DESCRIPTION OF THE MACHINE – OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

These are machines that were originally used in Crete, but today their use has spread all over Greece. They can replace the traditional “temples”(a tool resembling a rake) where the oil is collected by racking There are several types. All of them have as a basic component a pole (some have two or three for simultaneous use by several workers) at the end of which there is a rotating cylinder with plastic ‘whips or other similar mechanism. The operator holding the pole brings the whip mechanism to the crown of the fruit and, with continuous movement, causes the branches to vibrate gently, resulting in the fruit falling to the ground onto the nets. Thus, these are olive harvesters that extract the fruit with a rotary motion. These olive harvesters also differ in their motors and in the transmission system of the rotating cylinder. The transmission is both mechanical and electrical. The price of the machine is usually proportional to its technical characteristics. More expensive machines usually have adjustment and safety systems that can render them, with proper handling, more efficient and less damaging to the trees. Some types of olive harvesters can be connected to other machinery and accessories so that they can be used tor other operations (pruning8, spraying, etc.) The rotating rods are plastic and smooth and thus do not injure the bark. They are also soft and do not break shoots or cause damage to eyes. The automatic stop system protects against tangling. Adjustable speeds protect against leaf fall. The head, made of Ta (Tantalum), has a very high yield, causes negligible damage to the folage of the tree and is suitable for all varieties of olive trees.

MOTOR FAILURES AND MAINTENANCE

Always keep the ventilation holes on the motor clean and unobstructed. When the motor stops running, the possible causes are: The carbon brushes. The carbon brushes Haye a lifetime of about 150-200 hours of operation of the Oil Harvesting Machine, then they must be replaced to ensure the proper operation of the machine. When they are worn out the motor ill not Work or will under- perform and must be replaced. After pulling out the brush, connect another one, insulate the joint with thermal insulating material and place the brush along with its cable back in the hole. The carbon brushes are changed in pairs. Short circuit. some wires have been cut and are shorting out the motor, It is recommended to keep the cable coming out of the motor fixed firmly at a length of 20 cm by tying it up to avoid possible damage to the motor when the cable is shorted-circuited. Overheating. If the motor is much hotter than usual, it is overheating and the fault probably lies in the motor’s reducer or fan. In this case the machine must be repaired by a qualified technician or at the manufacturer’s factory.

MALFUNCTIONS TROUBLESHOOTING

Stop rotation as soon as resistance is encountered. In this case, clean the head gear from dust and other impurities. After unscrewing the rods, remove one bearing from the head shaft and remove the gear. After removing the gear from the axle, clean it with gasoline, rinse it thoroughly and then lubricate it The same procedure applies to the bearing and axle. Assemble in reverse.
