Lighting the gas grill
NOTE:
- The lid must be open when lighting the burners.
- Do not lean over the burner when lighting.
Lighting the pilot flame (main burner and side burner)
- Put all the gas controls in the OFF position and open the valve on the gas cylinder.
- To light, press and hold the knob A for 3–5 seconds to release the gas and then turn anticlockwise to position HIGH (B). A spark is then released in the burner tube (C). A clicking noise is heard from the lighter and an orange flame can be seen by the burner tube to the left of the burner (D).
- Keep the knob pressed for 2 more seconds after the clicking noise so that the gas manages to fill the burner tube (E) and light.
- When the burner is lit the adjacent burner will light when the corresponding knob is set to position HIGH.
- In position HIGH the flame is orange and 12–20 mm long. Turn the knob anticlockwise as far as it goes for the lowest setting.
- If the automatic lighting does not work remove the grill rack and flame guard, turn the valve 90° anticlockwise and light with a grill lighter by holding it 5 mm from the burner opening. Replace the grill rack and flame guard when the burner is lit Use heat resistant safety gloves/grill gloves.
WARNING!
If the burner still does not light, turn the knob to the OFF position. Wait 5
minutes so that the gas disperses, and try again.
Tips for saving gas
- Open the lid as little as possible and as briefly as possible.
- Turn off the product as soon as you have finished cooking.
- Preheat the grill for no more than 10–15 minutes (except when using for the first time). Do not preheat for longer than recommended.
- Do not use a higher setting than recommended
SMOKING
Before use
- Brush all of the inside surfaces, including the charcoal rack and grill rack, with vegetable oil.
- We recommend lighting the charcoal for the smoker with a chimney starter. If a chimney starter is not used – build up a small pile of charcoal on the charcoal rack, without placing charcoal against the walls of the smoker.
- Close the lid. Check that all the valves are 1/4 open. Allow the charcoal to burn for at least two hours, the longer the better. Increase the temperature after 2 hours by opening the valves half way, add more charcoal and allow the charcoal to burn out completely. The smoker is now ready to use.
NOTE:
Rust can form on the inside of the smoker. Protect it by applying a thin layer
of vegetable oil on all the inside surfaces.
Lighting and using
NOTE:
Always grill with charcoal, never with wood. Wood fires are difficult to
manage and can ruin the food with tar, soot and ash.
- Add lit, red hot charcoal to the smoker tray. We recommend 1.2 kg of charcoal; add more if necessary. Remember to use grill gloves.
- Check the temperature with a good thermometer.
NOTE:
The temperature in the smoker box can be 10 – 15°C higher than at the flue
Smoking and slow cooking
- Lift out the grill rack from the smoker.
- Build up a pile of red hot charcoal over the charcoal rack in the smoker.
- Extra smoky flavours can be obtained with smoke chips of hickory, mesquite, pecan, and oak etc. Do not use pieces of wood when cooking the food, this can diminish the quality of the food being cooked.
- Do not dampen the smoke chips Chips absorb only 5% of their weight in water, and the water only cools down the charcoal when you add the chips. This can result in an uneven grill temperature.
- Keep the lid closed when the embers have burned. The temperature and amount of smoke can be controlled with the valves on the smoker and the valves over the grill chamber. The smoke is contained in the smoker and grill chamber, which reduces the risk of burning the food and also gives a more smoky flavour.
- Place the food in the grill chamber and check the temperature
- The temperature in the grill chamber must not exceed 230°C. When putting the food in the grill chamber it is important to check the temperature. The cooking and smoking take place with indirect heat.
Checking the temperature and smoke
- Start by checking the temperature at the air intake. This is the valve at the bottom of the smoker. Leave the chimney open. The air intake valve controls the supply of oxygen to the charcoal and this valve has the most effect on the cooking temperature. The chimney controls (to a certain extent) the amount of smoke in the grill chamber and the difference in temperature between the different sides.
