of the Oil Plug hole.
- Replace Oil Plug.
- aFtEr uSE, wipe external surfaces of the tool with clean cloth and a mild detergent. Do not use solvents. Do not immerse Saw in liquid.
- aFtEr FirSt 10 HOurS OF uSE, change the oil.
- WarninG! tO prEVEnt SEriOuS inJury: if the supply cord of this power tool is damaged, it must be replaced only by a qualified service technician.

This warranty does not apply to damage due directly or indirectly, to misuse, abuse, negligence or accidents, repairs or alterations outside our facilities, criminal activity, improper installation, normal wear and tear, or to lack of maintenance. We shall in no event be liable for death, injuries to persons or property, or for incidental, contingent, special or consequential damages arising from the use of our product. To take advantage of this warranty, the product or part must be returned to us with transportation charges prepaid.