- Start by keeping the air intake valve completely open until the temperature of the grill chamber has gone up. Then close the valve to half open or more until the temperature is between 105 and 120°C. Keep the temperature on the high side, ideally. Never completely close the air intake valve because this can stifle the embers release tar. Do not touch the chimney valve until the grill chamber has had a stable temperature for at least 30 minutes.
- Be careful with the amount of smoke. It is easy to ruin the food with too much of a smoky taste.
- When adding smoke chips: Add about 115 grams each time in 3 to 4 batches every 30 minutes. Start when the grill chamber has reached over 95°C. The smoke chips are added in the smoker chamber.
- The temperature of the air affects the cooking temperature. Rain (and snow) can have a strong effect of the cooking temperature. It is important to check the temperature so that it stays within the recommended interval.

Cooking tips and smoke check
Grill chamber
- The chimney controls the amount of smoke in the grill chamber.
- The air intake valve regulates the temperature in the grill chamber.
- Smoke and heat go from the embers via grill chamber and out through the chimney
- Place the food in the grill chamber at least 15 cm away from the opening to the smoker. The cooking and smoking take place with indirect heat. There is no need to worry about dripping grease that burns and ruins the food.
- Keep the lid closed. The delicate heat and oxygen balance of the charcoal will be interfered with if any of the panels to the smoker box or grill chamber are opened. Open the panels as little as possible to avoid diminishing the heat and prolonging the cooking time.
- Turn the meat round. If you have meat on the left and right sides in the grill chamber, turn the meat round half way through the cooking.
- If the food gets over smoked, or burned before the cooking is ready, place grill foil over it. Remember to use grill gloves.
- Utensils can be warmed in the smoke chamber while the food is cooking. Remember to use grill gloves.
- The food can be flavoured with oil or marinade before grilling. Do not use too much marinade because smoke and aroma from the smoke chips affect the taste of the ingredients.
- Remove all the ash after use. Make sure that the ash has cooled before removing.
MAINTENANCE
CLEANING
- The recommended cleaning interval is 90 days and the product must be completely cleaned at least once every year for best functionality and lifespan.
- Follow the cleaning instructions for best results.
- Light the burners and allow to burn for 15–20 minutes.
- Grease burns off the grill rack and lava stones, etc. Allow the product to cool before the next step.
- Clean the grill rack regularly by soaking and washing in hot water and washing-up liquid.
- Clean the grill casing inside with hot water and washing-up liquid. Remove spots with a wire brush, Brillo pad, kitchen sponge, or equivalent.
- Regularly check that the burners are free from insects, dirt, etc., that can block the flow of gas. Clean the burner tubes thoroughly, preferably with a pipe cleaner to make sure they are not blocked.
STORAGE
- Store gas cylinders outdoors in a well ventilated area, disconnected from the product when not in use. Connect/ disconnect the gas cylinder outdoors in a well-ventilated area, at a safe distance from sources of heat.
- If the product has not been used for some time, check all the gas hoses for damage, leakage and/or incorrect connection, and check that the burners are not dirty or blocked. Always follow the cleaning instructions for best functionality and safe use.
- If the product is stored outdoors, check that the parts under the front panel are free from dirt and insects etc., that can affect the flow of gas.
- Store the product in a dry and cool place. If a cover is used, make sure that the product and the cover are dry before putting into storage.
- Apply a little cooking oil to the chrome-plated parts. Cover the burners with aluminium foil to prevent insects and other debris accumulating in the burner ports.
REFITTING THE BURNER
When refitting the burner, be careful to check that the venture tubes of the
burner fit over the valve outlets. It is extremely important to center the
burner on the orifice properly to prevent a fire hazard or explosion. When
properly installed, all screws holding the burner in place will be able to
screw in without force. If the refit of the burner fails, please contact
service center, and do not repair yourself. After successfully refitting all
burners, the leakage test should be performed. Please see “ LEAKAGE TEST
SECTION”. After leakage test, the light test should be also performed. Please
see “LIGHTING SECTION”. Please note the burner lighting test should be done
burner by burner.
